Gold nanoshells： Contrast agents for cell imaging by cardiovascular optical coherence tomography

Optical coherence tomography （OCT） has gained considerable attention in interventional cardiovascular medicine and is currently used in clinical settings to assess atherosclerotic lesions and to optimize stent placement. Artery imaging at the cellular level constitutes the first step towards cardiovascular molecular imaging, which represents a major advance in the development of personalized noninvasive therapies. In this work we demonstrate that cardiovascular OCT can be used to detect individual cells suspended in biocompatible fluids. Importantly, the combination of this catheter-based clinical technique with gold nanoshells （GNSs） as intracellular contrast agents led to a substantial enhancement in the backscattered signal produced by individual cells. This cellular contrast enhancement was attributed to the large backscattering cross-section of GNSs at the OCT laser wavelength （1,300 nm）. A simple intensity analysis of OCT cross-sectional images of suspended cells makes it possible to identify the sub-population of living cells that successfully incorporated GNSs. The generalizability of this method was demonstrated using two different cell lines （HeLa and Jurkat cells）. This work provides novel insights into cardiovascular molecular imaging using specifically modified GNSs.

AIM: To determine the possible association of the ApoB100 (Xba Ⅰ ), ApoE (Hha Ⅰ ) and CYP7A1 (Bsa Ⅰ ) gene polymorphisms, with the development of cholesterol gallstone disease (GD) in a Mexican population. METHODS: The polymorphisms were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction followed by restriction fragment length polymorphism, in two groups matched by ethnicity, age and sex: patients with GD (n = 101) and stone-free control subjects (n = 101). RESULTS: Allelic frequencies in patients and controls were: 34.16% vs 41.58% (P = 0.124) for X+of ApoB-100; 4.46% vs 5.94% (P = 0.501) for E2, 85.64% vs 78.22% (P = 0.052) for E3, 9.90% vs 15.84% (P = 0.075) for E4 of ApoE; and 25.74% vs 27.72% (P = 0.653) for C of CYP7A1. Differences in genotypic frequencies between the studied groups were not significant (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: These results demonstrated that no association exists between the studied polymorphisms and cholelithiasis in this high prevalent population.

Perceptions of fishers to sea turtle bycatch,illegal capture and consumption in the San Ignacio-Navachiste-Macapule lagoon complex,Gulf of California,Mexico

In this study, 10% of all registered fishermen in the coastal towns of Navachiste in Sinaloa, in northwestern Mexico, answered a survey designed to collect data on their perceptions of the following topics: the impact of turtle meat consumption;human health;bycatch;illegal turtle fishing;the illegal sea turtle market;the lo-cal economy;pollution;environmental education;the success of protective legislation;and sea turtle-based ec-otourism. Perceptions were analyzed using the fuzzy logic method through classification into 5 fuzzy member-ship sets: VL, very low;L, low;M, moderate;H, high;VH, very high. The 9 topics generated decision areas upon applying fuzzy inference that revealed the membership level of the answers in each fuzzy set. The eco-nomic potential of sea turtle-based ecotourism and the economic profitability of the illegal turtle meat market were perceived as VL. Conservation legislation was perceived as H, although inefficiently applied due to cor-ruption. Ecotourism and impacts on sea turtles were perceived as VL, because they were deemed unprofitable activities at the individual and community levels. Environmental education was perceived as L, because it cen-ters on nesting, hatching and releasing turtles and is directed at elementary and middle-school students. While fishers perceive a serious negative impact of fishing activities on sea turtles in the San Ignacio-Navachiste- Macapule area, they do not see themselves individually as part of the problem. Achieving sea turtle conserva-tion in this region requires: suitable ecotourism infrastructure, government investments in promotion, and stud-ies to estimate the minimum number of tourists needed to assure profitability.

