Assessment of vascular invasion in gastric cancer: A comparative study

AIM: To evaluate and compare detection of lymphatic and blood vessel invasion (LVI and BVI) by hematox-ylin-eosin (HE) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) in gastric cancer specimens, and to correlate with lymph node status. METHODs: IHC using D2-40 (a lymphatic endothelial marker) and CD34 (a pan-endothelial marker) was performed to study LVI and BVI in surgical specimens froma consecutive series of 95 primary gastric cancer cases. The results of the IHC study were compared with the detection by HE using McNemar test and kappa index. The morphologic features of the tumors and the presence of LVI and BVI were related to the presence of lymph node metastasis. A χ2 test was performed to obtain associations between LVI and BVI and other prognostic factors for gastric cancer. REsULTs: The detection rate of LVI was considerably higher than that of BVI. The IHC study identified eight false-positive cases and 13 false-negative cases for LVI, and 24 false-positive cases and 10 false-negative cases for BVI. The average Kappa value determined was moderate for LVI (k=0.50) and low for BVI (k=0.20). Both LVI and BVI were statistically associated with the presence of lymph node metastasis (HE: P=0.001, P=0.013, and IHC: P=0.001, P=0.019). The mor-phologic features associated with LVI were location of the tumor in the distal third of the stomach (P=0.039), Borrmann's macroscopic type (P=0.001), organ inva-sion (P=0.03) and the depth of tumor invasion (P=0.001). The presence of BVI was related only to the depth of tumor invasion (P=0.003). CONCLUsION: The immunohistochemical identification of lymphatic and blood vessels is useful for increasing the accuracy of the diagnosis of vessel invasion and for predicting lymph node metastasis.

Quassinoids from the Root Barks of Ailanthus altissima:Isolation,Configurational Assignment,and Cytotoxic Activities

Main observation and conclusion Quassinoids,a class of highly oxygenated triterpenes,have been isolated as bitter principles from the plants of simaroubaceae *** new quassinoids,chouchunlactone A-E(1-5),and two known ones were identified from the root barks of Ailanthus altissima swingle(simaroubaceae).The chemical structures of the new compounds were deduced by spectroscopic data analyses,NMR calculations and DP4+probability *** absolute configurations were defined by comparison of their experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism(ECD)spectra data,and compounds 1-2 were further confirmed by single-crystal X-ray ***,compound 5 showed potencies equivalent to sorafenib(IC50 value,9.70μmol·L–1)against HepG2 *** Hoechst 33342 staining,JC-1 fluorescent dye and Annexin V/PI analysis studies demonstrated that 5 can induce apoptosis and attenuate mitochondrial membrane potential(MMP)in HepG2 cells.

structured light–electromagnetic waves with a strong spatial inhomogeneity of amplitude,phase,and polarization–has occupied far-reaching positions in both optical research and ***(THz)waves,due to recent innovations in photonics and nanotechnology,became so robust that it was not only implemented in a wide variety of applications such as communications,spectroscopic analysis,and non-destructive imaging,but also served as a low-cost and easily implementable experimental platform for novel concept *** this work,we show that structured nonparaxial THz light in the form of Airy,Bessel,and Gaussian beams can be generated in a compact way using exclusively silicon diffractive optics prepared by femtosecond laser ablation *** accelerating nature of the generated structured light is demonstrated via THz imaging of objects partially obscured by an opaque beam *** conventional paraxial approaches,when a combination of a lens and a cubic phase(or amplitude)mask creates a nondiffracting Airy beam,we demonstrate simultaneous lensless nonparaxial THz Airy beam generation and its application in imaging *** of single objects,imaging with a controllable placed obstacle,and imaging of stacked graphene layers are presented,revealing hence potential of the approach to inspect quality of 2D *** nonparaxial THz illumination is investigated both theoretically and experimentally with appropriate extensive *** structured THz illumination consistently outperforms the conventional one in resolution and contrast,thus opening new frontiers of structured light applications in imaging and inverse scattering problems,as it enables sophisticated estimates of optical properties of the investigated structures.

利咽雾化液抗炎抑菌作用的实验观察

目的观察利咽雾化液抗炎抑菌作用效果,验证其安全性。方法给健康小鼠灌胃相当于临床人用量的102倍的药量,验证其安全性;采用二甲苯引起小鼠耳廓肿胀、角叉菜胶引起大鼠足趾肿胀的炎症模型,观察其抗炎作用;采用杯碟法测定利咽雾化液对临床分离的46株临床常见的革兰氏阴性菌和革兰氏阳性菌的体外抗菌作用。结果利咽雾化液对动物无明显毒性,LD50大于144g/kg;对二甲苯引起的小鼠耳廓肿胀及角叉菜胶引起的大鼠足趾肿胀有较好的抗炎作用,体外抑菌实验可见利咽雾化液对临床常见的革兰氏阴性菌和革兰氏阳性菌均具有一定的抑制作用。结论利咽雾化液具有较好的抗炎、抑菌作用,且安全性高。
