Background heat stress has severe negative consequences on performance and health of pigs,leading to significant economic *** objective of this study was to investigate the effects of supplemental vitamin E and a botanical extract in feed or drinking water on growth performance,intestinal health,and oxidative and immune status in grow-ing pigs housed under heat stress *** Duplicate experiments were conducted,each using 64 crossbred pigs with an initial body weight of 50.7±3.8 and 43.9±3.6 kg and age of 13-week and 12-week,***(n=128)were housed individually and assigned within weight blocks and sex to a 2×4 factorial arrangement consisting of 2 environments(thermo-neutral(21.2℃)or heat-stressed(30.9℃))and 4 supplementation treatments(control diet;control+100 IU/L of D-α-tocopherol in water;control+200 IU/kg of DL-α-tocopheryl-acetate in feed;or control+400 mg/kg of a botanical extract in feed).Results heat stress for 28 d reduced(P≤0.001)final body weight,average daily gain,and average daily feed intake(-7.4 kg,-26.7%,and-25.4%,respectively)but no effects of supplementation were detected(P>0.05).Serum vitamin E increased(Ph vitamin E supplementation in water and in feed(1.64 vs.3.59 and 1.64 vs.3.24),but not for the botanical extract(1.64 vs.1.67 mg/kg)and was greater when supplemented in water ***(P=0.002).Liver vitamin E increased(Ph vitamin E supplementations in water(3.9 vs.31.8)and feed(3.9 vs.18.0),but not with the botanical extract(3.9 vs.4.9 mg/kg).Serum malondialdehyde was reduced with heat stress on d 2,but increased on d 28(interaction,Phe jejunum under heat stress,but increased in the ileum when vitamin E was supplemented in feed and water under heat stress(interaction,P=0.04).Tumor necrosis factor-αin jejunum and ileum mucosa decreased by heat stress(P<0.05)and was re

Iron isotopes， represented by δ56Fe， serve as valuable tools for constraining the surface iron processes and as potent tracers for studying the biogeochemical cycle of iron. Nevertheless， our comprehension of iron isotopes in the land surface processes of the Tibetan Plateau （TP） remains limited. In this study， we present the results of iron isotopic composition (δ56Fe) in the surface soils of the TP， encompassing both glacial and non-glacial regions characterized by rugged and flat topographies. Our findings reveal that soil δ56Fe values ranged from -0.01±0.05‰ to 0.14±0.01‰， with the highest values observed in eastern locations （0.14‰） and the lowest appeared in the northeast （-0.1‰）. On a global scale， the δ56Fe values observed in Tibetan soils exhibited relatively small variability compared to reservoirs marked by significant iron isotope fractionation. By contrast， the range of TP soils measured here was slightly larger than that of the Chinese Loess. Furthermore， we discerned noticeable spatial variations in δ56Fe across the large-scale region of TP， indicating a gradual increase trend from the northeast to the south and from the west to the east. These regional disparities in δ56Fe likely arise from a combination of constraining factors， including differences in mineralogy， lithological variations， organic matter content， and variations in chemical weathering intensity. This study is pivotal in advancing our understanding of land surface iron isotope δ56Fe dynamics and its role in the biogeochemical cycle within the TP region.

Background: Stroke survivors who exhibit impaired cognition at admission to inpatient rehabilitation may experience participation challenges and poorer functional outcomes than those without impaired cognition. Differences in functional outcomes between stroke survivors with and without impaired cognition may be attributed to age, level of cognitive impairment, and severity of stroke. Materials and Methods: A retrospective secondary data analysis was conducted using health-related administrative data acquired from a Southwestern Ontario hospital’s stroke rehabilitation database. The aim was to explore potential linkages between post-stroke impaired cognition and functional gains, rehabilitation stays, and living settings after discharge from rehabilitation. Results: An aggregate sample of 393 males and 314 females subclassified as experiencing mild, moderate, and severe stroke was analyzed. At inpatient rehabilitation admission, 21.5% (n = 152) of these patients had no impaired cognition, 33.7% (n = 238) had mild impaired cognition, 22.2% (n = 157) had moderate impaired cognition, and 22.6% (n = 160) had severe impaired cognition. Cognitively impaired stroke patients were significantly (p 0.001) older, had (mostly) moderate to severe stroke with significantly (p = 0.012) more moderate cognitive impairment, had significantly (p 0.001) longer rehabilitation stays, and a high propensity for being discharged to longer-term care facilities compared to non-cognitively impaired patients. Conclusion: Presence of significant dissimilarity in rehabilitation stays and post-discharge destinations among stroke survivors with and without cognitive impairment is attributed to the age of the patient, level of cognitive impairment, and rigorous rehabilitation interventions.

OBJECTIVE:To compare the immediate, early, and delayed percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) strategies in non-ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) patients with high-risk.METhODS:Medical records of patients treated at the Daping hospital, Third Military Medical University, Chongqing, China between 2011 and 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. Only patients with complete available information were included. All patients assigned into three groups based on the timing of PCI including immediate (h), early (2-24 h) and delayed (≥ 24 h) intervention. Multivariable Cox hazards regression and simpler nonlinear models were performed.RESULTS:A total of 657 patients were included in the study. The median follow-up length was 3.29 (interquartile range: 1.45-4.85) years. Early PCI strategy improved the major adverse cardiac event (MACE) outcome compared to the immediate or delayed PCI strategy. Early PCI, diabetes mellitus, and left main or/and left anterior descending or/and left circumflex stenosis or/and right coronary artery ≥ 99% were predictors for MACE outcome. The optimal timing range for PCI to reduce MACE risk is 3-14 h post-admission. For high-risk NSTEMI patients, early PCI reduced primary clinical outcomes compared to immediate or delayed PCI, and the optimal timing range was 3-14 h post-admission. Delayed PCI was superior for NSTEMI with chronic kidney injury.CONCLUSIONS:Delayed invasive strategy was helpful to reduce the incidence of MACE for high-risk NSTEMI with chronic kidney injury. An immediate PCI strategy might increase the rate of MACE.
