Diffusive gradients in thin films(DGT)measurements have been shown to outperform other phosphorus(P)tests in soils with strong P sorption,but this has not been confirmed for moderately weathered European *** compared the performance of DGT in predicting wheat grain yield in Swedish long-term fertility experiments with those of standard intensity(water-extractable P(P-H2O))and quantity(ammonium lactate-extractable P(P-AL))tests.A Mitscherlich-type model was used to fit wheat yield response to P application rates(0,15,30 or 35,and 45 kg P ha-1 year-1)in each individual trial replicate to estimate the maximum *** trials with clear plateau-type yield responses and the goodness of fit(R2)>0.75,relative yields(RYs)were calculated for each P treatment and plotted against the soil P test results(n=143).The goodness of the Mitscherlich-type fits decreased in the following order:DGT-measured P(P-DGT)(R2=0.35)>P-H2O(R2=0.18)>P-AL(R2=0.13).when excluding soils with P-AL:P-DGT≥0.1 L g-1,R2 was considerably improved to 0.55 for P-AL,0.46 for P-H2O,and 0.65 for P-DGT(n=61).At 95%of maximum yield,the upper limit of P deficiency for P-DGT was 44.8(the soils with P-AL:P-DGTwithin the range reported for other European and Australian soils(6.0–142μg L-1).we show that in the investigated Swedish soils,DGT performed better than the quantity and intensity tests,which is attributed to its ability to capture P diffusion and resupply from the soil solid phase,similar to plant roots in the rhizosphere.

Recovery of an imperiled plant species may require augmentation of existing populations or creation of new *** of such projects have been conducted over the last few decades,but there is a bias in the literature favoring successes over *** this paper,we evaluate a series of introductions that experimentally manipulated microhabitat and fire in an adaptive introduction *** 2002 and 2012,we(and our collaborators) carried out ten introductions and augmentations of Florida ziziphus Pseudoziziphus(Condalia,Ziziphus) celata,a clonal shrub limited to very small populations and narrowly endemic to pyrogenic central Florida *** of the introductions were designed as experiments to test hypotheses about how demographic performance was affected by microhabitat,fire,and propagule *** transplants had high survival(wth,and little transition to reproduction,while introduced seeds had low germination and *** were more efficient than seeds as translocation ***(***) sites supported generally higher transplant and seedling survival and seed germination percentages,but growth responses varied among *** irrigation increased transplant survival and seed germination,but otherwise seedling and plant survival and growth were not significantly *** to expectations based on wild populations,introduced propagules have not been more successful in unshaded sites,suggesting that Florida ziziphus has broader microhabitat preferences than *** to wild plants,introduced plants had similar survival and responses to fire,slower growth,and more delayed *** plants had no clonal *** no introduced population has demonstrated a capacity for long-term viability,one augmented population has flowered and produced viable *** that Florida ziziphus genets are long-lived,low levels of sexual reproduction may be a

The forkhead transcription factors FOXO and FOXM1 have pivotal roles in tumorigenesis and in mediating chemotherapy sensitivity and *** research shows that the forkhead transcription factor FOXM1 is a direct transcriptional target repressed by the forkhead protein FOXO3a,a vital downstream effector of the PI3K-AKT-FOXO signaling ***,FOXM1 and FOXO3a also compete for binding to the same gene targets,which have a role in chemotherapeutic drug action and *** understanding of the role and regulation of the FOXO-FOXM1 axis will impact directly on our knowledge of chemotherapeutic drug action and resistance in patients,and provide new insights into the design of novel therapeutic strategy and reliable biomarkers for prediction of drug sensitivity.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) represents a unique challenge for physicians and *** is no definitively curative ***,many treatment and management modalities exist with differing advantages and *** current guidelines and individual patient concerns must be taken into account in order to properly manage *** addition,quality of life issues are particularly complex in patients with HCC and these concerns must also be factored into treatment ***,considering all the options and their various pros and cons can quickly become complex for both clinicians and *** this review,we systematically discuss the current treatment modalities available for HCC,detailing relevant clinical data,risks and rewards and overall outcomes for each *** options discussed include resection,transplantation and *** also discuss the radiation modalities:conformal radiotherapy,yttrium 90 microspheres and proton and heavy ion *** biologic agent Sorafenib is discussed as a promising new approach,and recent clinical trials are *** then detail currently described molecular pathways implicated in the initiation and progression of HCC,and we explore the potential of each pathway as an avenue for drug *** hope this comprehensive and forward-looking review enables both clinicians and patients to understand various options and thereby make more informed decisions regarding this disease.
