The current study aims to do a comparative analysis of the results obtained with two End-Member(EM)grain-size modeling techniques(Analy Size and bas emma) and the Environmental Sensitive Grain-Size(ESGS) modeling for sediment samples collected in the mudbelts of the southern brazilian shelf. The methods were compared using grain-size data from the south brazilian shelf, and the results are discussed here. It is the first time that the concept of ESGS, in its present form, is utilized outside China. The results show that despite its relative ease of use, the ESGS is not fully comparable to the EM analyses, and only two grain-size ESGS classes were recognized as analogous to EMs. The comparison of the Analy Size and bas emma procedures also revealed significant differences between the techniques. A comparative analysis between the two EM techniques revealed advantages in the bas emma, especially in the better correlation of the end-members with the original grain size distribution. The analysis of the geographical distribution of the EM abundances allowed point sources of sandy populations to be recognized as well as the contribution of the Rio de la Plata as a source of silty sediments to be inferred.

bone tissue engineering requires a combination of materials,cells,growth factors and mechanical cues to recapitulate bone *** this study we evaluated hybrid hydrogels for minimally invasive bone formation by combining biomaterials with skeletal stem cells and staged release of growth factors together with *** hydrogels consisting of alginate and decellularized,demineralised bone extracellular matrix(ALG/ECM)were seeded with Stro-1t human bone marrow stromal cells(HbMSCs).Dual combinations of growth factors within staged-release polylactic-co-glycolic acid(PLGA)microparticles were added to hydrogels to mimic,in part,the signalling events in bone regeneration:VEGF,TGF-β_(3),PTHrP(fast release),or bMP-2,vitamin D_(3)(slow release).Mechanotransduction was initiated using magnetic fields to remotely actuate superparamagnetic nanoparticles(MNP)targeted to TREK1 ion *** hydrogels were implanted subcutaneously within mice for 28 days,and evaluated for bone formation using micro-CT and *** hydrogels lacking HbMSCs,growth factors,or MNP became mineralised,and neither growth factors,HbMSCs,nor mechanotransduction increased bone ***,structural differences in the newly-formed bone were influenced by growth *** release of bMP-2 induced thick bone trabeculae and PTHrP or VitD_(3)increased bone ***,fast-release of TGF-β_(3)and VEGF resulted in thin *** reversed the trabecular thinning and increased collagen deposition with PTHrP and VitD_(3).Our findings demonstrate the potential of hybrid ALG/ECM hydrogel–cell–growth factor constructs to repair bone in combination with mechanotransduction for fine-tuning bone *** approach may form a minimally invasive reparative strategy for bone tissue engineering applications.

background: The classic rhizomelic chondrodysplasia punctata (RCDP) phenotype involves a typical facial appearance, cataracts, skeletal dysplasia causing disproportionate somatic growth failure, microcephaly, and severe psychomotor defects. biochemical abnormalities include impaired plasmalogen biosynthesis in all forms of RCDP and accumulation of phytanic acid in RCDP type 1. A subset of patients has a milder clinical and biochemical phenotype, with less severe neurologic impairment and an incomplete deficiency in plasmalogens. The impact of plasmalogen deficiency on neurologic function is severe, causing spasticity and mental defects, but its pathomechanism is still unknown. The authors specifically focused on myelination because myelin is rich in ethanolamine plasmalogens. Objective: To define the neuroimaging characteristics of the genetic peroxisomal disorder RCDP. Methods: Twenty- one MR images of the brain and cervical spine of 11 patients were evaluated and correlated with neurologic and biochemical profiles. Results: No abnormalities on MRI were seen in the patients with a mild phenotype of RCDP, whereas delayed myelination, ventricular enlargement and increased subarachnoidal spaces, supratentorial myelin abnormalities, and cerebellar atrophy were observed in patients with the severe phenotype of both RCDP type 1 and 3. The severity of both the MRI abnormalities and the clinical phenotype is correlated with the plasmalogen level. Conclusions: The severe phenotype of rhizomelic chondrodysplasia punctata (RCDP) is accompanied by a specific pattern of both developmental and regressive MRI abnormalities. Plasmalogen levels seem to play an important role in the pathophysiology of CNS abnormalities in RCDP. Increased phytanic acid appears not to be the cause of cerebellar atrophy.

background Pediatric post coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)condition(PPCC)is a heterogeneous syndrome,which can significantly affect the daily lives of *** study aimed to identify clinically meaningful phenotypes in children with PPCC,to better characterize and treat this *** Participants were children with physician-diagnosed PPCC,referred to the academic hospital Amsterdam UMC in the Netherlands between November 2021 and March *** factors and information on post-COVID symptoms,comorbidities,and impact on daily life were *** clusters were identified using an unsupervised and unbiased approach for mixed data *** Analysis of 111 patients(aged 3–18 years)revealed three distinct clusters within *** 1(n=62,median age=15 years)predominantly consisted of girls(74.2%).These patients suffered relatively more from exercise intolerance,dyspnea,and smell *** 2(n=33,median age=13 years)contained patients with an even gender distribution(51.5%girls).They suffered from relatively more sleep problems,memory loss,gastrointestinal symptoms,and *** 3(n=16,median age=11 years)had a higher proportion of boys(75.0%),suffered relatively more from fever,had significantly fewer symptoms(median of 5 symptoms compared to 8 and 10 for clusters 1 and 2 respectively),and experienced a lower impact on daily *** This study identified three distinct clinical PPCC phenotypes,with variations in sex,age,symptom patterns,and impact on daily *** findings highlight the need for further research to understand the potentially diverse underlying mechanisms contributing to post-COVID symptoms in children.

Importance:Parent-infant closeness and active parent participation in neonatal care are important for parent and infant ***:To give an overview of current neonatal settings and gain an in-depth understanding of facilitators and barriers to parent-infant closeness,zero-separation,in 19 ***:Neonatal intensive care unit(NICU)professionals,representing 45 NICUs from a range of geographic regions in Europe and Canada,were purposefully selected and interviewed June–December *** analysis was conducted to identify,analyze and report patterns(themes)for parent-infant closeness across the entire series of ***:Parent-infant separation during infant and/or maternity care is very common(42/45 units,93%),despite the implementation of family integrated care(FICare)practices,including parent participation in medical rounds(17/45,38%),structured education sessions for parents(16/45,36%)and structured training for healthcare professionals(22/45,49%).NICU professionals encountered four main themes with facilitators and barriers for parent-infant closeness on and between the hospital,unit,staff,and family level:Culture(jointly held characteristics,values,thinking and behaviors about parental presence and participation in the unit),Collaboration(the act of working together between and within different levels),Capacities(resources and policies),andCoaching(education to acquire and transfer knowledge and skills).Interpretation:Implementing parent-infant closeness in the NICU is still challenging for healthcare *** optimization in neonatal care towards zero-separation and parent-infant closeness can be achieved by enforcing the’’four Cs for Closeness’:Culture,Collaboration,Capacities,andCoaching.
