Bone marrow biopsy findings in brucellosis patients with hematologic abnormalities

Background Brucellosis can mimic various multisytem diseases, showing wide clinical polymorphism that frequently leads to misdiagnosis and treatment delay, further increasing the complication rates. In this study, we aimed to examine bone marrow biopsy findings in brucellosis cases presenting with hematologic abnormalities. Methods Forty-eight brucellosis cases were prospectively investigated. Complaints and physical examination findings of patients were recorded. Patients＇ complete blood count, routine biochemical tests, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein and serological screenings were performed. Bone marrow biopsy and aspiration was performed in patients with cytopenia, for bone marrow examination and brucella culture, in accordance with the standard procedures from spina iliaca posterior superior region of pelvic bone. Results Of the 48 patients, 35 （73%） were female and 13 （27%） were male. Mean age was （34.8±15.4） years （age range： 15-70 years）. Anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia and pancytopenia were found in 39 （81%）, 28 （58%）, 22 （46%） and 10 patients （21%）, respectively. In the examination of bone marrow, hypercellularity was found in 35 （73%） patients. Increased megacariocytic, erythroid and granulocytic series were found in 28 （58%）, 15 （31%） and 5 （10%） patients, respectively. In addition, hemophagocytosis was observed in 15 （31%） patients, granuloma observed in 12 （25%） and increased eosinophil and plasma cells observed in 9 （19%） patients. Conclusion According to the results of our series, hemophagocytosis, microgranuloma formation and hypersplenism may be responsible for hematologic complications of brucellosis.

Purpose: It is well known that trace elements and heavy metals play a significant role in human health and disease. These elements play an important role in different metabolic pathways of cells and tissues. Trace element deficiency or excess is implicated in the development or progression of some cancers. We present a study which investigates serum/ plasma levels of trace-heavy elements in metastatic colon cancer patients and healthy subjects. Methods: Blood samples were collected from 29 healthy subjects and 40 patients with metastatic colon cancer in Oncology Department of Medical School of Yuzuncu Yil University. In both groups, the serum levels of copper (Cu), magnesium (Mg), lead (Pb), chromium (Cr), zinc (Zn) selenium (Se), manganese (Mn), and cadmium (Cd) were determined. Results: Higher levels of Cu, Mg, Pb, Cr, Zn, Mn and Cd were seen in patients with metastatic colon cancer compared to healthy subjects and these findings were statistically significant (p 0.05). Se levels were noted to be lower in patients with colon cancer in comparison to healthy subjects and this finding was also statistically significant (p 0.05). Conclusions: According to our findings there was significant diffence in trace elements and heavy metals levels between healthy subjects and metastatic colon cancer patients. Therefore heavy metal and trace elements may have prognostic significance in complex disorders including colon cancer. However, further comprehensive studies are needed in order to advance our understanding of the relationship between heavy metal and trace elements and their role in cancers.

The aim of this study was to determine the structural designing parameters of silo and bins used for storage of some hybrid corn varieties(Zea mays L.).In the research,three corn varieties-dentcorn(Zea mays indentata Sturt.),popcorn(Zea mays everta Sturt.),sweetcorn(Zea mays sacharata Sturt.)-widespread cultivated in Turkey were ***-mechanical parameters(bulk density,true density,angle of internal friction,static coefficient of friction)were considered as the dependent variables,and moisture content(8%,10%,12%,and 14%)as the independent *** bulk density,true density and angle of internal friction varied from 608.46 to 856.46 kg/m^(3),950.88 to 1110.89 kg/m^(3),and 25.2°to 34.2°,respectively,with the increase in moisture content from 8% to 14%.According to results of the research,the highest average value for bulk density,true density,angle of internal friction were found in popcorn variety(839.17 kg/m^(3)),popcorn variety(1074.40 kg/m^(3)),sweetcorn variety(30.50°),*** highest average value for static coefficient of friction at concrete surface(C30)was recorded in dentcorn variety(0.662).

The mobility of clusters on a semiconductor surface for various values of cluster size is studied as a function of temperature by kinetic Monte Carlo method. The cluster resides on the surface of a square grid. Kinetic processes such as the diffusion of single particles on the surface, their attachment and detachment to/from clusters, diffusion of particles along cluster edges are considered. The clusters considered in this study consist of 150-6000 atoms per cluster on average. A statistical probability of motion to each direction is assigned to each particle where a particle with four nearest neighbors is assumed to be immobile. The mobility of a cluster is found from the root mean square displacement of the center of mass of the cluster as a function of time. It is found that the diffusion coefficient of clusters goes as D = A（T）Na where N is the average number of particles in the cluster, A（T） is a temperature-dependent constant and a is a parameter with a value of about -0.64 〈 a 〈 -0.75. The value of a is found to be independent of cluster sizes and temperature values （170-220 K） considered in this study. As the diffusion along the perimeter of the cluster becomes prohibitive, the exponent approaches a value of -0.5. The diffusion coefficient is found to change by one order of magnitude as a function of cluster size.

In this work, it is aimed to find one- and two-soliton solutions to nonlinear Tzitzeica-Dodd-Bullough （TDB） equation. Since the double exp-function method has been widely used to solve several nonlinear evolution equations in mathematical physics, we have also used it with the help of symbolic computation for solving the present equation. The method seems to be easier and more accurate thanks to the recent developments in the field of symbolic computation.

Objective:To evaluate the epidemiological,demographic,clinical features,treatment approaches,and survival of patients followed up for adrenal ***:Data from 46 patients who were treated and followed up due to adrenal incidentaloma in the Endocrinology Department of Mersin University Health Research and Application Hospital between 2010 and 2014 were retrospectively ***:Of the cases included in the study,13 were male,33 were female,and the mean age was 54.09±10.7 *** most common reason for admission was abdominal pain in 34.78%of the patients,the most commonly diagnosed radiological method was dynamic adrenal CT in 60.87%,and the most common location was the left adrenal *** mean lesion diameter was between 26.8±16.5 *** frequency of hypertension was 50%,obesity 47.8%,type 2 diabetes 21.7%,osteoporosis 42.8%,and metabolic syndrome 41.3%.According to hormonal evaluation results,non-functional adrenal adenoma(NFAA)was found in 82.61%,subclinical Cushing’s syndrome(SCS)in 15.21%,and aldosteronoma in 2.1%.Myelolipoma,pheochromocytoma,and adrenocortical adenoma were diagnosed in 8 cases undergoing *** patient died due to liver *** hormonal activation or growth in lesion size was detected during the follow-up of the ***:Due to the very different pathological and radiological appearances of adrenal incidentaloma,it is important to evaluate demographic,etiological,clinical,laboratory,and radiological data as a whole in the treatment and follow-up.
