The widespread adoption of bead-based multiplexed bioassays requires the ability to easily synthesize encoded microspheres and conjugate analytes of interest to their ***,we present a simple method(MRBLEs 2.0)for the efficient high-throughput generation of microspheres with ratiometric barcode lanthanide encoding(MRBLEs)that bear functional groups for downstream surface *** production in MRBLEs 2.0 relies on the manual mixing of lanthanide/polymer mixtures(each of which comprises a unique spectral code)followed by droplet generation using single-layer,parallel flow-focusing devices and the off-chip batch polymerization of droplets into *** streamline downstream analyte coupling,MRBLEs 2.0 crosslinks copolymers bearing functional groups on the bead surface during bead *** the MRBLEs 2.0 pipeline,we generate monodisperse MRBLEs containing 48 distinct well-resolved spectral codes with high throughput(>150,000/min and can be boosted to 450,000/min).we further demonstrate the efficient conjugation of oligonucleotides and entire proteins to carboxyl MRBLEs and of biotin to amino ***,we show that MRBLEs can also be magnetized via the simultaneous incorporation of magnetic nanoparticles with only a minor decrease in the potential code *** the advantages of dramatically simplified device fabrication,elimination of the need for custom-made equipment,and the ability to produce spectrally and magnetically encoded beads with direct surface functionalization with high throughput,MRBLEs 2.0 can be directly applied by many labs towards a wide variety of downstream assays,from basic biology to diagnostics and other translational research.

Magnetic Characterization of Amphibolites from the Fomopéa Pluton(west Cameroon):Their Implication in the Pan-African Deformation of the Central African Fold Belt

The Fomopea granitic pluton is emplaced in gnessic and amphibolitic basement. These gneissic and amphibolitic basement rocks are represented in the pluton＇s body as sub-rounded, elongated or stretched xenoliths. Amphibolitic xenoliths display testimonies of two main tectonic events namely：（i） El flattening deformation event characterized by a Nw-SE to E-w foliation with a best pole at 246/57 and a mineral stretched lineation with a best line at 293/47; and （ii） E2 compressive event typified by （1） N-S to NNE-SSw steeply dipping foliation; （2） S-type flexion-fold indicating a sinistral shear movement. These amphibolite rocks indicate a magnetic susceptibility magnitude （Km） range from 418 ~SI to 90092 IISI for 87% of the stations showing a ferromagnetic behavior. K-T curves reveal the presence of Ti-poor magnetite as susceptibility mineral carrier. Magnetic foliation and lineation suggest that the N-S strike direction observed in the Bamendou amphibolite is, as pointed out elsewhere in the Central African Fold Belt, of paramount importance in the tectonic evaluation of the Fomopea area, since it has most likely acted as major deformation phase in the second tectonic event in the belt.

A New Theoretical Technique for the Measurement of High-Frequency Relic Gravitational waves

Under most models of the early universe evolution, high-frequency gravitational waves (HFGws) were produced. They are referred to as “relic” high-frequency gravitational waves or HFRGws and their detection and measurement could provide important information on the origin and development of our Universe – information that could not otherwise be obtained. So far three instruments have been built to detect and measure HFRGws, but so far none of them has achieved the required sensitivity. This paper concerns another detector, originally proposed by Baker in 2000 and patented, which is based upon a recently discovered physical effect (the Li effect);this detector has accordingly been named the “Li-Baker detector.” The detector has been a joint development effort by the P. R. China and the United States HFGw research teams. A rigorous examination of the detector’s performance is important in the ongoing debate over the value of attempting to construct a Li-Baker detector and, in particular, an accurate prediction of its sensitivity in the presence of significant noise will decide whether the Li-Baker detector will be capable of detecting and measuring HFRGws. The potential for useful HFRGw measurement is theoretically confirmed.

为了将自抗扰控制算法应用于有源电力滤波器,研究了基于DS1104控制板的并联型有源电力滤波器的硬件设计和控制算法实现问题。选定智能功率模块(IPM)为有源电力滤波器的主电路之后,给出了系统硬件的总体结构和布局。采用DS1104控制板,可以直接利用MATLAB/Simulink软件,设计系统的自抗扰控制框图,并能将控制框图自动转换成源代码,下载到DSP中运行,实现系统的自抗扰控制。实验结果验证了硬件实现方式的正确性,并且由于DS1104的卓越性能和友好的工作界面,可以简化系统的实现、降低设计成本。

Systemic therapy without radiation may be appropriate as neoadjuvant therapy for localized pancreas cancer

