Clinical outcomes of hospitalized patients with chikungunya fever: A retrospective analysis

Objective:To describe the prognostic and clinical profile of hospitalized patients with chikungunya virus(CHIKV)infection focusing on renal ***:This is a cross-sectional study including all patients with confirmed chikungunya fever(CHIKF)admitted to 3 different highcomplexity hospitals in Fortaleza,Brazil between January 2016 and June *** analysis was carried out to evaluate correlation between clinical profile and ***:Fifty-five patients were included,with a median age of 77(IQR=21)years,and 23(41.82%)were ***-five patients(45.45%,25/55)developed acute kidney injury(AKI),and 15(60.00%,15/25)were classified as KDIGO 1,1(4.00%)as KDIGO 2,and 9(36.00%)as KDIGO *** overall mortality was 34.54%whilst AKI-related mortality was 64.00%(16/25).Both AKI and encephalitis were associated with higher *** who died were significantly older[82(IQR=12)years vs.70(IQR=28.75)years,Pdependent risk factor of death(OR=12.06,95%CI=2.55–57.15,P=0.002).Recovery of renal function was similar among the different age ***:AKI is present in half of the study population and is an independent risk factor of ***,renal function should be carefully monitored in hospitalized patients with CHIKV infection.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease disseminated through the centuries in the whole world which causes symptoms that go from self-limited diseases to hemorrhagic manifestations and organ failure, including acute kidney injury(AKI), composing the severe disease known as the Weil's syndrome. Mortality rates varies according to the clinical presentation and usually increases when kidney injury is present, and is even higher in the setting of pulmonary hemorrhage. There are recent advances in the search for novel biomarkers of renal involvement and early detection of AKI in leptospirosis, as well as in its pathophysiology. We review in this article the clinical aspects of leptospirosis-associated AKI and the perspectives for future research.

Severe dengue associated with aseptic meningitis, acute kidney injury, and sudden sensorineural hearing loss: A case report

Most thin-film photovoltaic modules are constructed on soda-lime glass(SLG)substrates containing alkali oxides,such as Na_(2)*** may diffuse from SLG into a module's active layers through P1 lines,an area between a module's constituent cells where the substrate-side charge transport layer(CTL)is in direct contact with *** diffusion from SLG is known to cause several important effects inⅡ-Ⅵand chalcogenide solar modules,but it has not been studied in perovskite solar modules(PSMs).In this work,we use complementary microscopy and spectroscopy techniques to show that Na diffusion occurs in the fabrication process of *** diffuses vertically inside P1 lines and then laterally from P1 lines into the active area for up to 360 *** propose that this process is driven by the high temperatures the devices are exposed to during CTL and perovskite *** diffused Na preferentially binds with Br,forming Br-poor,l-rich perovskite and a species rich in Na and Br(Na-Br)close to P1 ***-Br passivates defect sites,reducing non-radiative recombination in the perovskite and boosting its luminescence by up to 5×.Na-Br is observed to be stable after 12 weeks of device storage,suggesting long-lasting effects of Na *** results not only point to a potential avenue to increase PSM performance but also highlight the possibility of unabated Na diffusion throughout a module's lifetime,especially if accelerated by the electric field and elevated temperatures achievable during device operation.

Objective:To report the outcomes of surgery for a contemporary series of patients with locally advanced non-metastatic renal cell carcinoma(RCC)treated at a referral academic centre,focusing on technical nuances and on the value of a multidisciplinary ***:We queried our prospective institutional database to identify patients undergoing surgical treatment for locally advanced(cT3-T4 N0-1 M0)renal masses suspected of RCC at our centre between January 2017 and december ***:Overall,32 patients were included in the analytic *** these,12(37.5%)tumours were staged as cT3a,8(25.0%)as cT3b,5(15.6%)as cT3c,and 7(21.9%)as cT4;6(18.8%)patients had preoperative evidence of lymph node ***(28.1%)patients underwent nephron-sparing surgery while 23(71.9%)received radical nephrectomy.A template-based lymphadenectomy was performed in 12 cases,with evidence of disease in 3(25.0%)at definitive histopathological *** cases of RCC with level IV inferior vena cava thrombosis were successfully treated using liver transplant techniques without the need for extracorporeal *** intraoperative complications were recorded in 3(9.4%)patients,no postoperative major complications(Clavien-Dindo3)were *** histopathological analysis,2(6.2%)patients who underwent partial nephrectomy harboured oncocytoma,while the most common malignant histotype was clear cell RCC(62.5%),with a median Leibovich score of 6(interquartile range 5e7).Conclusion:Locally advanced RCC is a complex and heterogenous disease posing several challenges to surgical *** experience confirms that provided careful patient selection,surgery in experienced hands can achieve favourable perioperative,oncological,and functional outcomes.
