BACKGROUND No effective treatment guarantees full recovery from osteoarthritis(OA),and few therapies have *** To determine if bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMMSCs)and hyaluronic acid(HA)treat ankle OA in Wistar *** BMMSCs were characterized using flow cytometry with detection of surface markers[cluster of differentiation 90(CD90),CD105,CD34,and CD45].Fifty male Wistar rats were divided into five groups of 10 rats each:Group I,saline into the right tibiotarsal joint for 2 days;Group II,monosodium iodate(MIA)into the same joint;Groups III,MIA+BMMSCs;Group IV,MIA+HA;and Group V,MIA+BMMSCs+***(1×106 cells/rat),HA(75μg/rat),and BMMSCs(1×106 cells/rat)alongside HA(75μg/rat)were injected intra-articularly into the tibiotarsal joint of the right hind leg at the end of weeks 2,3,and 4 after the MIA *** The elevated right hind leg circumference values in the paw and arthritis clinical score of osteoarthritic rats were significantly ameliorated at weeks 4,5,and *** peroxide significantly increased in the serum of osteoarthritic rats,whereas reduced serum glutathione and glutathione transferase levels were *** and HA significantly improved *** significantly elevated ankle matrix metalloproteinase 13(MMP-13)mRNA and transforming growth factor beta 1(TGF-β1)protein expression,and tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α)and interleukin-17(IL-17)serum levels in osteoarthritic rats were significantly downregulated by BMMSCs and *** effects of BMMSCs and HA on serum TNF-αand IL-17 were more potent than their *** lowered serum IL-4 levels in osteoarthritic rats were significantly upregulated by BMMSCs and ***,BMMSCs and HA caused a steady decrease in joint injury and cartilage *** BMMSCs and/or HA have anti-arthritic effects mediated by antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects on MIAinduced ***-13 and TGF-β1 expression improves BMMSCs and/or HA effects on OA in Wistar rats.

Numerical analysis of frictional behavior of dense gas-solid systems

Dense gas-solid flows show significantly higher stresses compared with dilute flows, mainly attributable to particle-particle friction in dense particle flows. Several models developed have considered particle-particle friction; however, they generally underestimate its effect in dense regions of the gas-solid system, leading to unrealistic predictions in their flow patterns. Recently, several attempts have been made to formulate such flows and the impact of particle-particle friction on predicting flow patterns based on modified frictional viscosity models by including effects of bulk density changes on frictional pressure of the solid phase. The solid-wall boundary is also expected to have considerable effect on friction because particulate phases generally slip over the solid surface that directly affects particle-particle frictional forces. Polydispersity of the solid phase also leads to higher friction between particles as more particles have sustained contact in polydispersed systems. Their effects were investi- gated by performing CFD simulations of particle settlement to calculate the slope angle of resting material of non-cohesive particles as they settle on a solid surface. This slope angle is directly affected by frictional forces and may be a reasonably good measure of frictional forces between particles. The calculated slope angle, as a measure of frictional forces inside the system are compared with experimental values of this slope angle as well as simulation results from the literature.

Period equations provided by seismic codes are generally derived by calibration with recorded period data of buildings located in high seismicity *** period-equations do not account for either the design level of seismicity or the permissible limit of lateral *** designed under high level of seismicity are expected to display higher stiffness and shorter periods than buildings designed under low-to-medium seismicity *** addition,buildings designed with high level of permissible lateral-drift are expected to display lower stiffness and longer periods than buildings designed with low level of permissible *** this study,the theoretical fundamental-periods of an ensemble of regular reinforced concrete(RC)and steel moment-resisting frame(MRF)buildings having 3-,6-,9-and 12-stories and designed with various levels of seismicity and permissible lateral-drift are *** obtained outcome indicates the sensitivity of the MRF theoretical-periods to the design seismicity and the permissible *** results also indicate the need for modifying the current period equations to realistically account for the variations in the design seismicity and allowable lateral-drift of MRF buildings.

A document layout can be more informative than merely a document’s visual and structural ***,document layout analysis(DLA)is considered a necessary prerequisite for advanced processing and detailed document image analysis to be further used in several applications and different *** research extends the traditional approaches of DLA and introduces the concept of semantic document layout analysis(SDLA)by proposing a novel framework for semantic layout analysis and characterization of handwritten *** proposed SDLA approach enables the derivation of implicit information and semantic characteristics,which can be effectively utilized in dozens of practical applications for various purposes,in a way bridging the semantic gap and providingmore understandable high-level document image analysis and more invariant characterization via absolute and relative *** approach is validated and evaluated on a large dataset ofArabic handwrittenmanuscripts comprising complex *** experimental work shows promising results in terms of accurate and effective semantic characteristic-based clustering and retrieval of handwritten *** also indicates the expected efficacy of using the capabilities of the proposed approach in automating and facilitating many functional,reallife tasks such as effort estimation and pricing of transcription or typing of such complex manuscripts.

An experimental investigation on the effect of grain size on oil-well sand production

Sand production in oil wells is closely related to the mechanical behavior and petrographical properties of sandstones reservoir. Grain size is one of the main parameters controlling the phenomenon, which is studied in this paper. Large-scale hollow cylindrical synthetic samples with the same rock strength but different grain sizes were tested by an experimental setup in the laboratory. Different external stresses and fluid flow rates were applied to the samples and produced sand was measured continuously. Results show two different trends between sanding stress level and grain size. For the samples with finer grain size （D50〈0.3 mm）, the required confining stress for different sanding levels decreased with an increase in the grain size and for the samples with the coarser grains （D50〉0.3 mm） the required confining stress for different sanding levels dramatically increased with an increase in the grain size. Those two different trends were discussed and explained. The first one was production of individual grains and the second was bigger chunks in the slab form. In samples with large grains, plastic zones around hole were changed to a completely loose zone including interlocked individual grains or cluster of grains. In these samples after breakage of these interlocked zones sand was produced in the form of individual grains and clusters. Contrary to this, for samples with smaller grain size, shear bands were formed around the plastified hole and sand was produced in the form of big chunks or slabs.

Production,processing and transportation of natural gases can be significantly affected by clathrate *** the gas analysis is crucial to predict the right conditions for hydrate ***,Katz gas gravity method can be used for initial estimation of hydrate formation temperature （HFT） under the circumstances of indeterminate gas *** far several correlations have been proposed for gas gravity method,in which the most accurate and reliable one has belonged to Bahadori and *** main objective of this study is to present a simple and yet accurate correlation for fast prediction of sweet natural gases HFT based on the fit to Katz gravity *** reviewing the error analysis results,one can discover that the new proposed correlation has the best estimation capability among the widely accepted existing correlations within the investigated range.

Controlled islanding is an important approach to prevent instability in power *** this paper,a novel approach is proposed for power system separation,which consists of two steps:1)Finding multiple islanding scenarios;2)Choosing the best option to obtain the most desirable *** the first step,different islanding solutions are determined by a proposed hierarchical clustering *** this algorithm,which is based on a minimum active power flow disruption objective function,the generator coherency constraints are considered in the clustering *** the second step,the best separation scenario is chosen based on an arbitrary objective ***,in this paper,the amount of load shedding and the voltage profile deviation after separation are considered as the final criteria to select the best solution among available *** so doing,the degree of load importance is also taken into *** proposed two-step method is applied on an IEEE 9-bus test system and it is also evaluated on an IEEE 39-bus *** simulation results on the IEEE 39-bus grid and the comparative analysis with a state-of-the-art method confirm that the final islanding solution is more optimized based on the secondary criteria,which have not been addressed in the existing ***,the proposed method is computationally efficient and can be employed in real-scale power grids.
