In this paper, neutronic analysis in a laser fusion inertial confinement fusion fission energy （LIFE） engine fuelled plutonium and minor actinides using a MCNP codes was investigated. LIFE engine fuel zone contained 10 vol% TRISO particles and 90 vol% natural lithium coolant mixture. TRISO fuel compositions have Mod①： reactor grade plutonium （RG-Pu）, Mod②： weapon grade plutonium （WG-Pu） and Mod③： minor actinides （MAs）. Tritium breeding ratios （TBR） were computed as 1.52, 1.62 and 1.46 for Mod（D, Mod② and Mod③, respectively. The operation period was computed as ~21 years when the reference TBR 〉 1.05 for a self- sustained reactor for all investigated cases. Blanket energy multiplication values （M） were calculated as 4.18, 4.95 and 3.75 for Mod①, Mod② and Mod③, respectively. The bumup （BU） values were obtained as ~1230, ~1550 and ~1060 GWd tM-1, respectively. As a result, the higher BU were provided with using TRISO particles for all cases in LIFE engine.

Einstein＇s field equations with C and A both varying with time are considered in the presence of a perfect fluid for five-dimensional cosmological model in a way which conserves the energy momentum tensor of the matter content. Several sets of explicit solutions in the five-dimensional Kaluza-Klein type cosmological models with variable G and A are obtained. The diminishment of extra dimension with the evolution of the universe for the five-dimensional model is exhibited. The physical properties of the models are examined.

An autapse is an unusual synapse that occurs between the axon and the soma of the same neuron. Mathematically, it can be described as a self-delayed feedback loop that is defined by a specific time-delay and the so-called autaptic coupling strength. Recently, the role and function of autapses within the nervous system has been studied extensively. Here, we extend the scope of theoretical research by investigating the effects of an autapse on the transmission of a weak localized pacemaker activity in a scale-free neuronal network. Our results reveal that by mediating the spiking activity of the pacemaker neuron, an autapse increases the propagation of its rhythm across the whole network, if only the autaptic time delay and the autaptic coupling strength are properly adjusted. We show that the autapse-induced enhancement of the transmission of pacemaker activity occurs only when the autaptic time delay is close to an integer multiple of the intrinsic oscillation time of the neurons that form the network. In particular, we demonstrate the emergence of multiple resonances involving the weak signal, the intrinsic oscillations, and the time scale that is dictated by the autapse. Interestingly, we also show that the enhancement of the pacemaker rhythm across the network is the strongest if the degree of the pacemaker neuron is lowest. This is because the dissipation of the localized rhythm is contained to the few directly linked neurons, and only afterwards, through the secondary neurons, it propagates further. If the pacemaker neuron has a high degree, then its rhythm is simply too weak to excite all the neighboring neurons, and propagation therefore fails.

Using the Mφ11er energy-momentum definition in general relativity （GR） we calculate the total energy-momentum distribution associated with （n 4- 2）-dimensional homogeneous and isotropic model of the universe. It is found that total energy of M^ller is vanishing in （n 4- 2） dimensions everywhere but n-momentum components of Mφ11er in （n 4- 2） dimensions are different from zero. Also, we evaluate the static Einstein Universe, FRW universe and de Sitter universe in four dimensions by using （n 4- 2）-type metric, then calculate the Mφ11er energy-momentum distribution of these spacetimes. However, our results are consistent with the results of Banerjee and Sen, Xulu, Radinschi, Vargas, Cooperstock-Israelit, A ygiin et al., Rosen, and Johri et al. in four dimensions.

This study was conducted to clarify the toxic effects of sertraline （SRT） on the reproductive system of male rats and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms. Rats were treated orally with SRT at doses of 5, 10, and 20 mg kg-1 for 28 consecutive days. At the end of the treatment period, sperm concentration, sperm motility, and sperm morphology were investigated by computer-assisted sperm analysis system whereas sperm DNA damage was detected by comet assay. The oxidative status of the testes was investigated, and a histopathological examination was conducted. Serum testosterone, follicle-stimulating hormone （FSH）, and luteinizing hormone （LH） levels were measured to determine the effects of SRT on the spermatogenesis process. One-way ANOVA, post-hoc Dunnett＇s T3 test for the sperm comet assay, and post-hoc Tukey＇s test for the others were performed for statistical analysis. The results showed that SRT caused an increase in sperm DNA damage and induced histopathological lesions in all groups treated with SRT. There was abnormal sperm morphology and increased malondialdehyde （MDA） in the 10 mg kg-1 treatment group. More dramatic changes were observed in the 20 mg kg-1 treatment group. Decreased sperm count was accompanied by a significant increase in abnormal sperm morphology, DNA damage, and degeneration in cellular-tubular structures. Serum LH and testosterone levels were elevated in the 20 mg kg-~ treatment group. Decreased glutathione （GSH） and increased MDA were signs of enhanced oxidative stress （OS）. In conclusion, SRT induced testicular toxicity in a dose-dependent manner and OS is suggested as a crucial mechanism.

