Quantification of aflatoxins and health risk assessment through intake of herbal medicine formulations

Aflatoxins(AFs)are frequent contaminants of herbs,which pose a health risk to regular *** study quantified AFs(AFB1,AFB2,AFG1,AFG2,and Total AFs)in 100 of frequently used herbal medicine formulations in Northern Jordan,and assessed the health risk associated with its *** half of the samples had levels lower than the detection limit,while the concentrations of AFB1 and Total AFs were higher than the European limits in 10%and 23%of the collected samples,*** mean average daily dose(ADD)of AFB1 through the consumption of the formulations was 3.32×10^(-6)and ranged between 1.21×10^(-9)and 0.00045 ng/kg bwt/day,while the mean ADD of Total AFs was 6.80×10^(-5)and ranged between 3.21×10^(-9)and 0.0015 ng/kg bwt/*** margin of exposure(MOE)for each medicine herein was far greater than 10,000 as recommended by European Food Safety Authority(EFSA)for carcinogenic and genotoxic *** cancer risk due to life time exposure to AFB1 in herbal medicines was 1.03×10^(-5)(ranged between 4.51×10^(-4)to 1.19×10^(-9)cancers/10^(5) individuals/75 year).The frequent occurrence of AFs in the analyzed samples raised questions on their potential harmful consequences on heavy consumers,and suggested that further official measures could minimize contamination and improve management of the associated cancer risk.

Renal transplant patients receive several immunosuppressive drug regimens that are potentially nephrotoxic for *** creatinine is the standard for monitoring kidney function;however,cystatin C(Cys C)and kidney injury molecule-1(KIM-1)have been found to indicate kidney injury earlier than serum creatinine and provide a better reflection of kidney ***,we assessed Cys C and KIM-1 serum levels in renal transplant patients receiving mycophenolate mofetil,tacrolimus,sirolimus,everolimus,or cyclosporine to evaluate kidney *** used both the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration(CKD-EPI)2021 equation,which is based on creatinine and combined creatinine with Cys C,and the CKD-EPI 2012 equation,which is based on Cys C alone,to estimate glomerular filtration rate(GFR).Then,we assessed the association between serum KIM-1 and GFR<90 mL per minute per 1.73 *** observed significantly higher serum Cys C levels in patients with the elevated serum creatinine,compared with those with normal serum *** estimated GFRs based on creatinine were significantly higher than those based on the other equations,while a significant positive correlation was observed among all *** KIM-1 levels were negatively correlated with the estimated GFRs by the CKD-EPI Cys C and the combined creatinine with Cys C equations.A serum KIM-1 level above 0.71 ng/mL is likely to indicate GFR<90 mL per minute per 1.73 *** observed a significant correlation between serum creatinine and Cys C in our renal transplant ***,serum KIM-1 may be used to monitor renal function when using potentially nephrotoxic drugs in renal transplants.

Coronary Artery Anomalies Detected by Multi-Detector Computed Tomography: A Single Centre Experience

Background: Coronary artery anomalies (CAA) prevalence represents less than 1% of congenital heart diseases. It includes anomalies in origin, course, and termination. Its detection has been easier with advances in imaging techniques using multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT). MDCT helps not only detection of the anomalous origin, but it allows delineation of the course and termination of the arteries, differentiation between benign and malignant courses, and guiding therapeutic interventions. Results: There were consecutive patients with a low-to-intermediate probability of coronary artery disease scanned with 128 MDCT. Each patient underwent a non-contrast prospective gating acquisition for coronary calcium scoring followed by contrast-enhanced helical retrospective gated scans for the detection of coronary artery origin, course, termination, and detection of concomitant atherosclerosis. We scanned 1000 patients with a mean age of 57.5 ± 8.3, and 68% were males. Thirty-two anomalies were noted (3.2%) including;nineteen (1.9%) anomalous origin from the opposite sinus, three (0.3%) anomalous left coronary arteries from the pulmonary artery (ALCAPA), one (0.1%) super dominant left anterior descending artery (LAD) giving origin to the posterior descending artery (PDA), three single coronary arteries (0.3%)in which the left main (LM) and right coronary arteries were originating with a common stem from the right coronary sinus (RCS)and the LM took a pre-pulmonic course. Along with six (0.6%) dual LAD including five (0.5%) patients with type I (short LAD and long diagonal), there was one (0.1%) type 4 with an extra LAD originating from the RCS with a pre-pulmonic course. Conclusions: MDCT allows easy detection of coronary anomalies with high spatial resolution and overcomes limitations in conventional invasive coronary angiography. The four isolates solid complexes:[La(RHC)(NO_(3))_(2)]·3H_(2)O,[Nd(RHC)(NO_(3))_(2)]·4H_(2)O,[Eu(RHC)(NO_(3))_(2)]·2H_(2)O,and[Ce(RHC)(NO_(3))_(2)]·5H_(2)O that obtained by the reaction of the nitrate salts of the Ce(Ⅲ),Eu(Ⅲ),Nd(Ⅲ)and La(Ⅲ)ions and rhodamie C(RHC)ligand were interpretative using elemental analysis(C,H and N),molar conductivity,infrared,electronic,fluorescence and 1H-NMR spectra to achieve the speculated suitable *** low molar conductance values of the synthesized RHC complexes concluded the non-electrolytic *** infrared spectra recorded the absence of stretching vibrationν(OH)of the—COOH and presence of two new vibration bands at 1597~1601 and 1383~1399 cm^(-1)which were assigned toνas(COO-)andνs(COO-).The difference between them revealed that the carboxylate group acts as a bidentate ligand.1HNMR spectra of Europium and lanthanum(Ⅲ)complexes were supported the FTIR results based on the absent of proton of the carboxylic ***,the microanalytical and spectroscopic results deduced that RHC acts as a monobasic bidentate ligand,and coordinated to the central metal(Ⅲ)ions via the two oxygen atoms of deprotonated carboxylic *** studies were performed on the metal complexes of Ce^(3+),Tb^(3+),Th^(4+),Gd^(3+)and La^(3+),that referred a quenching in the fluorescene intensity of rhodamine C in the aqueous state after *** antimicrobial assessment against some kind of bacteria and fungi were also checked and recorded enhancement in case of their complexes.

Renal cysts in pediatric patients are uncommon lesion. A modified Bosniak classification system for renal cysts based on US has been developed to evaluate pediatric renal cysts to identify the simple cyst or cystic tumour. Nevertheless, it is not widely used. In this retrospective study, all incidentally detected renal cysts by ultrasound performed in children and the reproducibility of modified Bosniak classification to guide the radiological and clinical follow up.
