BACKGROUND Mucosal healing has become an important goal of Crohn’s disease(CD)***,enriched with transforming growth factor-beta 2,and budeso-nide are commonly accepted treatments for mild-moderate ***,their effects on the small bowel(SB)mucosa remain *** To prospectively assess clinical and mucosal responses to Modulen vs budesonide in adults with CD,using SB capsule *** Thirty patients were divided into two groups:Modulen+home-based diet(21 patients)and budesonide(9 patients)for an eight-week intervention followed by four weeks of ***,laboratory,and endoscopic responses were *** mucosal changes were assessed through SB capsule *** Results indicated significant clinical improvement in the Modulen group with reduced CD activity index(P=0.041)and improved inflammatory bowel disease questionnaire score(P=0.016).Moreover,Modulen was associated with a signifi-cant SB mucosal improvement,evidenced by a decrease in Lewis score(P=0.027).No significant changes were observed in calprotectin or other laboratory ***,budesonide exhibited more modest clinical effects,but it improved calprotectin,hemoglobin,and C-reactive protein levels(P=0.051,P=0.014,and P=0.038,respectively).The capsule endoscopy did not reveal a significant mucosal response in the budesonide *** Both interventions have a role in CD ***,their effects differ and may complement each other:Modulen yields clinical and mucosal improvements,while budesonide primarily leads mainly to laboratory improvements.

Though the labonachip or microfluidics field can nov be considered well established and perhaps even maturafter more than two decades, it continues to grow. Type il ＂lab chip＂ or ＂microfluidics＂ into the Web of ScienceTM ant you＇ll see what I mean. At the time of writing this article there were 8029 published items, which had been citer 100,676 times altogether. An astounding number in fact ＂lab chip＂ or ＂microfluidics＂ has an Hindex of 131, asta tistic that many chemists, analytical or otherwise, have con tributed to over the years. The number of published paper continues to increase with each successive year, with mort than 1400 of the 8029 articles mentioned above appearin in 2011 alone. We are offto a good start in 2012, with mort than 150 papers published in January. At this rate, the tota number of papers in 2012 will easily surpass that of 2011 Clearly, more and more researchers continue to enter tht labonachip field, ensuring a healthy and dynamic re search climate internationally.

Use of Total Precipitable Water Classification of A Priori Error and Quality Control in Atmospheric Temperature and Water Vapor Sounding Retrieval

This study investigates the use of dynamic a priori error information according to atmospheric moistness and the use of quality controls in temperature and water vapor profile retrievals from hyperspectral infrared （IR） sounders. Temperature and water vapor profiles are retrieved from Atmospheric InfraRed Sounder （AIRS） radiance measurements by applying a physical iterative method using regression retrieval as the first guess. Based on the dependency of first-guess errors on the degree of atmospheric moistness, the a priori first-guess errors classified by total precipitable water （TPW） are applied in the AIRS physical retrieval procedure. Compared to the retrieval results from a fixed a priori error, boundary layer moisture retrievals appear to be improved via TPW classification of a priori first-guess errors. Six quality control （QC） tests, which check non-converged or bad retrievals, large residuals, high terrain and desert areas, and large temperature and moisture deviations from the first guess regression retrieval, are also applied in the AIRS physical retrievals. Significantly large errors are found for the retrievals rejected by these six QCs, and the retrieval errors are substantially reduced via QC over land, which suggest the usefulness and high impact of the QCs, especially over land. In conclusion, the use of dynamic a priori error information according to atmospheric moistness, and the use of appropriate QCs dealing with the geographical information and the deviation from the first-guess as well as the conventional inverse performance are suggested to improve temperature and moisture retrievals and their applications.

As of 2015,204 cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls(MMIWG)remained unsolved in Canada,making it a major concern for Canadian Indigenous communities,who are still pressing for the resolution of these *** forensic anthropology,the assessment of population affinity can be useful to help identify *** affinity,previously referred to as ancestry,is evaluated based on morphological analyses,which examine the size and shape of skeletal features,and metric analyses,which utilise skeletal ***,morphological analyses strongly depend on an anthropologist’s experience with human variation,which makes the analyses particularly challenging to reproduce and *** purpose of this study is to improve the rigour of morphological analyses by using 3D technology to quantify relevant cranial nonmetric population affinity *** there is currently little morphological data available for the Canadian Indigenous population,this research aims to develop a new technique that could aid in the identification of *** study comprised a total of 87 adult female crania,including 24 of Canadian Inuit origin,50 of European descent and 13 of African *** samples were imaged using photogrammetry,then analysed using a 3D shape analysis in 3DS *** show that this method is satisfactory in correctly evaluating population affinity with an accuracy of 87.36%(jackknifed:80.46%)and an average repeatability of 97%.Unfortunately,the small Canadian Indigenous sample size impacted the applicability of the results and further research will be required before the technique can be used to aid in the identification of MMIWG in Canada.

Quercetin is a bioflavonoid compound with low water solubility in both foods and the gastrointestinal tract,which limits the exploitation of its health-promoting *** study aims to formulate solid dispersions(SDs)of quercetin with hydrophilic polyethylene glycol PEG matrices,using the melt-mixing method,to improve the dissolution and antioxidant activity of ***,the total Gibbs free energy for different binary mixtures was modelled to predict the miscibility of the ***,the physicochemical properties of the formulated SDs were characterised and dissolution tests and antioxidant activity measurements were performed in vitro to evaluate the improved profiles and antioxidant activity of the SDs *** group contribution methods of Hoy and Van Krevelen and Hoftyzer,used for PEG solubility parameter calculations,presented a suitable prediction of interaction and miscibility *** results suggested the presence of amorphous quercetin precipitates in the crystalline matrix of PEG 4000 and PEG 6000,and the formation of an amorphous SD between quercetin and PEG *** formulations achieved good radical scavenging activity and better dissolution,especially the quercetin-PEG 1000 SDs.

Abstract In early 1919, people like Hu Shi and Chen Duxiu were regarded as members of an ivory-tower ＂academic faction＂（xuepai）, embroiled in a debate with an opposing ＂faction.＂ After the May Fourth demonstrations, they were praised as the stars of a ＂New Culture Movement.＂ However, it was not obvious how the circle around Hu Shi and Chert Duxiu was associated with the May Fourth demonstrations. This link hinged on the way in which newspapers like Shenbao reported about the academic debates and the political events of May Fourth. After compartmentalizing the debating academics into fixed xuepai, Shenbao ascribed warlord-political allegiances to them. These made the Hu-Chen circle look like government victims and their ＂factional＂ rivals like the warlords＇ allies. When the atmosphere became hostile to the government during May Fourth, Hu Shi＇s ＂faction＂ became associated with the equally victimized May Fourth demonstrators. Their ideas were regarded as （now popular） expressions of anti-government sentiment, and soon this was labeled the core of the ＂New Culture Movement.＂ The idea and rhetoric of China＇s ＂New Culture Movement＂ in this way emerged out of the fortuitous concatenation of academic debates, newspaper stories, and political events.
