Dew and fog play major roles in providing the atmospheric moisture for plants and arthropods living in arid regions all over the world. Studies are needed to discriminate between dew and fog. A radiation system was developed for measuring the incoming and outgoing solar （shortwave） radiation using two CM21 Kipp ＆ Zonen pyranometers （one inverted）, and the incoming （atmospheric） and outgoing （terrestrial） longwave radiation using two CG1 pyrgeometers in Logan （41047＇ N, 111~51＇ W, 1,460 m above mean sea level）, Utah, USA, continuously since 1995. These instruments are ventilated with heated air to prevent precipitation of dew and frost on the sensors, which otherwise would disturb the measurements. Based upon these measurements and an algorithm, the cloud base height, the cloud base temperature and percent of cloudiness can be parameterized at local scale. A cloud base height around zero would indicate fog at the local scale. In 1999, Bowen ratio system was added to measure the evapotranspiration, dew and frost continuously throughout the year at the same location close to the radiation system. Combining these two systems （radiation and Bowen ratio） has yielded a reasonable approach to differentiate between the atmospheric moistures collected by dew and fog.

Self-propagating high-temperature synthesis(SHS)was used to fabricate a Fe(Cr)–Al2O3 *** composite was fabricated by the reactions between the powders of Fe,Fe2O3,Cr2O3,and *** effect of blending ratio and mechanical activation of the initial powders and the precursor compressing pressure on the microstructure of the final product was studied by optical microscopy,scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscopy,and X-ray *** significance of the effect of each of the aforementioned parameters on the quality of the composite(assessed by measuring the compressive strength and wear resistance)was determined using a full-factorial design of experiments *** results showed that the best molar powder ratio that produced the most homogeneous product through a sustainable SHS reaction was Fe:Fe2O3:Cr2O3:Al=10:1:1:4.A lower Fe content caused the Fe(Cr)phase to melt and separate from the rest of the materials.

The objective of this work was to fabricate a rigid,resorbable and osteoconductive scaffold by mimicking the hierarchical structure of the cortical *** peptide-functionalize nanofiber microsheets were generated with calcium phosphate(CaP)content similar to that of the natural cortical ***,the CaP-rich fibrous microsheets were wrapped around a microneedle to form a laminated microtube mimicking the structure of an ***,a set of the osteon-mimetic microtubes were assembled around a solid rod and the assembly was annealed to fuse the microtubes and form a ***,an array of circular microholes were drilled on the outer surface of the shell to generate a cortical bone-like scaffold with an interconnected network of Haversian-and Volkmann-like *** CaP content,porosity and density of the bone-mimetic microsheets were 240 wt%,8%and 1.9 g/ml,respectively,which were close to that of natural cortical *** interconnected network of microcanals in the fused microtubes increased permeability of a model protein in the *** cortical scaffold induced osteogenesis and vasculogenesis in the absence of bone morphogenetic proteins upon seeding with human mesenchymal stem cells and endothelial colony-forming *** localized and timed-release of morphogenetic factors significantly increased the extent of osteogenic and vasculogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells and endothelial colony-forming cells in the cortical *** cortical bonemimetic nature of the cellular construct provided balanced rigidity,resorption rate,osteoconductivity and nutrient diffusivity to support vascularization and osteogenesis.

Octavinyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) was polymerized on the surface of Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) and then the NPs were functionalized with carboxylic acid groups using thiol-ene click reactions with thioglycolic *** as-prepared Fe3O4@POSS-COOH magnetic hybrid NPs had mesoporous structures with an average particle diameter of 15 nm and a relatively high specific surface area of 447 m^2· g^-*** results showed that 4 mg of Fe3O4@POSS-COOH NPs efficiently adsorbed and removed methylene blue from water at 5 *** is due to the presence of both carboxylic acid and pendant vinyl groups on the Fe3O4@POSS-COOH *** NPs could be easily withdrawn from water within a few seconds under moderate magnetic field and showed high stability in acid and alkaline aqueous mediums.

