Accuracy and Consistency of Respiratory Inductive Plethysmography for Overnight Tidal Volume Measurement

To validate the accuracy and consistency of respiratory inductive plethysmography (RIP) in measuring tidal volume after an overnight sleep, tidal volumes of 18 patients with suspected sleep disordered breathing and 8 normal volunteers were measured simultaneously with RIP (V TRIP ) and with an ultrasonic airflow meter (V TUFM ) before and after an unstrained overnight sleep on supine and lateral decubitus. The bias of the V TRIP was expressed as (V TRIP V TUFM )/ V TUFM ·100 %, limits of agreement between V TRIP and V TUFM was measured by averaged bias ±2 s . Results showed that in normal subjects, the bias of RIP before and after overnight sleep was precise and consistent in both supine (0.7 % and -1.6 %) and lateral decubitus (3.7 % and -0.56 %). In these patients, the bias of RIP before and after sleep in supine also remained small (1.9 % and 1.7 %), but it became larger in lateral decubitus (24.5 % and 20.4 %) and 11.5 % exceeded the limits of agreement observed in the evening. The patients′ body mass indices (BMI) were higher than those of normal subjects (median 34.2 vs. 27.8 kg/m 2). Pooled data showed that the bias of V TRIP in the morning on lateral decubitus but not on supine was correlated to BMI (Spearman R=0.32, n =52, P =0.02). Thus, we were led to conclude that the accuracy of V TRIP overnight was precise and consistent in normal subjects, but the deviation of V TRIP measured on lateral decubitus in patients especially in those with excessive obesity was greater, thus, the method should not be used for quantitative determination.

Foam rolling and stretching do not provide superior acute flexibility and stiffness improvements compared to any other warm-up intervention: A systematic review with meta-analysis

Magnesium(Mg)is a promising alternative to lithium(Li)as an anode material in solid-state batteries due to its abundance and high theoretical volumetric ***,the sluggish Mg-ion conduction in the lattice of solidstate electrolytes(SSEs)is one of the key challenges that hamper the development of Mg-ion solid-state *** various Mg-ion SSEs have been reported in recent years,key insights are hard to be derived from a single literature ***,the structure-performance relationships of Mg-ion SSEs need to be further unraveled to provide a more precise design guideline for *** this viewpoint article,we analyze the structural characteristics of the Mg-based SSEs with high ionic conductivity reported in the last four decades based upon data mining-we provide big-data-derived insights into the challenges and opportunities in developing next-generation Mg-ion SSEs.

The later parts of the Quaternary are of particular importance for assessing our ability to understand the future operation of the Earth because the main boundary conditions are similar to those of today, and because we have a density of data that allows hypotheses to be tested rigorously. An important source of such data is Antarctic ice cores, now extending back 800 ka, and containing signals both of climate, and of climate forcing factors. The Antarctic ice core deuterium record, representing Antarctic temperature, is one of the iconic Quaternary records.

Is Tetranychus urticae suitable prey for development and reproduction of nafve Coleomegilla maculata？

The lady beetle Coleomegilla maculata De Geer is an omnivorous predator that could help suppress aphid and spider mite populations on plants in greenhouses, plantscapes or interiorscapes. we are assessing the nutritional requirements and feeding behavior of C. maculata on target prey （spider mites） and factitious （unnatural） food. Our ultimate goal is to develop an efficacious diet to mass produce C. maculata. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that Tetranychus urticae Koch （two-spotted spider mite） is not suitable prey for development and reproduction of naive C. maculata （i.e., with no prior exposure to T. urticae）. Our objectives were to （i） provide baseline data on the effects of consuming T. urticae on C. maculata life history, （ii） to compare the effects of consuming all stages of T. urticae versus eggs ofMusca domestica L. （common housefly）, and （iii） to determine if the consumption of plant products was beneficial. we used C. maculata from a colony reared only on Ephestia kuehniella Zeller （Mediterranean flour moth） eggs. In experiments, C. maculata larvae were reared from the first instar to adult stage with prey/food in replicated arenas; adult females were paired with a single male with prey/food. The results showed that naive C. maculata readily attacked and consumed T. urticae. Nevertheless, T. urticae was less suitable than M. domestica eggs for C. maculata development and reproduction. Applying a synthetic pollen-Chlorella alga powder （SPCA） in arenas containing T. urticae appeared to boost C. maculata female development and reproduction.
