Results of percutaneous sclerotherapy and surgical treatment in patients with symptomatic simple liver cysts and polycystic liver disease

AIm: To evaluate the results of the treatment of simple liver cysts (solitary and multiple) and polycystic liver disease (PLD) using percutaneous sclerotherapy and/or surgical procedures in a single tertiary referral centre. mETHODS: Retrospective analysis of 54 patients referred for evaluation and possible treatment of simple liver cysts (solitary and multiple) and PLD, from January 1997 to July 2006. RESULTS: Simple liver cysts were treated in 41 pts (76/) with a mean size of 12.6 cm. The most common reason for referral was abdominal pain or discomfort (85/). Percutaneous sclerotherapy was performed as initial treatment in 30 pts, showing cyst recurrence in 6 pts (20/). Surgical treatment was initially performed in 11 pts with cyst recurrence in 3 pts (27/). PLD was treated in 13 pts (24/) with a mean size of the dominant cyst of 13 cm. Percutaneous sclerotherapy for PLD was performed in 9 pts with recurrence in 7 pts (77.8/). Surgical treatment for PLD was undertaken in 4 pts (30.8/) with recurrence in all. Eventually, 2 pts with PLD in the presence of polycystic kidney disease underwent liver-and kidney transplantation because of deterioration of liver and kidney function. CONCLUSION: The majority of patients with simple liver cysts and PLD are referred for progressive abdominal pain. As initial treatment, percutaneous sclerotherapy is appropriate. Surgical deroofing is indicated in caseof cyst recurrence after percutaneous sclerotherapy. However, the results of percutaneous sclerotherapy and surgical treatment for PLD are disappointing. Partial liver resection is indicated when there is suspicion of a pre-malignant lesion.

Transforming growth factor-beta(TGFβ)is a highly potent immunosuppressive *** TGFβis a tumor suppressor in early/premalignant cancer lesions,the cytokine has several tumor-promoting effects in advanced cancer;abrogation of the antitumor immune response is one of the most important tumor-promoting *** several immunoregulatory mechanisms have recently been shown to be targets of specific T cells,we hypothesized that TGFβis targeted by naturally occurring specific T cells and thus could be a potential target for immunomodulatory cancer ***,we tested healthy donor and cancer patient T cells for spontaneous T-cell responses specifically targeting 3820-mer epitopes derived from TGFβ*** identified numerous CD4^(+)and CD8^(+)T-cell responses against several epitopes in TGFβ.Additionally,several ex vivo responses were *** enriching specific T cells from different donors,we produced highly specific cultures specific to several TGFβ-derived *** CD8^(+)T-cell clones specific for both a 20-mer epitope and a 9-mer HLA-A2 restricted killed epitope peptide were pulsed in HLA-A2+target cells and killed the HLA-A2+cancer cell lines THP-1 and ***,stimulation of THP-1 cancer cells with cytokines that increased TGFβexpression increased the fraction of killed *** conclusion,we have shown that healthy donors and cancer patients harbor CD4^(+)and CD8^(+)T cells specific for TGFβ-derived epitopes and that cytotoxic T cells with specificity toward TGFβ-derived epitopes are able to recognize and kill cancer cell lines in a TGFβ-dependent manner.

Effects of Alternative Nitrogen management Regimes on Production of Eucalyptus in Tropics and Sub-tropics

This paper presents a control approach for turbocharged spark ignition engines that coordinates the throttle and wastegate air path actuators in order to improve driveability without significant compromise in efficiency. The coordinated controller is based on a two-input single-output （TISO） architecture which can be tuned through classical frequency response techniques using linearizations of a nonlinear mean value engine model. A systematic tuning method for the TISO architecture based on prior work is recommended and explained. The controller is evaluated in simulation with a one-dimensional GT-Power model and its performance is compared to that of a controller that does not coordinate the throttle and wastegate.