Background:The utility of neoadjuvant treatment for resectable pancreas cancer is yet to be determined,but has commonly included *** evaluated outcomes in patients with radiographically resectable pancreatic adenocarcinoma treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy without ***:A retrospective review of patients in our institutional pancreatic cancer registry was performed,which identified 36 patients who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy alone for resectable pancreatic adenocarcinoma between 2012 and ***:Median age at diagnosis was 66.3 *** regimens included gemcitabine(n=17),gemcitabine/nab-paclitaxel(n=8),or 5-FU/leucovorin/irinotecan/oxaliplatin(FOLFIRINOX)(n=11).Surgical resection was performed in 69%of patients(n=25),with an R0 resection rate of 92%(n=23 patients).During chemotherapy,distant disease became apparent in 19%of patients(n=7),while no patients had evidence of local *** rates were similar between chemotherapy regimens(single agent=59%,multiple agent=79%).Median overall survival for all patients who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy was 30.3 and 34.4 months for those who underwent surgical *** was no difference in median survival for patients treated with gemcitabine(31.3 months)or multi-agent chemotherapy(29.7 months).Conclusions:A short course of neoadjuvant chemotherapy without chemoradiation may improve patient selection prior to surgical resection for pancreas ***,local disease progression did not limit surgical resection in this small series.

Is Evidence-Based Conservation Applied in Urban Forestry? A Case Study from Toronto, Canada

Evidence-based conservation seeks to incorporate sound scientific information into environmental decision making. The application of this concept in urban forest management has tremendous potential, but to date has been little applied, largely because existing scientific studies emphasize the importance of urban forests in large-scale ecological and anthropogenic processes, but in practice, scientific evidence is ostensibly incorporated into North American urban forest management only when deciding the fate of individual trees. Even under these disjunctive conditions, the degree to which evidence influences tree-level decisions remains debatable. In analyzing preliminary data from a case study from Toronto, Canada, we sought to test if and how scientific evidence factored into the decision to remove or preserve 53 trees, located in close proximity to a provincially significant area of natural and scientific interest (ANSI). we found that by far the strongest tree-level correlate of the recommendation to remove or preserve trees was whether or not an individual tree was in conflict with proposed development. In comparison, species identity, tree condition, and suitability for conservation were statistically unrelated to the final recommendation. Our findings provide the basis to expand our analysis to multiple case studies across Canada, and internationally. Furthermore, when interpreted with available research and policy, our preliminary (and future) analysis highlights clear opportunities where scientific evidence can and should be readily incorporated into urban forestry management and policy.

Cirrhosis: Therapeutic Aspects and Outcome for Hospitalized Patients in Burkina Faso

Introduction: Cirrhosis represents 27.63% of the hepatobiliary diseases in Burkina Faso. we aimed at studying the therapeutic and evolutionary features of the cirrhosis. Patients and methods: we implemented a cross-sectional and descriptive study, collecting retrospectively the data from 1st January 2012 to 31st March 2014. The diagnosis of cirrhosis was based on 1) clinical criteria (an edema-ascitic syndrome with a heterogeneous hepatomegaly with a sharp inferior border or atrophic liver and a portal hypertension);2) biological criteria (a hepatocellular insufficiency syndrome);and 3) ultrasound imaging suggesting cirrhosis. Qualitative variables were presented as frequencies and percentages while quantitative ones were presented as means. Results: The data of 273 patients representing 33.9% of all hospitalizations were analyzed. The hepatobiliary diseases represented 74.7% of all diagnosis. The participants’ mean age was 46.9 years and the sex ratio, 2.7. The HBs antigen and anti-HCV antibodies were positive in 76.5% and 14.6% of the cases, respectively. Ascites was treated with puncture in 40.2% of patients, a salt-free diet (38.8%) and diuretics (54.2%). Hepatic encephalopathy was treated with lactulose in 73.6% of patients and two patients (1.3%) underwent esophageal varices ligation to treat their gastrointestinal bleeding. Lamivudine, tenofovir, and lamivudine-tenofovir combination were administered to 57.4%, 32.8%, and 10% of HBs Antigen positive patients, respectively. Conclusion: Cirrhosis still mostly affects the young and active male population at the gastro-enterology department of the university teaching hospital Yalgado Ouédraogo. Patients show up at a very advanced stage of the disease in poorly prepared health centres. In this context, prevention by the anti-hepatitis B immunization and early systematic screening

Role of Multiple High-Capacity Irrigation wells on a Surficial Sand and Gravel Aquifer

within McHenry County, IL, the fastest growing county in Illinois, groundwater is used for 100% of the water needs. Concerns over water resources have prompted the investigation of the surficial sand and gravel aquifers of the county. while the eastern portion of the county is urbanizing, the western portion remains devoted to agriculture. High-capacity irrigation wells screened within the surficial sand and gravel aquifer are used for crop production. To assess the impacts of the irrigation wells on the aquifer, a groundwater flow model was developed to examine five different scenarios reflecting drought conditions and increased pumping. Results show that the surficial sand and gravel aquifer is capable of meeting current water demands even if recharge is decreased 20% and pumping is increased 20%. The additional loss of discharge and increases in pumping result in head differences throughout the aquifer.
