Fluid-induced high-temperature metasomatism at Rundv?gshetta in the Lützow-Holm Complex, East Antarctica: Implications for the role of brine during granulite formation

We report new petrological, phase equilibria modeling, and fluid inclusion data for pelitic and mafic granulites from Rundv?gshetta in the highest-grade region of the Neoproterozoic Lützow-Holm Complex(LHC),East Antarctica, and provide unequivocal evidence for fluid-rock interaction and high-temperature metasomatism in the presence of brine fluid. The studied locality is composed dominantly of well-foliated pelitic granulite(K-feldspar+quartz+sillimanite+garnet+ilmenite) with foliation-parallel bands and/or layers of mafic granulite(plagioclase+orthopyroxene+garnet+ilmenite+quartz+biotite). The boundary between the two lithologies is defined by thin(about 1 -20 cm in thick) garnet-rich layers with a common mineral assemblage of garnet+plagioclase+quartz+ilmenite+biotite ? orthopyroxene. Systematic increase of grossular and decrease of pyrope contents in garnet as well as decreasing Mg/(Fe+Mg) ratio of biotite from the pelitic granulite to garnet-rich rock and mafic granulite suggest that the garnet-rich layer was formed by metasomatic interaction between the two granulite lithologies. Phase equilibria modeling in the system NCKFMASHTO demonstrates that the metasomatism took place at 850 -860℃, which is slightly lower than the peak metamorphism of this region, and the modal abundance of garnet is the highest along the metapeliteemetabasite boundary(up to 40%), which is consistent with the field and thin section observations. The occurrence of brine(7.0 -10.9 wt.% Na Cleqfor ice melting or 25.1 -25.5 wt.% NaC leqfor hydrohalite melting) fluid inclusions as a primary phase trapped within plagioclase in the garnet-rich layer and the occurrence of Cl-rich biotite(Cl = 0.22 -0.60 wt.%) in the metasomatic rock compared to that in pelitic(0.15 -0.24 wt.%) and mafic(0.06-0.13 wt.%) granulites suggest infiltration of brine fluid could have given rise to the high-temperature metasomatism. Bicoid Signal Extraction with a Selection of Parametric and Nonparametric Signal Processing Techniques

The maternal segmentation coordinate gene bicoid plays a significant role during Drosophila embryogenesis. The gradient of Bicoid, the protein encoded by this gene, determines most aspects of head and thorax development. This paper seeks to explore the applicability of a variety of signal processing techniques at extracting bicoid expression signal, and whether these methods can outperform the current model. We evaluate the use of six different powerful and widely-used models representing both parametric and nonparametric signal processing techniques to determine the most efficient method for signal extraetion in bicoid. The results are evaluated using both real and simulated data. Our findings show that the Singular Spectrum Analysis technique proposed in this paper outperforms the synthesis diffusion degradation model for filtering the noisy protein profile of bicoid whilst the exponential smoothing technique was found to be the next best alternative followed by the autoregressive integrated moving average.

Discharge Plasma Assisted Adsorbents for Exhaust Treatment: A Comparative Analysis on Enhancing NO_x Removal

An analysis has been made on the discharge plasma coupled with an adsorbent system for NOx removal. The cascaded plasma-adsorbent system may be perceived as a better alternative for the existing adsorbent-based abatement system in the industry. In this study the exhaust is sourced from a diesel generator set. It was observed that better NO removal in a plasma reactor can be made possible by achieving higher average fields and subsequent NO2 removal can be improved using an adsorbent system connected in cascade with the plasma system. The paper describes various findings pertaining to these comparative analyses.

In the last two to three decades or so, the spatial pattern of mineral occurrences of a deposit-type has been studied to derive insights to mineralization controls and assist mineral exploration. In the Skellefte district, Fry plots of volcanogenic massive sulfide （VMS） mines/ prospects reveal patterns that are likely due to post- mineralization deformation events. The fractal dimensions of the spatial patterns of the present-day VMS mines/ prospects and that of the ＇original＇ VMS deposits support the concept that spatial patterns of mineral deposits are spatially-invariant. Therefore, analysis of the spatial pattern of mineral deposits is useful not only in research about pre- and syn-mineralization geological settings but also post-mineralization geological settings.