This paper presents the effects of alternative nitrogen management regimes on production of Eucalyptus in tropics and sub-tropics carried out in autumn, 2011. The aim of the study was to review alternative nitrogen management regimes that could enhance the positive effects and reduce negative effects of different Eucalyptus species in the perspective of smallholders. Literature review was used to survey the alternative nitrogen management regimes on eucalyptus trees. There was a significant improvement （P ≤ 0.01） in mean annual increment （mAI） as measured at seven years of Eucalyptus tereticornis in the plots planted with only legume, pueraria and stylosanthes, compared to that of the control on altitude 150 m and rainfall of 2,000 mm at the age of seven years, The mAI of Eucalyptus urophylla and Eucalyptus camaldulensis in plots planted with beans and rice shows a significant improvement （P ≤ 0.05） over the control treatment. Only the plots treated with nitrogen fertilizer 550 kg/ha showed significant improvement （P ≤ 0.05） in terms of mAI of Eucalyptus nitens, compared to the control treatment. In general, it can be concluded that as these alternative management regimes enhance productivity of Eucalyptus woodlots, the challenge for the small-scale farmers is on how to manage them sustainably. Therefore, forest policies that take consideration of increasing production of Eucalyptus and managing biodiversity with reference to these alternative management regimes should be developed in tropics and sub-tropics.

In this paper we analyze and model three open problems posed by Harris, Insko, Prieto-Langarica, Stoisavljevic, and Sullivan in 2020 concerning the tipsy cop and robber game on graphs. The three different scenarios we model account for different biological scenarios. The first scenario is when the cop and robber have a consistent tipsiness level through the duration of the game;the second is when the cop and robber sober up as a function of time;the third is when the cop and robber sober up as a function of the distance between them. Using Markov chains to model each scenario we calculate the probability of a game persisting through M rounds of the game and the expected game length given different starting positions and tipsiness levels for the cop and robber.

Gene therapy using small interfering RNA(siRNA)is emerging as a novel therapeutic approach to treat various ***,safe and efficient siRNA delivery still constitutes the major obstacle for clinical implementation of siRNA *** we report an ionizable supramolecular dendrimer vector,formed via self-assembly of a small amphiphilic dendrimer,as an effective siRNA delivery system with a favorable safety *** virtue of the ionizable tertiary amine terminals,the supramolecular dendrimer has a low positively charged surface potential and no notable cytotoxicity at physiological ***,this ionizable feature imparted sufficient surface charge to the supramolecular dendrimer to enable formation of a stable complex with siRNA via electrostatic *** resulting siRNA/dendrimer delivery system had a surface charge that was neither neutral,thus avoiding aggregation,nor too high,thus avoiding cytotoxicity,but was sufficient for favorable cellular uptake and endosomal release of the *** tested in different cancer cell lines and patient-derived cancer organoids,this dendrimer-mediated siRNA delivery system effectively silenced the oncogenes myc and Akt2 with a potent antiproliferative effect,outperforming the gold standard vector,Lipofectamine ***,this ionizable supramolecular dendrimer represents a promising vector for siRNA *** concept of supramolecular dendrimer nanovectors via self-assembly is new,yet easy to implement in practice,offering a new perspective for supramolecular chemistry in biomedical applications.

Tire particles(TPs)are a major source of microplastic on land,and considering their chemical composition,they represent a potential hazard for the terrestrial *** studied the effectsof TPs at environmentally relevant concentrations alongawide concentrationgradient(0–160 mg g^(-1))and tested the effects on plant growth,soil pH and the key ecosystem process of litter decomposition and soil *** addition of TPs negatively affected shoot and root growth already at low *** litter decomposition slightly increased with lower additions of TPs but decreased later *** pH increased until a TP concentration of 80 mg g^(-1) and leveled off *** respiration clearly increased with increasing concentration of added *** growth was likely reduced with starting contamination and stopped when contamination reached a certain level in the *** presence of TPs altered a number of biogeochemical soil parameters that can have further effects on plant *** the quantities of yearly produced TPs,their persistence,and toxic potential,we assume that these particles will eventually have a significant impact on terrestrial ecosystems.

采用精密切片及划片技术,制备边长分别为100μm和200μm的硬化水泥净浆微观立方体试件。采用纳米压痕仪,利用不同几何形状的压头,对制备的试件进行无侧限轴压及单边劈裂测试,在微观尺度上研究硬化水泥净浆的抗压和劈裂强度。为了表征硬化水泥净浆微观尺度的变异性,每组工况测试100个样品,建立数据库,进行统计分析。结果表明:硬化水泥净浆的微观强度概率分布可以用二参数Weibull分布函数进行表征;高水胶比的硬化水泥净浆的平均强度较低且变异性高;试件尺寸对测试结果具有显著影响,强度和变异性均随试件尺寸增大而降低。与已有研究结果对比,发现硬化水泥净浆的微观强度和离散性介于单一水化产物和混凝土之间。
