A tribo-chemical view on astringency of plant-based food substances

This paper celebrates Professor Yongqi GAO's significant achievement in the field of interdisciplinary studies within the context of his final research project Arctic Climate Predictions: Pathways to Resilient Sustainable Societies-ARCPATh(https://***/en/projects/finished-projects/arcpath). The disciplines represented in the project are related to climatology, anthropology, marine biology, economics, and the broad spectrum of social-ecological studies. Team members were drawn from the Nordic countries, Russia, China, the United States, and Canada. The project was transdisciplinary as well as interdisciplinary as it included collaboration with local knowledge holders. ARCPATh made significant contributions to Arctic research through an improved understanding of the mechanisms that drive climate variability in the Arctic. In tandem with this research, a combination of historical investigations and social, economic, and marine biological fieldwork was carried out for the project study areas of Iceland, Greenland, Norway, and the surrounding seas, with a focus on the joint use of ocean and sea-ice data as well as social-ecological drivers. ARCPATh was able to provide an improved framework for predicting the near-term variation of Arctic climate on spatial scales relevant to society, as well as evaluating possible related changes in socioeconomic realms. In summary, through the integration of information from several different disciplines and research approaches, ARCPATh served to create new and valuable knowledge on crucial issues, thus providing new pathways to action for Arctic communities.

The mammalian carboxylesterase 1(Ces1/CES1)family comprises several enzymes that hydrolyze many xenobiotic chemicals and endogenous *** investigate the pharmacological and physiological roles of Ces1/CES1,we generated Ces1 cluster knockout(Ces1^(-/-))mice,and a hepatic human CES1 transgenic model in the Ces1^(-/-)background(TgCES1).Ces1^(-/-)mice displayed profoundly decreased conversion of the anticancer prodrug irinotecan to SN-38 in plasma and ***1 mice exhibited enhanced metabolism of irinotecan to SN-38 in liver and ***1 and hCES1 activity increased irinotecan toxicity,likely by enhancing the formation of pharmacodynamically active ***1^(-/-)mice also showed markedly increased capecitabine plasma exposure,which was moderately decreased in TgCES1 ***1^(-/-)mice were overweight with increased adipose tissue,white adipose tissue inflammation(in males),a higher lipid load in brown adipose tissue,and impaired blood glucose tolerance(in males).These phenotypes were mostly reversed in TgCES1 ***1 mice displayed increased triglyceride secretion from liver to plasma,together with higher triglyceride levels in the male *** results indicate that the carboxylesterase 1 family plays essential roles in drug and lipid metabolism and ***1^(-/-)and TgCES1 mice will provide excellent tools for further study of the in vivo functions of Ces1/CES1 enzymes.

Recently, we reported that the novel mitochondrial RNA editing factor SLO2 is essential for mitochondrialelectron transport, and vital for plant growth through regulation of carbon and energy metabolism. here, we show thatmutation in SL02 causes hypersensitivity to ABA and insensitivity to ethylene, suggesting a link with stress ***, slo2 mutants are hypersensitive to salt and osmotic stress during the germination stage, while adult plantsshow increased drought and salt tolerance. Moreover, slo2 mutants are more susceptible to Botrytis cinerea *** increased expression of nuclear-encoded stress-responsive genes, as well as mitochondrial-encoded NAD genes ofcomplex I and genes of the alternative respiratory pathway, was observed in slo2 mutants, further enhanced by ABAtreatment. In addition, h202 accumulation and altered amino acid levels were recorded in slo2 mutants. We conclude thatSLO2 is required for plant sensitivity to ABA, ethylene, biotic, and abiotic stress. Although two stress-related RNA editingfactors were reported very recently, this study demonstrates a unique role of SLO2, and further supports a link betweenmitochondrial RNA editing events and stress response.

FSPM-P： towards a general functional-structural plant model for robust and comprehensive model development

In the last decade, functional-structural plant modelling （FSPM） has become a more widely accepted paradigm in crop and tree production, as 3D models for the most important crops have been proposed. Given the wider portfolio of available models, it is now appropriate to enter the next level in FSPM development, by introducing more efficient methods for model development. This includes the consideration of model reuse （by modularisafion）, combination and comparison, and the enhancement of existing mod- els. To facilitate this process, standards for design and communication need to be defined and established. We present a first step towards an efficient and general, i.e., not speciesspecific FSPM, presently restricted to annual or bi-annual plants, but with the potential for extension and further generalization. Model structure is hierarchical and object-oriented, with plant organs being the base-level objects and plant individual and canopy the higher-level objects. Modules for the majority of physiological processes are incorporated, more than in other platforms that have a similar aim （e.g., photosynthesis, organ formation and growth）. Simulation runs with several general parameter sets adopted from the literature show that the present prototype was able to reproduce a plausible output range for different crops （rapeseed, barley, etc.） in terms of both the dynamics and final values （at harvest time） of model state variables such as assimilate production, organ biomass, leaf area and architecture.

