The Joint China and Russia Conference on Computational Mathematics was held from November 1 to November 3, 2010 at Hong Kong Baptist University. The purpose of the conference is to discuss recent progress in the field of computational mathematics, to promote scholarship and friendship between China and Russia. This is the first time in Hong Kong to organize a joint conference on computational mathematics between China and Russia. Many top scientists in the area of computational mathematics from China and Russia, including academicians and members of Academy of Sciencesl attended the conference and presented their research results.

Some properties of the Fe-based P/M composites sintered and reinforced by infiltration with Cu-Sn alloy were *** is shown that the hardness of the sintered material is 2.5 times lower,tensile strength is 1.7 times lower and the wear resistance is 2.5-3.3 times lower in comparison with those of the infiltrated *** presence of pores on the friction surface of the sintered material affects the features of the wear *** to the specific morphology of copper in the infiltrated material,the phenomenon of selective mass transfer is observed and worn surfaces have a spongy-capillary texture.

This study explores the structures of the correlations between infrared(IR)brightness temperatures(BTs)from the three water vapor channels of the Advanced Baseline Imager(ABI)onboard the GOeS-16 satellite and the atmospheric ***-based data assimilation techniques such as the ensemble Kalman filter(enKF)rely on correlations to propagate innovations of BTs to increments of model state *** the three water vapor channels are sensitive to moisture in different layers of the troposphere,the heights of the strongest correlations between these channels and moisture in clear-sky regions are closely related to the peaks of their respective weighting *** cloudy regions,the strongest correlations appear at the cloud tops of deep clouds,and ice hydrometeors generally have stronger correlations with BT than liquid *** magnitudes of the correlations decrease from the peak value in a column with both vertical and horizontal *** how the correlations decrease depend on both the cloud scenes and the cloud structures,as well as the model *** correlations between BTs and moisture,as well as hydrometeors,in fully cloudy regions decrease to almost 0 at about 30 *** horizontal correlations with atmospheric state variables in clear-sky regions are broader,maintaining non-zero values out to~100 *** results in this study provide information on the proper choice of cut-off radii in horizontal and vertical localization schemes for the assimilation of *** also provide insights on the most efficient and effective use of the different water vapor channels.

We report an above-band-gap radiative transition in the photoluminescence spectra of single crystalline Ge in the temperature range of 20-296 K. The temperature-independence of the peak position at -0.74 eV is remarkably different from the behavior of direct and indirect gap transitions in Ge. This transition is observed in n-type, p-type, and intrinsic single crystal Ge alike, and its intensity decreases with the increase of temperature with a small activation energy of 56 meV. Some aspects of the transition are analogous to III-V semiconductors with dilute nitrogen doping, which suggests that the origin could be related to an isoelectronic defect.

To better understand how model resolution affects the formation of Arctic boundary layer clouds,we investigated the influence of grid spacing on simulating cloud streets that occurred near Utqiaġvik(formerly Barrow),Alaska,on 2 May 2013 and were observed by MODIS(the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer).The Weather Research and Forecasting model was used to simulate the clouds using nested domains with increasingly fine resolution ranging from a horizontal grid spacing of 27 km in the boundary-layer-parameterized mesoscale domain to a grid spacing of 0.111 km in the large-eddy-permitting *** investigated the model-simulated mesoscale environment,horizontal and vertical cloud structures,boundary layer stability,and cloud properties,all of which were subsequently used to interpret the observed roll-cloud *** model resolution led to a transition from a more buoyant boundary layer to a more shear-driven turbulent boundary *** clouds were stratiform-like in the mesoscale domain,but as the model resolution increased,roll-like structures,aligned along the wind field,appeared with ever smaller wavelengths.A stronger vertical water vapor gradient occurred above the cloud layers with decreasing grid *** fixed model grid spacing at 0.333 km,changing the model configuration from a boundary layer parameterization to a large-eddy-permitting scheme produced a more shear-driven and less unstable environment,a stronger vertical water vapor gradient below the cloud layers,and the wavelengths of the rolls decreased *** this study,only the large-eddy-permitting simulation with gird spacing of 0.111 km was sufficient to model the observed roll clouds.

In this paper I will re-contextualize Lu Xun＇s early thought, as evidenced in his lengthy classical-style essays, which are concerned with issues in literature, philosophy, politics and aesthetics during an era when China was facing profound cultural changes. Part of their significance lies in the way they provide us with an unabashed glimpse at what Lu Xun set out to accomplish, early on, in his new-found literary career. Although they are mainly the product of his final Lehrjahre （years of study） in Japan, the fact that he chose to include the two longest of them in the very first pages of his important 1926 anthology Fen （The grave） indicates that he considered the views expressed therein neither too immature nor too pass- to reprint at the height of his career as a creative writer. In fact, he wrote that one of his reasons for doing so was that a number of the literary figures and issues treated in these essays had, ironically, taken on an increased relevance for China ＂since the founding of the Republic.＂ The central concern of all the essays turns on questions of cultural crisis and transition. What I propose to do in this paper is to re-examine the essays within the context in which they first appeared, i.e., the expatriate Chinese journal Henan, then published in Tokyo as an unofficial organ of the anti-Manchu Tongmenghui （Revolutionary Alliance）.
