Background:Proprioceptive accuracy refers to the individual’s ability to perceive proprioceptive information,that is,the information referring to the actual state of the locomotor system,which originates from mechanoreceptors located in various parts of the locomotor system and from tactile receptors located in the *** accuracy appears to be an important aspect in the evaluation of sensorimotor functioning;however,no widely accepted standard assessment *** this systematic review,our goal was to identify and categorize different methods that are used to assess different aspects of proprioceptive ***:A literature search was conducted in 5 different databases(PubMed,SPORTDiscus,PsycINFO,ScienceDirect,and SpringerLink).Results:Overall,1139 scientific papers reporting 1346 methods were included in this *** methods assess 8 different aspects of proprioception:(a)the perception of joint position,(b)movement and movement extent,(c)trajectory,(d)velocity,and the sense of(e)force,(f)muscle tension,(g)weight,and(h)*** apply various paradigms of psychophysics(i.e.,the method of adjustment,constant stimuli,and limits).Conclusion:As the outcomes of different tasks with respect to various body parts show no associations(i.e.,proprioceptive accuracy is characterized by site-specificity and method-specificity),the appropriate measurement method for the task needs to be chosen based on theoretical considerations and/or ecological validity.

A comperative clinical study of mucotomy and KTP laser treatment of the inferior turbinate in allergic and non-allergic subjects

Mucotomy is one of the most frequently applied surgical techniques for the management of inferior turbinate hyperplasia. Mucotomy guarantees patent airway, however, it might lead to the emergence of sicca syndrome. In contrast, KTP (potassium titanyl phosphate) laser treatment spares the medial part of the inferior turbinate mucosa, contributing to maintenance of physiological nasal function. A retrospective comparative clinical study was performed to reveal the advantages and side-effects of both surgical methods in medium- and long-term in allergic rhinitis and non-allergic patients. Furthermore, we wished to determine the exact indications of the up-to-date laser treatment. Ninety-one of the 117 patients who underwent bilateral turbinate surgery during an 8-year period (2000-2007) responded to our questionnaire focusing on subjective postoperative changes. Patients were separated into 6 groups, based on the type of operation they underwent, the length of the follow-up and whether they suffered from allergies. the major complaint, nasal obstruction, improved in all 6 groups, which reached significance (p ? 0.05) in 4 groups. the most pronounced improvement was observed in the group of non-allergic patients with medium-term follow-up who underwent mucotomy. Nevertheless, a serious side- effect: crusting also increased significantly (p ? 0.05) in the latter group, while it was absent in allergic patients with medium-term follow-up, who underwent mucotomy. these results lead us to propose the following protocol for the treatment of inferior turbinate hyperplasia: 1) after unsuccessful conservative treatment, laser treatment is suggested for non-allergic patients;2) following unsuccessful conservative and even repeated laser treatment in the allergic group, mucotomy or turbinoplasty should be attempted.

Proteoglycans are a group of molecules that contain at least one glycosaminoglycan chain,such as a heparan,dermatan,chondroitin,or keratan sulfate,covalently attached to the protein *** molecules arecategorized based on their structure,localization,and function,and can be found in the extracellular matrix,on the cell surface,and in the ***-surface heparan sulfate proteoglycans,such as syndecans,are the primary type present in healthy liver ***,deterioration of the liver results in overproduction of other proteoglycan *** purpose of this article is to provide a current summary of the most relevant data implicating proteoglycans in the development and progression of human and experimental liver cancer.A review of our work and other studies in the literature indicate that deterioration of liver function is accompanied by an increase in the amount of chondroitin sulfate *** alteration of proteoglycan composition interferes with the physiologic function of the liver on several *** article details and discusses the roles of syndecan-1,glypicans,agrin,perlecan,collagen XVIII/endostatin,endocan,serglycin,decorin,biglycan,asporin,fibromodulin,lumican,and versican in liver ***,glypicans,agrin,and versican play significant roles in the development of liver ***,the presence of decorin could potentially provide protective effects.

Ocular biomechanical measurements on post- keratoplasty corneas using a Scheimpflug-based noncontact device

AIM： To analyse ocular biomechanical properties, central corneal thickness （CCT） and intraocular pressure （lOP） in post-keratoplasty eyes, as compared to normal subjects, with a new Scheimpflug-based technology. Moreover, biomechanical data were correlated with the size and age of the donor and recipient corneas. MEthODS： Measurements were conducted on 46 eyes of 46 healthy patients without any corneal pathology （age： 53.83 ±20.8y） and 30 eyes of 28 patients after penetrating keratoplasty （age： 49.43 ±21.34y）. Ten biomechanical parameters, the CCT and lOP were recorded by corneal visualization Scheimpflug technology （CorVis ST） using high-speed Scheimpflug imaging. Keratometry values were also recorded using Pentacam HR system. Scheimpflug measurements were performed after 43.41± 40.17mo （range： 11-128mo） after the keratoplasty and after 7.64±2.34mo （range： 5-14mo） of suture removal. RESULTS： Regarding the device-specific biomechanical parameters, the highest concavity time and radius values showed a significant decrease between these two groups （P=0.01 and P 〈0.001）. None of other biomechanical parameters disclosed a significant difference. the CCT showed a significant difference between post keratoplasty eyes as compared to normal subjects （P= 0.003） using the CorVis ST device. the lOP was within the normal range in both groups （P=0.84）. there were no significant relationships between the keratometric data, the size of the donor and recipient, age of the donor and recipient and biomechanical properties obtained by CorVis ST. CONCLUSION： the ocular biomechanics remain stable after penetrating keratoplasty according to the CorVis ST measurements. Only two from the ten device-specific parameters have importance in the follow-up period after penetrating keratoplasty.

Methionine(Met)is an essential and first limiting amino acid in the poultry diet that plays a significant role in chicken embryonic development and *** present study examined the effect of in ovo injection of DL-Met and L-Met sources and genotypes on chicken embryonic-intestinal development and *** eggs of the two genotypes,TETRA-SL layer hybrid(TSL)—commercial layer hybrid and Hungarian Partridge colored hen breed(HPC)—a native genotype,were randomly distributed into four treatments for each *** treatment groups include the following:1)control non-injected eggs(NoIn);2)saline-injected(SaIn);3)DL-Met injected(DLM);and 4)L-Met injected(LM).the in ovo injection was carried out on 17.5 d of embryonic development;after hatching,eight chicks per group were sacrificed,and the jejunum was extracted for *** results showed that both DLM and LM groups had enhanced intestinal development as evidenced by increased villus width,villus height,and villus area(Pthe *** DLM group had significantly reduced crypt depth,glutathione(GSH)content,glutathione S-transferase 3 alpha(GST3),occludin(OCLN)gene expression and increased villus height to crypt depth ratio in the TSL genotype than the LM group(Pthe HPC genotype has overexpressed insulin-like growth factor 1(IGF1)gene,tricellulin(MD2),occludin(OCLN),superoxide dismutase 1(SOD1),and GST3 genes than the TSL genotype(Pthese findings showed that in ovo injection of Met enhanced intestinal development,and function,with genotypes responding differently under normal *** also influenced the expression of intestinal antioxidants,tight junction,and growth-related genes.