Metal-organic frameworks incorporated with C3N4:A visible light enhanced platform for degradation of polybromodiphenyl ethers

A series of nano-photocatalysts metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)/graphitic carbon nitride(CN)(named MOFCN-x) with high activity have been synthesized by in-situ growth *** visible light irradiation, MOFCN-x hybrids show enhanced photocatalytic activity for the debromination of polybromodiphenyl ethers(PBDEs) compared with CN. Among all the hybrids, MOFCN-2 shows the highest reaction rate, which is 3.3 times as high as that in CN. MOFCN-x photocatalysts own stable visible light activity after recycled experiment. It indicates that a moderate amount of MOFs in MOFCN-x can largely enhance the photocatalytic ability by improved visible light absorption, larger specific surface area and better photo-generated charge carriers separation and transfer capabilities. More interestingly,the debromination pathway of PBDEs by MOFCN-x shows obvious selectivity compared with pure CN that bromines at meta-positions are much more susceptible than those at the paraand ortho-positions. The possible photoreductive mechanism has been proposed. This study shows that nanocomposite MOFCN can be an excellent candidate for dealing with halogen pollutants by solar-driven.

Thermal performance of lightweight concrete applications in building envelopes in Lebanon

Innovative building materials are being used in building envelopes for reducing their heating and cooling *** paper aims to assess the thermal impact of using lightweight concrete in Lebanese building constructions by pouring an 8 cm thickness of lightweight concrete on the roof and the slab and replacing traditional hollow concrete block by lightweight concrete *** properties of two different samples were experimentally determined:the first one(558 kg/m^(3))used for the roof and the slab and the second one(1074 kg/m^(3))used for the *** numerical simulations were carried out for a Lebanese traditional detached house using the characteristics of these two *** thermally improved Light Weight Concrete building(LWC)was compared to a traditional Lebanese house base case(BC)using a dynamic building energy simulation tool in the four different Lebanese climate zones:coastal,mid-mountain,mountain,and inland *** results highlight the effectiveness of integrating LWC to building envelopes by reducing energy consumption and improving thermal comfort in both winter and summer climate conditions and in the different Lebanese climatic *** paper demonstrates that the use of LWC in the vertical walls replacing the traditional hollow blocks can reduce the heating needs by up to 9%and by up to 13%for cooling *** the other hand,adding a LWC roof screed has a very high impact on cooling and heating energy consumption,which can reach up to 74%in cooling energy savings and up to 24%in heating energy savings.

Role of RIPK1 in the pathogenesis of acute respiratory distresssyndrome

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a life-threatening pulmonary disease typically caused bymicrobial infections, trauma, inhalation of harmful gases, and other factors. It is characterized by an inflammation inthe lungs and increased alveolar permeability, leading to pulmonary edema and consequently, a low oxygen supply orhypoxemia. ARDS is responsible for 1 in 10 admissions to intensive care units, and the mortality rate for patientswith severe ARDS is as high as 46%. Extensive efforts have been devoted to investigating the pathological mechanismsof ARDS to develop new effective clinical strategies. Recent studies have reported that receptor-interacting serine/threonine kinase 1 (RIPK1) is involved in the pathogenesis of ARDS. RIPK1 is a critical mediator of programmed celldeath and inflammation. Growing evidence suggests that RIPK1 plays a role in the pathogenesis of differentinflammatory diseases and serves as a promising pharmaceutical target. This review summarizes and sheds some lighton the recent findings regarding the role of RIPK1 and related molecules in the pathogenesis of ARDS.

In this paper,we derive the frozen Gaussian approximation(FGA)for computing the solution to the Dirac equation in curved space in the semi-classical *** latter equation is used in particular for modeling electronic scattering on strained graphene *** present numerical comparisons of the Dirac solutions on curved and flat spaces,illustrating the focusing effect of graphene surfaces,as well as qualitative comparisons with a tight-binding model.A CPU-time comparison shows that FGA becomes more efficient than an IMEX pseudospectral method when the semiclassical parameter is small.

Plants adjust their development in relation to the availability of nutrient sources. This necessitates signal- ing between root and shoot. Aside from the well-known systemic signaling processes mediated by auxin, cytokinin, and sugars, new pathways involving carotenoid-derived hormones have recently been identified. The auxin-responsive MAX pathway controls shoot branching through the biosynthesis of strigolactone in the roots. The BYPASSI gene affects the production of an as-yet unknown carotenoid-derived substance in roots that promotes shoot development. Novel local and systemic mechanisms that control adaptive root development in response to nitrogen and phosphorus starvation were recently discovered. Notably, the ability of the NITRATE TRANSPORTER 1.1 to transport auxin drew for the first time a functional link between auxin, root development, and nitrate availability in soil. The study of plant response to phos- phorus starvation allowed the identification of a systemic mobile miRNA. Deciphering and integrating these signaling pathways at the whole-plant level provide a new perspective for understanding how plants regulate their development in response to environmental cues.
