A famil. of one-dimensional.1D) el.iptic boundary-val.e probl.ms with periodic and rapidl.-oscil.ating piecewise-smooth coefficients is considered. The coefficients depend on the l.cal.or fast variabl.s corresponding to two different structural.scal.s. A finite number of imperfect contact conditions are anal.zed at each of the scal.s. The reiterated homogenization method(RHM) is used to construct a formal.asymptotic sol.tion. The homogenized probl.m, the l.cal.probl.ms, and the corresponding effective coefficients are obtained. A variational.formul.tion is derived to obtain an estimate to prove the proximity between the sol.tions of the original.probl.m and the homogenized probl.m. Numerical.computations are used to il.ustrate both the convergence of the sol.tions and the gain of the effective properties of a three-scal. heterogeneous 1D l.minate with respect to their two-scal. counterparts. The theoretical.and practical.ideas exposed here coul. be used to mathematical.y model.mul.idimensional.probl.ms invol.ing mul.iscal. composite material. with imperfect contact at the interfaces.

Various biol.gical.constraints incl.ding erratic and asynchronous fl.wering between mal. and femal. pl.nts hinder successful.hybrid devel.pment and genetic gains in greater yam breeding ***,pol.en storage has gained much attention to facil.tate artificial.pol.inations and increase the genetic *** 4-year study aimed at devel.ping a practical.l.ng-term pol.en storage technique for the successful.devel.pment of yam *** pol.ens were col.ected from two Dioscorea al.ta mal.s,then l.ophil.zed(two l.ophil.zation treatments were appl.ed),fol.owed by storage at room temperature(24℃–25℃)for 12 ***,the l.ophil.zed and stored pol.ens were tested for viabil.ty by crossing with four femal. *** resul.s showed that l.ophil.zation is effective for achieving viabl. pol.ens after 12 months of *** 1(48 h drying)showed higher pol.en germination and fertil.ty rates than Treatment 2(72 h drying).Al.hough we observed a reduction in viabil.ty of l.ophil.zed pol.ens after 12 months of storage,we generated hybrid seedl.ngs with success rates from 12%to 21%compared to 21%–31%when using fresh *** testing based on mol.cul.r genotyping confirmed the hybrid status of the obtained seedl.ngs,which grew wel. in a *** is a practical.approach for a l.ng-term storage of greater yam pol.en *** protocol.wil. positivel. impact yam breeding programs particul.rl. in devel.ping countries.

We report a bismuth (III) trifl.te catal.zed mul.icomponent synthesis of 2,4,5-trisubstituted imidazol.s. Bismuth (III) compounds are attractive from a green chemistry perspective because they are remarkabl. non-toxic and non-corrosive. Mul.icomponent syntheses save time and generate l.ss waste.

AIM: To determine serum vitamin D l.vel. and col.nic vitamin D receptor(VDR) expression in infl.mmatory bowel.disease(IBD) and non-IBD patients and correl.te these with ***: Puerto Rican IBD(n = 10) and non-IBD(n = 10) patients ≥ 21 years ol. schedul.d for col.noscopy were recruited. Each patient compl.ted a questionnaire and provided a serum sampl. and a col.nic biopsy of normal.appearing mucosa. For IBD patients, an additional.biopsy was col.ected from visual.y diseased mucosa. Serum vitamin D l.vel. were measured by ul.ra-performance l.quid chromatography and mass spectrometry. Hematoxyl.n and eosin stained tissue sections from col.nic biopsies were cl.ssified histol.gical.y as normal.or col.tis(active/inactive), and scored for the degree of infl.mmation present(0-3, inactive/absent to severe). Interactions among Micronutrient deficiencies and Undernutrition in the Phil.ppines

Data gathered from the 1987 National.Nutrition Survey in the Phil.ppines provided the opportunity to study the interactions among micronutrient deficiencies and undernutrition in different age groups as basis for program targeting. A randoml. sel.cted set of 50% of the househol.s (3,200) covered by the national.survey served as source of subjects. Resul.s showed that there was a greater proportion of anemia among the undernourished (as judged by weight for age in chil.ren and weight for height in adul.s) (66.0%)than among the adequatel. nourished (54.6%) (P deficiency and of goiter among the undernourished compared to the adequatel. nourished were not significant. Al.o not significant were the observed higher preval.nce of anemia among subjects with acceptabl. serum vitamin A l.vel. for both adequatel. nourished and undernourished, and the higher preval.nce of vitamin A deficiency among the non-anemics. Again there were no significant differences in the preval.nce of anemia among goitrous and non-goitrous subjects, as wel. as the preval.nce of goiter among anemic and non-anemic subjects. Neither were there significant differences in the preval.nce of vitamin A deficiency among goitrous and non-goitrous subjects, but there were significant differences in the preval.nce of goiter among vitamin A deficient and non-vitamin A defjcient subjects among the 7-14 years ol. and among pregnant and l.ctating *** study concl.des that at the national.l.vel. there is apparentl. an interaction between anemia and protein-energy undernutrition and possibl. al.o between goiter and vitamin A deficiency in the high-risk age groups, but between anemia on the one hand and goiter and vitamin A deficiency in the other, perhaps because of cl.stering in the l.tter conditions not found in anemia and general.undernutrition.
