Aerodynamic Performance and Vibration Analyses of Small Scale Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine with Various Number of Blades

The need to generate power from renewable sources to reduce demand for fossil fuels and the damage of their resulting carbon dioxide emissions is now well understood. Wind is among the most popular and fastest growing sources of alternative energy in the world. It is an inexhaustible, indigenous resource, pollution-free, and available almost any time of the day, especially in coastal regions. As a sustainable energy resource, electrical power generation from the wind is increasingly important in national and international energy policy in response to climate change. Experts predict that, with proper development, wind energy can meet up to 20% of US needs. Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines (HAWTs) are the most popular because of their higher efficiency. The aerodynamic characteristics and vibration of small scale HAWT with various numbers of blade designs have been investigated in this numerical study in order to improve its performance. SolidWorks was used for designing Computer Aided Design (CAD) models, and ANSYS software was used to study the dynamic flow around the turbine. Two, three, and five bladed HAWTs of 87 cm rotor diameter were designed. A HAWT tower of 100 cm long and 6 cm diameter was considered during this study while a shaft of 10.02 cm diameter was chosen. A good choice of airfoils and angle of attack is a key in the designing of a blade of rough surface and maintaining the maximum lift to drag ratio. The S818, S825 and S826 airfoils were used from the root to the tip and 4° critical angle of attack was considered. In this paper, a more appropriate numerical models and an improved method have been adopted in comparable with other models and methods in the literature. The wind flow around the whole wind turbine and static behavior of the HAWT rotor was solved using Moving Reference Frame (MRF) solver. From a harmonized structural map at the scale of a portion of SW Burkina Faso (90 × 80 km2), we targeted prospective zones on the basis of structural criteria and structure-geology relationships. The map was constructed from an aeromagnetic image, and the geology was deduced from old geological maps. The procedure involved extracting the magnetic fabric and deducing the deformation gradients, which led to the identification of shear zones. Analysis and interpretation of the structural geometry of the obtained structural pattern led us to target areas of interference between structures or geology-structures interplays, which are conducive to the deposition of metallic elements. The subsequent overlay of known gold prospects and deposits documented in the region revealed the validity of the predefined prospects. This result reinforces the applicability of the methodology as a first-order regional approach to mineral exploration.

The Outcomes of Pregnancy in Patients with Cirrhosis in a Low-Income Country

Pregnancy in cirrhotic-woman is a rare event [1] [2]. It causes particular risks related to liver disease and its treatments, with maternal and fetal consequences. The largest reported series to date is by Welton’s with 13 cases [3]. In Africa, few cases were reported. The purpose of this work was to report the hepatic and obstetric complications in pregnant women in Burkina Faso, a low-income country. It was a descriptive cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection covering the period from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2023. All the women diagnosed with cirrhosis through clinical basis, biological and imaging arguments associated with a pregnancy confirmed by ultrasound were included. A total of ten women were included in the study. Among them, two were known cirrhotics and were being followed. In the other eight cases, cirrhosis was discovered during pregnancy. Eight women were HBsAg positive and two of them had only the contact marker of hepatitis B virus (anti- HBc antibody). The evolution was, ascitic decompensation in nine cases, digestive hemorrhage due to rupture of esophageal varices in two cases, nine cases of anemia, two cases of ascitic fluid infection and one case of conjunctival jaundice. Two cases of probable hepatocellular carcinoma were noted with one case of extensive portal thrombosis. The evolution was without maternal complications in one case. Regarding fetal and neonatal complications, there were three cases of hypotrophy, one case of prematurity, one case of acute neonatal distress, two cases of fetal death in utero and one case of fetal tachycardia. Four pregnancies had a favorable evolution without any complications. The association of cirrhosis and pregnancy is an uncommon event, and maternal and fetal complications can occur, making this pregnancy a high-risk pregnancy.