Atmospheric pollution is an important concern in urban *** impact of urban pollution on the physiological,biochemical and anatomical properties of leaves of oriental plane(Platanus orientalis L.)was *** leaves were collected from an urban site(Tehran,Iran)and a non-urban forest park(Chitgar Forest Park).Anatomical(stomata,parenchyma,and cuticle)and physiological(chlorophyll content,enzyme activities)properties were *** concentrations of Cd(cadmium),Pb(lead),Ni(nickel),and Cr(chromium)in leaves were significantly higher and Zn(zinc)lower at the urban site relative to the forest *** a,total chlorophyll,and carotenoid content in leaves of the urban site were significantly less than those of the forest park,but there was no significant difference in chlorophyll *** addition,the activities of superoxide dismutase,catalase,ascorbate peroxidase,and guaiacol peroxidase in urban leaves were significantly higher than in the leaves of the forest *** the urban area,leaves experienced a significant decrease in leaf surface area,stomata density,stomata pore area,epidermis,and spongy mesophyll thickness,but a significant increase in cuticle and palisade thicknesses relative to forest park *** increase in enzyme activities may indicate that the trees are attempting to cope with increased reactive oxygen species(ROS)because of pollution-induced *** study suggests that oriental plane trees alter their physiological and anatomical properties when living in a polluted urban environment.

Prediction of cavity growth rate during underground coal gasification using multiple regression analysis

During underground coal gasification （UCG）, whereby coal is converted to syngas in situ, a cavity is formed in the coal seam. The cavity growth rate （CGR） or the moving rate of the gasification face is affected by controllable （operation pressure, gasification time, geometry of UCG panel） and uncontrollable （coal seam properties） factors. The CGR is usually predicted by mathematical models and laboratory experiments, which are time consuming, cumbersome and expensive. In this paper, a new simple model for CGR is developed using non-linear regression analysis, based on data from 1 l UCG field trials. The empirical model compares satisfactorily with Perkins model and can reliably predict CGR.

In past decades, there has been a growing interest in the discussion and study of using underwater acoustic channel as the physical layer for communication systems, ranging from point-to-point communications to underwater multicarrier modulation networks. A series of review papers were already available to provide a history of the development of the field until the end of the last decade. In this paper, we attempt to provide an overview of the key developments, both theoretical and applied, in the particular topics regarding multicarrier communication for underwater acoustic communication such as the channel and Doppler shift estimation, video and image transmission throw multicarrier techniques, etc. This paper also includes acoustic propagation properties in seawater and underwater acoustic channel representation.

Offshore Nile Delta gas reservoirs are dominated by slope-channel systems of Plio-Pleistocene age. High-quality, three-dimensional seismic imaging has significantly helped in defining the geomorphology and architectures of these channels. Integrating seismic, logs and core data from four wells resulted in understanding of different stages of channel development and reservoir quality. The studied reservoirs that are largely controlled by episodes of transgressive-regressive events resulted in deposition of fine grained sediment and shale. Sienna channel complex consists of unconfined channel system with clearly defined development stages. The stages include amalgamated or stacked channels followed by channel abandonment phases and local flooding events. The depositional pattern continued through the Late Pliocene-Pleistocene. SimSat-P1 and SimSat-P2 reservoirs are characterized by isolated sand bodies, most probably relics of fan depositional setting. The depositional scenario that is largely controlled by successive transgression and flooding events resulted in deposition of interbedded, sheet-like, fine grained sediment and shale.

本研究调查并探讨了也门的小额信贷机构的公司治理是如何影响他们的绩效的。同时本研究也希望指出在小额信贷机构中,公司治理与公司绩效的关系。事实上,也门小额信贷机构的运营正在面临许多挑战和障碍,比如在这些公司中,管理层不能很好地承担起他们的责任。在发展中国家,小额信贷被认为是缓解贫困和减少失业的重要工具之一。但是小额信贷在运营的过程中有许多挑战,其中一个挑战就是公司缺乏有效的治理,特别是董事会缺乏有效的治理。事实上,高效的公司治理是小额信贷机构每年实现稳定增长的必要条件。本文利用针对也门小额信贷机构人员的访谈以及基于小额信贷以往文献的内容编制问卷得到数据来进行实证分析,我们在也门调查了 8家小额信贷机构并得到了相关数据,然后利用多维回归和相关性分析来探讨公司治理和公司绩效的关系。根据以上的分析,我们能够得到对小额信贷机构董事会成员进行能力培训是小额信贷机构能良好发展的重要条件,第二,设置明确的标准来保证新加入成员的质量,以至于董事会能够较好地为公司发展指明正确方向。最后,独立董事以及监事会成员的加入对于小额信贷机构也至关重要。本文希望对也门小额信贷机构的公司治理提供指导,并对公司治理相关理论进行补充。
