Spinal cord injury rem.ins a m.jor cause of disability in young adults,and beyond acute decom.ression and rehabilitation,there are no pharm.cological treatm.nts to lim.t the progression of injury and optim.ze recovery in this *** the thorough investigation of the com.lem.nt system.in triggering and propagating cerebral neuroinflam.ation,a sim.lar role for com.lem.nt in spinal neuroinflam.ation is a focus of ongoing *** this work,we survey the current literature investigating the role of com.lem.nt in spinal cord injury including the sources of com.lem.nt proteins,triggers of com.lem.nt activation,and role of effector functions in the *** study relevant data dem.nstrating the different triggers of com.lem.nt activation after spinal cord injury including direct binding to cellular debris,and or activation via antibody binding to dam.ge-associated m.lecular *** effector functions of com.lem.nt have been im.licated in spinal cord injury,and we critically evaluate recent studies on the dual role of com.lem.nt anaphylatoxins in spinal cord injury while em.hasizing the lack of pathophysiological understanding of the role of opsonins in spinal cord *** this pathophysiological review,we system.tically review the different translational approaches used in preclinical m.dels of spinal cord injury and discuss the challenges for future translation into hum.n *** review em.hasizes the need for future studies to dissect the roles of different com.lem.nt pathways in the pathology of spinal cord injury,to evaluate the phases of involvem.nt of opsonins and anaphylatoxins,and to study the role of com.lem.nt in white m.tter degeneration and regeneration using translational strategies to supplem.nt genetic m.dels.

This study aim. to analyze rapeseed oil’s effectiveness as a coolant of a high-voltage direct current(HVDC)converter transform.r while com.aring it with m.neral *** em.loyed a num.rical m.del,assisted by Com.utational Fluid Dynam.cs(CFD)tools,to sim.late the convective heat transfer inside a HVDC converter transform.r,which is an oil-directed air forced(ODAF)*** m.del seeks to obtain the tem.erature and velocity fields at the critical points of the fluid *** sim.lation dom.in reproduces a 2D cross-sectional m.del in the center of the *** results show that rapeseed oil requires m.re tim. to gain heat from.the core and windings due to its lower therm.l ***,the average tem.erature of rapeseed and m.neral oils will not significantly differ once the channel tem.erature reaches a stable *** indicates that the rapeseed oil can effectively replace m.neral oil under the sam. heating ***,a slower flow of the rapeseed oil allows the fluid to sm.othly enter the cooling ***,the rapeseed oil cools these channels by pushing the fluid in them.and absorbs heat from.the sources earlier than m.neral *** im.rovem.nt in cooling indicates that rapeseed oil is better than m.neral oil as a coolant and electrical insulating fluid for power transform.rs.

The levels of fluoride airborne particulates em.tted from.welding processes were investigated. They were sam.led with the patented IOm.Sam.ler, developed by J. H Vincent and D. m.rk at the Institute of Occupational m.dicine（IOm., personal inhalable sam.ler for sim.ltaneous collection of the inhalable and respirable size fractions. Ion chrom.tography with conductom.tric detection was used for quantitative analysis. The efficiency of fluoride extraction from.the cellulose filter of the IOm.sam.ler was exam.ned using the standard sam.le of urban air particle m.tter SRm.1648 a. The best results for extraction were obtained when water and the anionic surfactant N-Cetyl-N-N-Ntrim.thylam.onium.brom.de（CTAB） were used in an ultrasonic bath. The lim.ts of detection and quantification for the whole procedure were 8 μg/L and 24 μg/L, respectively The linear range of calibration was 0.01–10 m./L, which corresponds to 0.0001–0.1 m. of fluorides per m. in collection of a 20 L air sam.le. The concentration of fluorides in the respirable fraction of collected air sam.les was in the range of 0.20–1.82 m./m., while the inhalable fraction contained 0.23–1.96 m./m. of fluorides during an eight-hour working day in the welding room.

Sm.ll bowel strictures can be m.ssed by current diagnostic m.thods. The Patency capsule is a new non-endoscopic dissolvable capsule which has as an objective of checking the patency of digestive tract, in a non-invasive m.nner. The available clinical trials have dem.nstrated that the Patency capsule is a good tool for assessm.nt of the functional patency of the sm.ll bowel, and it allows identification of those patients who can safely undergo a capsule endoscopy, despite clinical and radiographic evidence of sm.ll-bowel obstruction. Som. cases of intestinal occlusion have been reported with the Patency capsule, four of them.needed surgery. So, a new capsule with two tim.r plugs (Agile capsule) has been recently developed in order to m.nim.ze the risk of occlusion. This new device stars its dissolution process earlier (30 h after ingestion) and its two tim.r plugs have been designed to begin the disintegration even when the device is blocked in a tight stricture.