Medication Reconciliation at the Admission of the Medical Emergency Unit of Teaching Pediatric Hospital of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso

Introduction and Problem Statement: Many medication errors occur during the community and hospital transition. Indeed, the World Health Organization launched the international “High 5S” project to implement medication reconciliation in healthcare facilities to reduce them and ensure patients a safe, high-quality healthcare pathway. Objective: This study aimed to detect medication errors by reconciling drug treatments and assess the relevance and feasibility of this standardized practice within the Medical Emergency Unit of the Teaching Pediatric Hospital of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso). Methods: Patients whose parents gave their consent at their entrance were enrolled. For each patient, the pharmacy team completed a reconciliation form that included the patient’s usual treatment, which was taken and in progress and received upon admission to the medical emergency unit. Patients’ treatments were reviewed to detect and characterize discrepancies. The data of each form were reported and analyzed using KoboCollect, an Android application. Results: 135 records and 412 medication lines were captured over six weeks. The average time of treatment reconciliation per patient was 57 minutes. One thousand one hundred ninety-eight (1198) intentional discrepancies were detected, of which 6.09% were documented. Seventy-one (71) unintentional discrepancies were collected, including 39 omissions, 24 regimen dosing errors, and 8 pharmaceutical form dosage errors. Forty-nine (49) unintentional discrepancies, or 69.01%, were corrected by formulated pharmaceutical interventions toward physicians. Conclusion: Medical treatment reconciliation during hospital admission is critical because discrepancies can compromise the efficacy and/or safety of the patient’s hospital medication.

Site dependence of surface dislocation nucleation in ceramic nanoparticles

The extremely elevated strength of nanoceramics under compression arises from the necessity to nucleate highly energetic dislocations from the surface,in samples that are too small to contain pre-existing ***,we investigate the site dependence of surface dislocation nucleation in MgO nanocubes using a combination of molecular dynamics simulations,nudgedelastic-band method calculations and rate theory *** an original simulation setup,we obtain a complete mapping of the potential dislocation nucleation sites on the surface of the nanoparticle and find that,already at intermediate temperature,not only nanoparticle corners are favorable nucleation sites,but also the edges and even regions on the side surfaces,while other locations are intrinsically *** are discussed in the context of recent in situ TEM experiments,sheding new lights on the deformation mechanisms happening during ceramic nanopowder compaction and sintering processes.

Conservatory of Kaup-Kupershmidt Equation to the Concept of Fractional Derivative with and without Singular Kernel

Making use of the traditional Caputo derivative and the newly introduced Caputo-Fabrizio deriva- tive with fractional order and no singular kernel, we extent the nonlinear Kaup-Kupershmidt to the span of fractional calculus. In the analysis, different methods of fixed-point theorem together with the concept of piccard L-stability are used, allowing us to present the existence and uniqueness of the exact solution to models with both versions of derivatives. Finally, we present techniques to perform some numerical simulations for both non-linear models and graphical simulations are provided for values of the order α = 1.00; 0.90. Solutions are shown to behave similarly to the standard well-known traveling wave solution of Kaup-Kupershmidt equation.

Durability and microstructure analysis of the road base material prepared from red mud and flue gas desulfurization fly ash

The present study aimed to investigate the durability and microstructure evolution of road base materials(RBM)prepared from red mud and flue gas desulfurization fly *** durability testing showed that the strength of RBM with the blast furnace slag addition of 1wt%,3wt%and 5wt%reached 3.81,4.87,and 5.84 MPa after 5 freezing–thawing(F–T)cycles and reached 5.21,5.75,and 6.98 MPa after 20 weting–drying(W–D)cycles,*** results also indicated that hydration products were continuously formed even during W–D and F–T exposures,resulting in an increase of the strength and durability of *** observed increase of macropores(>1μm)after F–T and W–D exposures suggested that the mechanism of RBM deterioration is pore enlargement due to cracks that develop inside their ***,the F–T exposure showed a greater negative effect on the durability of RBM compared to the W–D *** leaching tests showed that sodium and heavy metals were solidified below the minimum requirement,which indicates that these wastes are suitable for use as a natural material replacement in road base construction.
