AIM： To investigate the distribution pattern of lymphatic vessels and microvessels in sporadic colorectal carcinoma （SCRC） and their relationship to metastasis and prognosis. METHODS： The lymphatic vessel density （LVD） and microvessel density （MVD） in tumor tissue obtained from 132 patients with primary SCRC, including 74 with metastases and 58 without metastases, were evaluated by immunohistochemistry using antibodies directed against D2-40 and yon Willebrand factor （vWF）. RESULTS：（1） The lymphatic vessels and microvessels at central portions of SCRC often had a reticular architecture with numerous tiny and ill-defined lumina, while those at tumor borders had large and open lumina. The LVD and MVD were both obviously higher in colorectal cancer patients with metastases than in those without （P 〈 0.001）. （2） For each one lymphatic vessel increased, there was a 1.45-fold increase in the risk of metastasis in SCRC. The specificity and sensitivity of LVD in predicting metastasis or non-metastasis in SCRC were 71.62% and 56.90%, respectively, and the corresponding LVD was 5. For each one microvessel increased, there was a 1.11-fold increase in the risk of metastasis in SCRC. The specificity and sensitivity of MVD were 66.22% and 51.72%, respectively. （3） Double labeling immunohistochemistry showed D2-40 immunoreactivity to be specific for lymphatic vessels. （4） Univariate analysis indicated that high LVD, high MVD, as well as co-accounting of high LVD and high MVD were associated with patient＇s poor disease-free survival （Puni 〈 0.05）; multivariate analysis indicated that co-accounting of LVD and MVD was an independent prognostic factor of colorectal cancer, CONCLUSION： D2-40 is a new specific antibody for lymphatic endothelial cells. Lymphogenesis and angiogenesis are commonly seen in SCRC, especially at tumor borders. We are concerned with the derivation and analysis of one-dimensional hyperbolic systems of conservation laws modelling fluid flows such as the blood flow through compliant axisyminetric vessels. Early models derived are nonconservative and/or nonho- mogeneous with measure source terms, which are endowed with infinitely many Riemann solutions for some Riemann data. In this paper, we derive a one-dimensional hyperbolic system that is conservative and homogeneous. Moreover, there exists a unique global Riemann solution for the Riemann problem for two vessels with arbitrarily large Riemann data, under a natural stability entropy criterion. The Riemann solutions may consist of four waves for some cases. The system can also be written as a 3 × 3 system for which strict hyperbolicity fails and the standing waves can be regarded as the contact discontinuities corresponding to the second family with zero eigenvalue.

AIM: To explore whether the angiotensin Ⅱ (Ang Ⅱ) receptor 1 (AT1) antagonist, losartan could reduce activity and expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in rat atherosclerotic plaques. METHODS: Male Wistar-Kyoto rats were ip injected a single dose of vitamin D3 600 kU·kg-1·month-1 and fed an atherogenic diet for 4 months to induce experimental atheroma. Then either placebo or losartan 50 mg·kg-1·d-1 was administered in rats for another 2 months. In vitro, the effect of losartan 0.1-10μmol/L on the expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 was investigated in Ang II-stimulated rat peritoneal macrophages. The expression and activity of MMP-2 and MMP-9 were monitored by Western blot, RT-PCR, and SDS-PAGE zymography analysis. RESULTS: High levels of MMP-2 and MMP-9 were expressed in rat atherosclerotic lesions. Losartan significantly reduced the activity and expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 compared with the placebo group (MMP-2, 5861±539 vs 8991±965, P<0.05; MMP-9, 10527±1002 vs 14623±2462, P<0.01). In

The title compound has been synthesized by the reaction of [RuCl2-(PPh3)3], closo-[B10H10]2- and PhCH(OH)COOH in (CH3)2CHOH solution. Crystalsof the title compound suitable for a single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis were recrystallized from n-pentane/CH2Cl2 solution. The crystal is monoclinic, space group P21,/n,Mr=1294. 19, with a=11. 591 (6), b=23. 993(4), c=24. 900(4) A, β=90. 52(2), V= 6925(4) A3, Dc= 1.241 g/cm3, Z=4, A(MoKa) =0. 71073 A, P=6. 2cm-1, F(000)=2640, R=0. 046, wR2=0. 083, S=1. 09. The cluster is a bimetallicspecies in which the second ruthenium center is bound exopolyhedrally to the compound{(PPh3)2RuB10H8[OCH (CH3)2]2 } via an Ru (1) -C;(1)-Ru (2) bridge and Ru (2) B(6) and Ru(2)-B(7) bonds.