The design of underground spaces in urban areas m.st account not only for the current overburden load but also for future surface loads,such as from.construction of high-rise buildings above underground *** saturated ground,the surface load will generate an additional m.chanical response through stress changes and ground displacem.nt,as well as a hydraulic response through pore pressure *** hydro-m.chanical(H-m.changes can severely influence tunnel *** paper exam.nes the effect of surface loading on the H-m.response of a typical horseshoe-shaped tunnel in saturated *** tunnel m.dels were created in the com.uter code Fast Lagrangian Analysis of Continua(FLAC).One m.del represented weak and low perm.ability ground(stiff clay),and the other represented strong and high perm.ability ground(weathered granite).Each of the m.dels was run under two liner perm.abilities:perm.able and *** m.in cases were *** Case 1,the surface load was applied 10 years after tunnel *** Case 2,the surface load was applied after the steady state pore pressure condition was *** sim.lation results show that tunnels with im.erm.able liners experienced the m.st severe influence from.the surface loading,with high pore pressures,large inward displacem.nt around the tunnels,and high bending m.m.nts in the *** addition,the severity of the response increased toward steady *** induced H-m.response was worse for tunnels in clay than for those in ***,the long-term.liner stabilities in Case 1 and Case 2 were sim.lar,indicating that the influence of the length of tim. between when the tunnel was com.leted and when the surface load was applied was *** findings suggest that under surface loading,in addition to the ground strength,tunnel stability in saturated ground is largely influenced by liner perm.ability and the long-term.H-m.response of the ground.

Explicit solution techniques have been widely used in geotechnical engineering for sim.lating the coupled hydro-m.chanical(H-m. interaction of fluid flow and deform.tion induced by structures built above and under saturated ground, i.e. circular footing and deep tunnel. However, the technique is only conditionally stable and requires sm.ll tim. steps, portending its inefficiency for sim.lating large-scale H-m.problem.. To im.rove its efficiency, the unconditionally stable alternating direction explicit(ADE)schem. could be used to solve the flow problem. The standard ADE schem., however, is only m.derately accurate and is restricted to uniform.grids and plane strain flow conditions. This paper aim. to rem.ve these drawbacks by developing a novel high-order ADE schem. capable of solving flow problem. in nonuniform.grids and under axisym.etric conditions. The new schem. is derived by perform.ng a fourthorder finite difference(FD) approxim.tion to the spatial derivatives of the axisym.etric fluid-diffusion equation in a non-uniform.grid configuration. The im.licit Crank-Nicolson technique is then applied to the resulting approxim.tion, and the subsequent equation is split into two alternating direction sweeps,giving rise to a new axisym.etric ADE schem.. The pore pressure solutions from.the new schem. are then sequentially coupled with an existing geom.chanical sim.lator in the com.uter code fast Lagrangian analysis of continua(FLAC). This coupling procedure is called the sequentially-explicit coupling technique based on the fourth-order axisym.etric ADE schem. or SEA-4-AXI. Application of SEA-4-AXI for solving axisym.etric consolidation of a circular footing and of advancing tunnel in deep saturated ground shows that SEA-4-AXI reduces com.uter runtim. up to 42%-50% that of FLAC’s basic schem. without num.rical instability. In addition, it produces high num.rical accuracy of the H-m.solutions with average percentage difference of only 0.5%-1.8%.

AIm. To determ.ne whether IFN-α is the agent that turns a slightly effective treatm.nt (radiochem.therapy) into a potent therapy, we tested IFN-α for its synergistic ***: Eight pancreatic carcinom. cell lines were treated with the single agents and com.inations of *** role of IFN-α regarding a) direct inhibitory effects; b)radio and chem.sensitizing effects; c) anti-angiogenic properties and d) enhancem.nt of im.unogenicity was ***: Our results show that IFN-α has direct inhibitory properties and som. synergistic influence as determ.ned by AnnexinV/PI stain and cell count. IFN-α is also able to prevent the increase in proliferation rate and VEGF secretion of CDDP resistant cells. Having taken the results from.im.unogenicity experim.nts together, we found cells that can be influenced by IFN-α but were less susceptible against T cells. Furtherm.re, high expression of m.C m.lecules, CD118, EGF-R and Fas was predictive for a good ***: In conclusion, IFN-α has direct cytotoxic effects, acts as a radiosensitizer and circum.ents tum.r cell-regrowth after CDDP treatm.nt. These m.chanism. m.y be responsible for the good clinical outcom. of CapRI.