Laparoscopic-assisted instillation of epinephrine and levobupivacaine enables cornual excision and anatomical reconstruction in unruptured cornual pregnancy

The objective of this report is to describe the possible use of intramiometrial vasoconstrictive agents for laparoscopic management of interstitial pregnancy and the consequences in anatomical results and reproductive outcomes. Cornual resection can be performed by laparoscopy, but the high vascularization of this area may result in profuse bleeding and laparoscopic suturing under these conditions might be impossible for the majority of the surgeons. We present a case that describes the possible use of intramiometrial instillation of a solution of diluted epinephrine and levobupivacaine under laparoscopic guidance that permitted a bloodless cornual excision with complete reconstruction. Vasoactive agents might have potentially serious cardiovascular side effects and the correct election of the active principle and the dosage is essential to reduce the risk of the surgery and obtain good anatomical results and reproductive outcomes. In conclusion, unruptured interstitial pregnancies can be managed successfully with intramyometrial instillation of epinephrine and bupivacaine. This simple technique is particularly attractive as it facilitates anatomical reconstruction of the cornual area, gives enough time to perform a complete suture of the defect and reduces the risk of laparotomic conversion.

The optimization of phenolic compounds extraction from cactus pear(Opuntia ficus-indica) skin in a reflux system using response surface methodology

Objective:To extract,quantify,and evaluate the phenolic content in Opuntia ficus-indica skin for their antioxidant capacity with three different methods(ABTS,DPPH,and lipid oxidation)and to optimize the extraction conditions[time,temperature and ethanol concentration)in a reflux ***:The extraction process was done using a reflux system.A San CristobalⅡexperimental design with three variables and three levels was *** variables evaluated were time of extraction(h),concentration of ethanol(%,v/v)and temperature(°C).The extraction process was optimized using a response surface ***:It was observed that at higher temperature more phenolic compounds were extracted,but the antioxidant capacity was *** optimum conditions for phenolic compounds extraction and antioxidant capacity mixing the three methods were as Follows:45%of ethanol,80℃and 2 hours of *** obtained in our results are little higher that other previously ***:It can he concluded the by-products of Opuntia ficus-indica represent a good source of natural antioxidants with possible applications in food,cosmetics or drugs industries.