Beta Gyres in Global Analysis Fields

A three-component decomposition is applied to global analysis data to show the existence of a beta gyre, which causes Tropical Cyclone （TC） to drift from a large-scale environmental steering current. Analyses from the Global Data Assimilation and Prediction System （GDAPS） of the Korea Meteorological Adminis- tration （KMA）, the Global Forecast System （GFS） of NCEP, and the Navy Operational Global Atmospheric Prediction System （NogAPS） are used in this study. The structure of the beta gyre obtained in our analyses is in good agreement with the theoretical structure, with a cyclonic circulation to the southwest of the TC center, an anticyclonic circulation to the northeast, and a ventilation flow directed northwestward near the center. The circulation of the beta gyre is strongest at the 850-hPa level where the cyclonically swirling primary circulation is strongest, and decreases with height, in a pyramid shape similar to the primary circulation. The individual structure of the beta gyre is case- and model-dependent. At a certain analysis time, one model may clearly reveal a well-defined beta gyre, but the other models may not. Within one model, the beta gyre may be well defined at some analysis times, but not at other times. The structure of the beta gyre in the analysis field is determined by the nature of the vortex initialization scheme and the model behavior during the 6-h forecast in the operational data assimilation cycle.

Exercise affects muscle metabolism and composition in the untrained muscles. The proteome of muscle tissue will be affected by exercise and resting. This is of economic importance for pork quality where transportation relates to exercise of untrained muscles. Rest reverses exercise effects. The objective of this research was to develop potential protein biomarkers that predict the optimal resting time after exercise related to optimal pork quality. Ten litters of four female pigs were within litter allocated to the four treatment groups： exercise by running on a treadmill for 27 minutes followed by rest for 0, 1, or 3 h; control pigs without exercise. Proteome profiles and biochemical traits measuring energy metabolism and meat quality traits expected to be related to exercise were determined in the Longissimus and the Biceps femoris of the pigs. The results indicated associations between protein abundances in muscles and exercise, resting, and biochemical traits.

Background: Senile lentigo (SL) is a pigmentation disorder that occurs predominantly on the dorsa of the hands, the forearms and the face; its incidence increases with age. histological hallmarks of SL lesions are hyperpigmentation of the epidermis and elongation of the epidermal rete ridges. Various factors such as α -melanocyte-stimulating hormone, endothelin-1 or stem cell factor are involved in the onset and maintenance of the increased pigmentation. Alterations of the dermal compartment have not yet been analysed in detail in SL. Objectives: To study the occurrence and distribution of melanin in the dermis from SL and aged skin, biopsies from 12 subjects were morphologically analysed by light and electron microscopy in comparison with unaffected skin. Methods: Punch biopsies of SL and adjacent skin from 12 male or female volunteers aged 52- 81 years were prepared for light and electron microscopy and samples were analysed by morphological, morphometric, histochemical and immunohistochemical methods. Results: The epidermis from SL revealed morphological features such as hyperpigmentation of basal keratinocytes and the formation of elongated rete ridges. S100+ melanocytes in the stratum basale were not markedly increased, indicating that the hyperpigmentation is predominantly due to changes in melanin synthesis, distribution or turnover. Quantification of epidermal cells expressing the proliferation marker Ki67 did not show an increase of this parameter in SL, indicating that at least in the established lesion cell proliferation is not enhanced. We further focused on the dermal compartment and observed granulated cells which were more abundant in SL. Electron microscopic and histochemical analysis revealed that the granulation of these cells is based on melanosomes, mostly present in large melanosomal complexes. Immunohistochemistry using antibodies to CD68 and factor XIIIa (FXIIIa) showed these melanophages to be predominantly FXIIIa+ dermal dendrocytes, which w

转基因技术是近十几年发展起来的一种新型治疗手段进入90年代以来,阳离子聚合物以其低付作用,高效率得到国际学术界及工业界的广泛注意。本文报导了低分子量聚乙烯亚胺作用非病毒型载体用于基因转移方面的研究。通过激光光散射及核磁共振谱的研究发现低分子量聚乙烯亚胺具有较低的支化度及分散性,同时具有较高的旋转半径等性质,在细胞培养实验中发现,与目前众多研究小组常用的商业化高分子量聚乙烯亚胺进行比较,低分子量聚乙烯亚胺在一个相当宽的浓度范围内具有相当低的毒性,同时在转基因实验中发现,其转移效率较之高分子量聚乙烯亚胺而言,增加了100倍左右,显示其作为一种新型的载体在转基因技术中的优势。

In this study,we proposed a new model to improve the accuracy of fore-casting the stock market volatility *** hypothesized model was validated empirically using a data set collected from the Saudi Arabia stock Exchange(Tada-wul).The data is the daily closed price index data from August 2011 to december 2019 with 2027 *** proposed forecasting model combines the best maximum overlapping discrete wavelet transform(MODWT)function(Bl14)and exponential generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity(EGARCh)*** results show the model's ability to analyze stock market data,highlight important events that contain the most volatile data,and improve forecast *** results were compared from a number of mathematical mod-els,which are the non-linear spectral model,autoregressive integrated moving aver-age(ARIMA)model and EGARCh *** performance of the forecasting model will be evaluated based on some of error functions such as Mean absolute percentage error(MAPE),Mean absolute scaled error(MASE)and Root means squared error(RMSE).