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the demographical and clinical features of patients with cerebral palsy (CP) attending to our outpatient or inpatient clinics. Materials and Methods: Children admitted to Inonu University Faculty of Medicine Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation outpatient or inpatient clinics, Malatya, Turkey with the diagnosis of CP during the study period were included in the study. Age, sex, etiological factors, clinical classifications, and epidemiological characteristics such as socio-economic status as well as the problems associated with CP were analyzed in all patients. Results: Of the total of 130 patients with mean ages 51.05 ± 36.06 months, 51 were girls and 79 were boys. The most common etiologic risk factors were bleeding and presence of threatened miscarriage in prenatal period;asphyxia, low birth weight and prematurity in perinatal period;and neonatal convulsions and hyperbilirubinemia in the postnatal period. Consanguineous marriage was present in 24.6% of families. In clinical classification it was seen that 45 subjects were spastic quadriplegic (34.6%), 41 were spastic diplegic (31.5%), 15 were dyskynetic (11.5%), 14 were spastic hemiplegic (10.8%), 10 were mixed type (7.7%) and 5 were hypotonic/ataxic (3.8%). Conclusion: Prenatal risk factors constitute the foremost risk factors in CP etiology. CP incidence can be lowered by close follow up of the newborns who has been considered as high risk newborns due to the presence of risk factors during pregnancies or deliveries, and by increasing the number of neonatal intensive care units. Besides, it is important to raise public awareness about consanguinity marriages in our country.

Background Vitamin D has been found to have a role in the function of the immune system. There have been a lot of studies investigating a relation between vitamin D and disease activity in ankylosing spondylitis （AS）. However, there have not been any studies arranging AS in groups according to vitamin D levels and determining any differences among these patients in terms of disease activity, functional status, quality of life, and other clinical parameters. The aim of this study is to compare 25-hydroxy-vitamin D3 （25（OH）D3） levels in AS patients with those in normal healthy subjects and to determine the relationship between 25（OH）D3 levels and AS disease activity, functional status, and quality of life. Methods Ninety-nine consecutive patients and 42 healthy volunteers were included in this study. After a comparison between the patient group and the control group, the patient group was divided into normal, insufficient and deficient subgroups according to the plasma 25（OH）D3 levels for another comparison. Results The differences in the 25（OH）D3 level between the patient and the control groups were statistically insignificant. The number of AS patients whose 25（OH）D3 levels were classified as normal, insufficient, and deficient were 34, 29, and 36, respectively. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate （ESR）, C-reactive protein （CRP）, and Bath AS Disease Activity Index （BASDAI） scores were higher in the low （including insufficient and deficient） 25（OH）D3 level subgroups （P 〈0.05）. The Bath AS Functional Index （BASFI） and AS Quality of Life （ASQoL） scores were significantly different between the normal and the deficient subgroups （P 〈0.05）. Pain, BASDAI, ESR, and CRP were inversely correlated to the 25（OH）D3 levels （P 〈0.05）. Conclusions The plasma 25（OH）D3 levels may decrease in AS patients and this may negatively affect disease activity, functional status and quality of life.

Resveratrol Attenuates Benzo(a)pyrene-Induced Dysfunctions,Oxidative Stress and Apoptosis in Pancreatic Beta-Cells

Background: Diabetes mellitus is one of the major health problems for people all over the world today. According to international diabetes federation reports, diabetes affects 382 million people worldwide. Environmental pollutants have deleterious effects on glucose metabolism and cause insulin resistance. We aimed to investigate the effects of the environmental pollutants benzo(a)pyrene, and the therapeutic potential of resveratrol. Methods: 20 μM of benzo(a)pyrene was administered after 48 h of resveratrol (80 μM) application for 24 h in INS-1 (832/13) insulinoma cells. The cells were treated with 20 μM benzo(a)pyrene for 24 hours after 48 hours initial preconditions with 10 μM resveratrol. Oxidative stress status, insulin secretion and apoptosis were analyzed by molecular techniques. Results: Though resveratrol increased the antioxidant status which was decreased by benzo(a)pyrene, interestingly, it increased the oxidative status. Resveratrol increased benzo(a)pyrene-depleted reduced glutathione levels to the control level. The mRNA expression levels of beta-cell functions associated with genes insulin-1, insulin-2 and sirtuin-1 were upregulated by resveratrol. Resveratrol treatment elevated the insulin concentration of culture medium, and the mRNA expression of forkhead box protein-1 gene. Resveratrol upregulated benzo(a)pyrene-downregulated p53 gene expression. On the other hand, benzo(a)pyrene-downregulated mRNA expression of B-cell lymphoma-2 was induced by resveratrol treatment. Conclusion: The data showed that resveratrol could reverse the oxidative alterations, functional impairments and the carcinogenetic effects of benzo(a)pyrene in pancreas beta-cells.

AIM:Gastric outlet obstruction caused by duodenal impaction of a large gallstone migrated through a cholecystoduodenal fistula has been referred as Bouveret's *** lithotomy is the first-step treatment, however,surgery is indicated in case of failure or complication during this procedure. METHODS:We report herein an 84-year-old woman presenting with features of gastric outlet obstruction due to impacted *** underwent an endoscopic retrieval which was unsuccessful and was further complicated by distal gallstone *** examination was irrelevant. RESULTS:Endoscopy revealed multiple erosions around the cardia,a large stone in the second part of the duodenum causing complete obstruction,and wide ulceration in the duodenal wall where the stone was *** attempts of endoscopic extraction by using foreign body forceps failed and surgical intervention was *** ultrasound evidenced pneumobilia whilst computerized tomography showed a large stone,5 cm×4 cm×3 cm,logging at the proximal jejunum and another one,2.5 cm×2 cm×2 cm, in the duodenal bulb causing a closed-loop *** underwent laparotomy and the jejunal stone was removed by *** stone reported as located in the duodenum preoperatively was found to be present in the gallbladder by intraoperative ***, cholecystoduodenal fistula was broken down,the stone was retrieved and cholecystectomy with duodenal repair was carried *** was discharged after an uneventful postoperative ***: As the simplest and the least morbid procedure, endoscopic stone retrieval should be attempted in the treatment of patients with Bouveret's *** it fails, surgical lithotomy consisting of simple enterotomy may solve the problem.
