Polymer blends of cold wa.er soluble sta.ches (a.ylose or a.ylopectin soluble sta.ch) with gela.in were prepa.ed using solvent ca.ting method. The solid sta.e miscibility a.d polymer-polymer intera.tions between the constituent polymers were studied by fourier tra.sforms infra.ed spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ra. diffra.tion (XRD), differentia. sca.ning ca.orirmetry (DSC), light optica. microscopy (OP) a.d sca.ning electron microscopy (SEM), wherea. the therma. sta.ility of the blends wa. studied by thermogra.imetric a.a.ysis (TGa.. Furthermore, tensile a.d wa.er va.or ba.rier properties of the blends were a.sessed. The obta.ned results exhibited tha. gela.in wa. more miscible with a.ylose soluble sta.ch tha. with a.ylopectin soluble sta.ch. Moreover, enha.cing mecha.ica. a.d wa.er ba.rier properties of a.ylose soluble sta.ch/gela.in blends were more pronounced tha. those of a.ylopectin soluble sta.ch/gela.in blends. Genera.ly, tensile strength (TS) a.d Elonga.ion percenta.e (E) of the blend films were found to be gra.ua.ly increa.ed with increa.ing the proportion of gela.in. Nevertheless, increa.ing sta.ch proportion wa. in fa.or of decrea.ing wa.er va.or permea.ility (WVP). a. equa. proportions of sta.ch a.d gela.in (1:1), TS wa. ra.sed up to 8.69 MPa.for a.ylose soluble sta.ch/gela.in blend films while it ra.sed up to 4.96 MPa.for a.ylopectin soluble sta.ch/gela.in blend films, a.d so on E wa. increa.ed to its ma.imum by ~179.6% for soluble a.ylose sta.ch/gela.in blends while it wa. increa.ed to ~114.5% for a.ylopectin soluble sta.ch/gela.in blends. On the other ha.d, WVP wa. significa.tly decrea.ed to be 6.46 a.d 12.09 g·mm/m2·da.·kPa.for blends of a.ylose a.d a.ylopectin soluble?sta.ches, respectively.

a.M To a.a.yze the incidence, risk fa.tors, prevention, trea.ment a.d outcome of sma.l for size syndrome(SFSS) a.ter living donor liver tra.spla.ta.ion(LDLT). METHODS Through-out more tha. 10 yea.s: During the period from a.ril 2003 to the end of 2013, 174 a.ult-to-a.ults LDLT(a.a.DLT) ha. been performed a. Na.iona. Liver Institute, Menoufiya.University, Shibin Elkoom, Egypt. We collected the da.a.of those pa.ients to do this cohort study tha. is a.single-institution retrospective a.a.ysis of a.prospectively collected da.a.a.e a.a.yzing the incidence, risk fa.tors, prevention, trea.ment a.d outcome of SFSS in a.period sta.ted from the end of 2013 to the end of 2015. The media. period of follow-up rea.hed 40.50 m, ra.ge(0-144 m). RESULTS SFSS wa. dia.nosed in 20(11.5%) of our recipients. While extra.sma.l gra.t [sma.l for size gra.t(SFSG)], porta. hypertension, stea.osis a.d left lobe gra.t were significa.t predictors of SFSS in univa.ia.e a.a.ysis(P = 0.00, 0.04, 0.03, a.d 0.00 respectively); gra.t size wa. the only independent predictor of SFSS on multiva.ia.e a.a.ysis(P = 0.03). On the other ha.d, there wa. lower incidence of SFSS in pa.ients with SFSG who underwent splenectomy [4/10(40%) SFSS vs 3/7(42.9%) no SFSS] but without sta.istica. significa.ce, However, there wa. none significa.t lower incidence of the syndrome in pa.ients with right lobe(RL) gra.t when dra.na.e of the right a.terior a.d/or posterior liver sectors by middle hepa.ic vein, V5, V8, a.d/or right inferior vein wa. done [4/10(28.6%) SFSS vs 52/152(34.2%) no SFSS]. The 6-mo, 1-, 3-, 5-, 7-a.d 10-yea. surviva. in pa.ients with SFSS were 30%, 30%, 25%, 25%, 25% a.d 25% respectively, while, the 6-mo, 1-, 3-, 5-, 7-a.d 10-yea. surviva. in pa.ients without SFSS were 70.1%, 65.6%, 61.7%, 61%, 59.7%, a.d 59.7% respectively, with sta.istica. significa.t difference(P = 0.00). CONCLUSION SFSG is the independent a.d ma.n fa.tor for occurrence of SFSS a.ter a.a.DLT lea.ing to poor outcome. However, the ma.a

Objective: Study the HBS1L-MYB (rs4895441 and rs9376090) genetic polymorphisms in Egyptian patients with β-thalassemia major and sickle cell disease and its relation to Hb F and severity of the disease. Background: Hb F is a predominant modulator for the severity of β-thalassemia major & sickle cell disease. Genetic polymorphism in the intergenic region (HBS1L-MYB) between GTP-binding elongation factor HBS1L and myeloblastosis oncogene MYB on chromosome 6q is associated with high fetal hemoglobin levels. Subjects and Methods: 150 subjects were included in this study. For all studied groups: Complete blood picture and serum ferritin were evaluated. For patients, hemoglobin variants were separated by High-performance liquid chromatography. Genotyping of HBS1L-MYB (rs4895441 & rs9376090) was evaluated by real-time polymerase chain reaction technique using TaqMan probe. Results: AG, CT genotypes, and G, C alleles of HBS1L-MYB (rs4895441 & rs9376090) were significantly high in sickle cell patients [OR (3.400);95% C.I (1.482 - 7.799)], (p = 0.003) & [OR (4.522);95%a.> C.I (1.854 - 11.029)], (p = 0.001) respectively.
