Immunohistochemical measurement and expression of Mcl-1 in infertile testes

The diagnosis of azoospermia represents a major challenge to andrologists as this condition may occur despite normal spermatogenesis and genital tracts. Myeloid cell leukemia-1 （Mcl-1） is a member of the Bcl-2 family of proteins involved in regulation of apoptosis in various cell types. This study aimed to investigate the immunohistochemical expression of McI-1 in testieular biopsies of subjects with azoospermia. Eighty-six cases with azoospermia were obtained from 509 infertile patients admitted to the Andrology Unit of the Zagazig University Hospitals from January 2010 to December 2011. Biopsies were diagnosed and classified using H＆E-stained slide sections. The specimens were subjected to immunohistochemical staining for Mcl-1 and examined through light microscopy. Forty-five cases of maturation arrest （25 at spermatids and 20 at the spermatocytes）, 31 cases of hypospermatogenesis （20 moderate and 11 severe）, 5 cases of Sertoli cell-only syndrome, 2 cases of basement membrane hyalinization, and 1 case of tubular and peritubular sclerosis were observed. Normal spermatogenesis was detected in 2 cases. A strong positive immunoreaction in Leydig cells was observed among all investigated specimens. A moderate reaction was detected in spermatocytes and spermatozoa in cases of normal spermatogenesis and hypospermatogenesis, but a negative reaction was detected in cases of maturation arrest and germ cell aplasia. Apoptosis was found to be associated with decreased rate of spermatogenesis. High apoptosis rates may result in azoospermia, which can occur despite normal spermatogenesis and absence of duct obstruction.

Visual Lip-Reading for Quranic Arabic Alphabets and Words Using Deep Learning

The continuing advances in deep learning have paved the way for several challenging *** such idea is visual lip-reading,which has recently drawn many research ***-reading,often referred to as visual speech recognition,is the ability to understand and predict spoken speech based solely on lip movements without using *** to the lack of research studies on visual speech recognition for the Arabic language in general,and its absence in the Quranic research,this research aims to fill this *** paper introduces a new publicly available Arabic lip-reading dataset containing 10490 videos captured from multiple viewpoints and comprising data samples at the letter level(i.e.,single letters(single alphabets)and Quranic disjoined letters)and in the word level based on the content and context of the book Al-Qaida *** research uses visual speech recognition to recognize spoken Arabic letters(Arabic alphabets),Quranic disjoined letters,and Quranic words,mainly phonetic as they are recited in the Holy Quran according to Quranic study aid entitled Al-Qaida *** study could further validate the correctness of pronunciation and,subsequently,assist people in correctly reciting ***,a detailed description of the created dataset and its construction methodology is *** new dataset is used to train an effective pre-trained deep learning CNN model throughout transfer learning for lip-reading,achieving the accuracies of 83.3%,80.5%,and 77.5%on words,disjoined letters,and single letters,respectively,where an extended analysis of the results is ***,the experimental outcomes,different research aspects,and dataset collection consistency and challenges are discussed and concluded with several new promising trends for future work.

Ensemble machine learning framework for daylight modelling of various building layouts

The application of machine learning(ML)modelling in daylight prediction has been a promising approach for reliable and effective visual comfort *** many advancements have been made,no standardized ML modelling framework exists in daylight *** this study,625 different building layouts were generated to model useful daylight illuminance(UDI).Two state-of-the-art ML algorithms,eXtreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost)and random forest(RF),were employed to analyze UDI in four categories:UDI-f(fell short),UDI-s(supplementary),UDI-a(autonomous),and UDI-e(exceeded).A feature(internal finish)was introduced to the framework to better reflect real-world *** results show that XGBoost models predict UDI with a maximum accuracy of R^(2)=*** to RF,the XGBoost ML models can significantly reduce prediction *** research directions have been specified to advance the proposed framework by introducing new features and exploring new ML architectures to standardize ML applications in daylight prediction.

Advances in the management of infertility in men with spinal cord injury

Couples with a spinal cord injured male partner require assisted ejaculation techniques to collect semen that can then be further used in various assisted reproductive technology methods to achieve a pregnancy. The majority of men sustaining a spinal cord injury regardless of the cause or the level of injury cannot ejaculate during sexual intercourse. Only a small minority can ejaculate by masturbation. Penile vibratory stimulation and electroejaculation are the two most common methods used to retrieve sperm. Other techniques such as prostatic massage and the adjunct application of other medications can be used, but the results are inconsistent. Surgical sperm retrieval should be considered as a last resort if all other methods fail. Special attention must be paid to patients with T6 and rostral levels of injury due to the risk of autonomic dysreflexia resulting from stimulation below the level of injury. Bladder preparation should be performed before stimulation if retrograde ejaculation is anticipated. Erectile dysfunction is ubiquitous in the spinal cord injured population but is usually easily managed and does not pose a barrier to semen retrieval in these men. Semen analysis parameters of men with spinal cord injury are unique for this population regardless of the method of retrieval, generally presenting as normal sperm concentration but abnormally low sperm motility and viability. When sperm retrieval is desired in this population, emphasis should be placed on initially trying the simple methods of penile vibratory stimulation or electroejaculation before resorting to more advanced and invasive surgical procedures.