本文的研究对象主要是国际移民中墨西哥移民在中国上海的移民情况。中国改革开放之后的十多年间,上海获得了极大关注,从上世纪70年代到80年代初,上海在中国的经济发展以及中国全球化的进程中扮演着越来越重要的角色。因为中国的主要城市集中在东部地区,尤其上海已经对劳动力的供需平衡以及外企在该地的投资做出实验,所以笔者特别呼吁要重视中国东部地区的国外移民情况。移民问题已经引起广泛讨论,因为移民对于很多城市的发展作出了重要贡献,这些移民中既包含国内移民也包含国外移民。其中关于中国国内移民现象的研究已经非常丰富,但是这与国外移民的研究还是有很大区别,中国国外移民的研究主要是对欧洲、亚洲、北美及非洲的移民研究,所以研究拉美国家在中国的移民现象是一个极大的挑战。尽管中国和大多数拉美国家的外交关系始于40多年前,但中国的繁荣发展对该地区的影响似乎还不太明显。所以本文研究的重点是在上海工作的墨西哥公民的移民情况。文章提出墨西哥移民作为国际移民的组成部分,其中一部分移民在当地就职并参与当地经济发展,这构建了一种新的移民方式。因此,本文通过实地调研获得一手资料,以便真正了解特定的国外移民在中国的生活状况,以及他们遇到的困难与挑战及相应的解决方案。考虑到中国政治、经济、社会等多领域不断发展变化,并在全球经济和外交中发挥着重要作用,所以本文的另一个角度是研究国际移民在该地开展工作的诸多原因。与此同时,本文对官方所提供的数据进行调研,例如这类移民总体情况,以及他们与中国当地居民融合情况等等,并对其细节进行充分的研究分析。第一章,集中阐述了研究内容,并为本文的阐述提供了假设。本文使用的研究方法主要是问卷调查法及深度访谈法,以及对一手资源和二手资源的进一步探索,为该研究提供了全面的信息支撑并且有助于对研究假设进行系统分析。第二章,主要介绍了中国移民的历史背景。本章简要介绍了移民与国际移民的概念及两者的异同,回顾了新古典主义、新自由主义等有关移民及国际移民的相关现代理论,进一步阐释不同地区人们流动背后的因素和动机。关于移民的理论研究非常广泛,在理论研究中可以反映一些经验与事实,因为理论涉及到社会生活的方方面面,但该研究重点考察经济因素和社会因素对移民的影响。第三章,阐述了中国国际移民的概况和现状。国际移民与国内移民存在区别,本章介绍了两者对上海等城市发展产生的影响,由于中国经济社会的迅速发展,上海在2020年可能会迎来国际移民的高峰,因此就可以进一步揭示出国际移民与中国上海的主要关系,以及外国人为什么选择上海作为移民地是其最向往的选择。本章最后通过引用领事馆及墨西哥驻中国大使馆提供的官方数据,介绍了中国的墨西哥移民案例,从而进一步说明本章论点。第四章,主要是对实证研究结果的分析和陈述。本章通过在上海生活和工作的墨西哥公民的访谈和问卷调查结果的分析,揭示他们目前的生活工作状况以及选择中国尤其是上海作为移民地的的主要原因,同时分析了他们对待移民地环境的态度。为了详细分析访谈和问卷的结果,本章分为两部分:第一部分整合了墨西哥移民面临的主要挑战,并阐述了应对这些困难的策略及他们对上海的适应情况。第二部分,笔者通过整理分析所有信息,对移民情况提出了自己的一些意见和建议。通过使用两种统计工具得出的研究结果仅仅是描述性的,但由于缺乏具有特殊意义的中国拉美裔人口的重要信息,帮助他们表达对中国的看法,在第4章中阐述了这部分国际移民者面临的主要挑战,以及他们为适应甚至融入不同文化,语言,社会等国家而采用的相关策略。从整个研究工作来看,文章深刻剖析了墨西哥移民在中国上海生活的总体概况与感受,以及他们在中国停留的动机和态度,这都表明国际移民将快速融入正在变化的中国社会。通过本文的研究不仅可以帮助我们全面了解墨西哥在中国上海的移民数据情况,还可以提供一条新的路径,为中国与墨西哥双方发展带来新战略和新举措,从而寻求更好的合作改变当地和国际经济的情况。

Anthracene Removal and Mineral N Dynamics in a Surfactant-Amended Soil

Surfactants, such as non-ionic Surfynol485(ethoxylated 2,4,7,9-tetramethyl-5-decyne-4,7-diol), have been applied to accelerate removal of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from soil. This study investigated the dissipation of anthracene, and carbon(C) and nitrogen(N) mineralization in soil amended with non-ionic Surfynol485 at different rates. Soil samples of a Typic Fragiudept taken from Otumba, Mexico were spiked with anthracene at a final concentration of 520 mg kg-1dry soil using acetone as solvent, amended with 0.0, 24.9, 49.8 or 124.4 g kg-1soil of the surfactant and incubated in the laboratory. The soil not amended with anthracene,acetone and the surfactant was used as a control. Dynamics of C and N and the concentration of anthracene were monitored for 56 d. After 56 d of incubation, 38% of the anthracene was removed from the unamended soil, and 47%, 55% and 66% of the anthracene were removed when 24.9, 49.8 and 124.4 g kg-1of the surfactant were applied, respectively. Application of acetone, anthracene or surfactant increased the emission of CO2, but decreased the mineral N compared to the unamended control. Applying the surfactant to the acetone or anthracene-amended soil reduced emission of CO2, but increased the mineral N at the lower application rates of the surfactant. It was found that the application of the non-ionic surfactant increased the bioavailability of anthracene and thus its removal from soil, increased C mineralization, but decreased N mineralization. Consequently, the application of non-ionic surfactant could be easily used to accelerate the removal of pollutants from hydrocarbon-contaminated soils, but mineral N in the soil would decrease, which might inhibit plant growth.