Electroencephalogram (EEG) Brain Signals to Detect Alcoholism Based on Deep Learning

The detection of alcoholism is of great importance due to its effects on individuals and *** alcoholism detection system(AADS)based on electroencephalogram(EEG)signals is effective,but the design of a robust AADS is a challenging ***’current designs are based on conventional,hand-engineered methods and restricted *** by the excellent deep learning(DL)success in many recognition tasks,we implement an AAD system based on EEG signals using DL.A DL model requires huge number of learnable parameters and also needs a large dataset of EEG signals for training which is not easy to obtain for the AAD *** order to solve this problem,we propose a multi-channel Pyramidal neural convolutional(MP-CNN)network that requires a less number of learnable *** the deep CNN model,we build an AAD system to detect from EEG signal segments whether the subject is alcoholic or *** validate the robustness and effectiveness of proposed AADS using KDD,a benchmark dataset for alcoholism detection *** order to find the brain region that contributes significant role in AAD,we investigated the effects of selected 19 EEG channels(SC-19),those from the whole brain(ALL-61),and 05 brain regions,i.e.,TEMP,OCCIP,CENT,FRONT,and *** results show that SC-19 contributes significant role in AAD with the accuracy of 100%.The comparison reveals that the state-of-the-art systems are outperformed by the *** proposed AADS will be useful in medical diagnosis research and health care systems.

Prussian blue and its analogues as advanced supercapacitor electrodes

Remarkable attention has been directed to Prussian blue(PB) and its analogues(PBA) as one of the most widely used metal-organic frameworks(MOFs) especially in the field of energy storage devices due to their fabulous features such as 3D open framework, high surface area, controllable distribution of pores and the low cost. Nevertheless, their depressed conductivity causes some insulation when being used as an electrode for supercapacitors leading to be restricted in further applications particularly the electronics. To the best of our knowledge, our review aimed primarily to give a total picture of the research that was done on utilizing PB and PBA for fabricating the electrodes of supercapacitor, studying their synthesis approaches in addition to the hybridization with other materials such as graphene, CNTs and conducting polymer. It also addresses the transformation of PB or PBA into other interesting nanostructures such as oxides, sulfides, and bicomponent of graphitic carbon nitride/metal oxides, as well. Furthermore,It exhibits various avenues for overcoming their disadvantages of bad cycle life, retention rate and not achieving the desired values of energy/power densities opening the door for enlarging the number of researches on their application as supercapacitors.

Analytical Solution for Peristaltic Transport of Viscous Nanofluid in an Asymmetric Channel with Full Slip and Convective Conditions

The peristaltic ttow of nanofluids is a relatively new area of research. Scientists are of the opinion that the no-slip conditions at the boundaries are no longer valid and consequently, the first and the second order slip conditions should be addressed. In this paper, the effects of slip conditions and the convective boundary conditions at the boundary walls on the peristaltic flow of a viscous nanofluid are investigated for. Also, the exact analytical solutions are obtained for the model. The obtained results are presented through graphs and discussed. The results reveal that the two slip parameters have strong effects on the temperature and the nanoparticles volume fraction profiles. Moreover, it has been seen that the temperature and nanoparticles volume fraction profiles attain certain values when the first slip condition exceeds a specified value. However, no limit value for the second slip parameter has been detected. Further, the effects of the various emerging parameters on the flow and heat transfer characteristics have been presented.

Prevention of wing rock motion for lightly damped aircraft in lateral-directional dynamics

Based on the Ricatti technique, the methodology for preventing the limit cycle accomplished by adding a control function to the original equation of wing rock motion is presented in this paper. To analyze the state variables of the system, the complete set of nonlinear equations of motion including an effective linear control function was solved for A-4D and Mig-21 Aircraft. The roll angle responding to the linear control function for both models was estimated when the systems were tested under different damping ratios. The numerical re- suits show that a linear control function including both the roll attitude and the roll rate is sufficient to suppress the wing rock motion with an acceptable error in desired time. A good agreement between the numerical results and the published work is obtained for the limit cycle oscillation existence at different damping ratios.

Analysis of the effect of passive measures on the energy consumption and zero-energy prospects of residential buildings in Pakistan

Climate change can adversely impact the thermal comfort and energy efficiency of the buildings stock. The South Asian countries are particularly vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change specially in the form of rising temperatures and increasing frequency of heat waves. The passive building design measures can be useful in mitigating and adapting to the climate change by increasing energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In this study various passive climate change adaptation measures (PCAMs) have been used individually and in form of combinations in order to analyze their impact on the energy efficacy of residential buildings in Pakistan. It has been found that the natural ventilation and front green wall are the most efficient options for reducing the overall energy consumption. By implementation of these PCAMs, cooling demand can be decreased by 27.75% while heating demand can be reduced by 35%. Secondly, the prospect of net zero-energy building and reduced CO2 emissions are also studied. It has been shown that building can achieve net-zero energy on an annual basis at every orientation and it can attain the status of nearly zero-energy building on a monthly basis. Moreover, emitted CO2 can be reduced by 31% by using the renewable energy.

In this paper, the fractional auxiliary sub-equation expansion method is proposed to solve nonlinear fractional differential equations. To illustrate the effectiveness of the method, we discuss the space-time fractional Kd V equation, the space-time fractional RLW equation, the space-time fractional Boussinesq equation, and the（3＋1）-spacetime fractional ZK equation. The solutions are expressed in terms of fractional hyperbolic and fractional trigonometric functions. These solutions are useful to understand the mechanisms of the complicated nonlinear physical phenomena and fractional differential equations. Among these solutions, some are found for the first time. The analytical solution of homogenous linear FDEs with constant coefficients are obtained by using the series and the Mittag–Leffler function methods. The obtained results recover the well-know solutions when α = 1.
