Mechanical forces are key regulators of cellular behavior and function,affecting many fundamental biological processes such as cell migration,embryogenesis,immunological responses,and pathological *** force sensors and imaging techniques have been developed to quantify these otherwise invisible forces in single cells and in ***,current techniques rely heavily on high-resolution microscopy and do not allow interrogation of optically dense tissue,reducing their application to 2D cell cultures and highly transparent biological ***,we introduce DEFORM,deformable microlaser force sensing,a spectroscopic technique that detects sub-nanonewton forces with unprecedented spatio-temporal *** is based on the spectral analysis of laser emission from dye-doped oil microdroplets and uses the force-induced lifting of laser mode degeneracy in these droplets to detect nanometer *** validation by atomic force microscopy and development of a model that links changes in laser spectrum to applied force,DEFORM is used to measure forces in 3D and at depths of hundreds of microns within tumor spheroids and late-stage Drosophila *** furthermore show continuous force sensing with single-cell spatial and millisecond temporal resolution,thus paving the way for non-invasive studies of biomechanical forces in advanced stages of embryogenesis,tissue remodeling,and tumor invasion.

The reduction of speed limits in urban roads through traffic calming schemes intends to ensure safer traffic conditions among road users by reducing the probability related to the occurrence of severe *** it from a different perspective,traffic calming measures can potentially resolve congestion problems at the same time by lowering the overall accessibility and attractiveness of private cars in urban *** study proposes a new methodological approach to explore and assess the direct impacts of traffic calming in the transport system efficiency of a metropolitan *** multi-agent transport simulation(MATSim)and Open-Berlin scenario are utilized to perform this simulation *** developing a new external tool,the free flow speed and road capacity of each network link is updated based on new speed limits and different compliance rates,which are defined per road hierarchy *** test scenarios that are formulated present radical conditions,where the speed limit in most urban roads of Berlin drops to 30 km/h or even 15 km/*** findings of this study show a considerably high increase in trips,passenger hours,and passenger kilometers using public transport modes,when traffic calming links are introduced,the reserve change is observed in private cars *** the speed limits are decreased in inner urban roads in most of the scenarios,the decrease of average travel speed of private cars is not so high as it was ***,private cars are used for longer distances in all test *** drivers seem to use already existed motorways and private road to *** simulations,driver compliance to the new speed limits seems to be a determinant factor that is strongly influenced by the design interventions applied in a traffic calming area.

The median arcuate ligament syndrome(MALS)is recognized as a rare clinical entity,characterized by chronic post-prandial abdominal pain,nausea,vomiting,and unintentional weight *** to its vague symptomatology,it is mainly regarded as a diagnosis of *** can often be misdiagnosed for several years before a correct diagnosis is established,also due to a medical team’s clinical *** present a case series of two patients who suffered from MALS and were treated *** first patient is a 32-year-old woman,presenting with post-prandial abdominal pain and weight loss that have lasted for the past ten *** second patient,a 50-year-old woman,presented with similar symptomatology,with the symptoms lasting for the last five *** cases were treated by laparoscopic division of the median arcuate ligament fibers,which alleviated extrinsic pressure from the celiac *** cases of MALS were retrieved from PubMed,to assemble a better diagnostic algorithm and propose a treatment method of *** literature review suggests an angiography with a respiratory variation protocol as the diagnostic modality of choice,along with the laparoscopic division of the median arcuate ligament fibers as the proposed treatment of choice.

During the last decades many researchers have been occupied with other plasma applications apart from the big challenge which the thermonuclear fusion poses. Many experiments have been carried out on the plasma behavior in contact with a solid surface; when the surface material consists of chemical compounds （e.g. oxides of metals）, then the plasma chemistry takes place. The present paper contains the final experimental and theoretical work of Plasma Laboratory at ＂Demokritos＂, which consists of an elaboration of plasma sheath parameters adapted to experimental conditions, a suitable choice of plasma gases （either h 2 or N 2 ）, and an electric po-tential current enforcement on objects. Additionally, a brief theory is given to explain the results, with a short reference to both boundary phenomena in thermonuclear reactors and low pressure plasma of glow discharges, so as to reveal the similarities and differences of these two cases. An extensive examination of the treated objects by X-ray diffraction method （XRD） gives results in agreement with the theoretical predictions. Using this improvement on plasma restoration system, （a combination of electric current on metallic object into suitable plasma）, it is shown that better results can be achieved on the cleaning and conservation of archaeological objects.

We demonstrate the fabrication of a new DNA sensor that is based on the optical interactions occurring between oligonucleotide-coated NaYF4:Yb^(3+);Er^(3+) upconversion nanoparticles and the two-dimensional dichalcogenide materials,MoS_(2) and WS_(2).Monodisperse upconversion nanoparticles were functionalized with single-stranded DNA endowing the nanoparticles with the ability to interact with the surface of the two-dimensional materials via van der Waals interactions leading to subsequent quenching of the upconversion *** contrast,in the presence of a complementary oligonucleotide target and the formation of double-stranded DNA,the upconversion nanoparticles could not interact with MoS_(2) and WS_(2),thus retaining their inherent fluorescence *** this sensor we were able to detect target oligonucleotides with high sensitivity and specificity whilst reaching a concentration detection limit as low as 5 mol·L^(-1),within minutes.

In order to conserve and culture the cichlid fish Archocentrus nigrofasciatus,more information about its reproductive biology and its larval behavior and morphogenesis is ***,temperatures ranging from 21 to 27°C are used in ornamental aquaculture *** temperatures are preferred to reduce the costs of water heating,and 23°C is usually the selected ***,there is limited information on culturing protocols for ornamental species and most of the information generated on this topic remains ***,the present study examines the morphological development of Archocentrus nigrofasciatus during the yolk-sac period up to the age of 100 h post-hatching in relation to 2 temperature regimes used in ornamental aquaculture:a temperature of 27°C(thermal optimum)and a decreased temperature of 23°C(thermal tolerance).The results of this study suggest that the 27°C temperature generates intense morphological changes in yolk-sac development in a shorter *** has advantages as it reduces the time of yolk-sac larval development,and,thus,minimizes the transition phase to exogenous feeding and maximizes the efficiency at which yolk is converted into body *** present paper provides necessary information to produce freshwater ornamental fish with better practices so as to increase larval survival and capitalize on time for growth.

Physical and Mechanical Properties of Eco-Friendly Composites Made from Wood Dust and Recycled Polystyrene

The development of alternative wood composites based on the use of waste or recycled materials can be beneficial due to over exploitation of natural *** this frame,an option for the successful utilization of waste polystyrene which avoids environmental problems that formaldehyde adhesives cause and also reduces waste dis-posal,is its potential application as a binder for the production of value-added environmentally friendly and low cost wood *** types of panel were successfully made,consisting of wood dust and two recycled poly-styrene contents,namely,15%and 30%.Both physical properties,water absorption and thickness swelling,and mechanical properties,modulus of rupture,shear strength parallel in the plane of the board and glue line shear strength,were significantly improved as the recycled polystyrene content increased from 15%to 30%.Water absorption and thickness swelling after 24 h immersion in water were improved by 165%and 750%as the recycled polystyrene content increased from 15%to 30%.The magnitude of the improvement in mechanical properties however,was less pronounced than of the physical properties since modulus of rupture,shear strength parallel in the plane of the board and glue line shear strength were increased by 43.6%,50%and 61.5%,*** low viscosity of the recycled polystyrene caused more mobility inside the panel matrix and therefore,an improved penetration took place into adequate depth of the compressed dust *** is concluded that boards can be successfully produced using these waste raw materials,wood dust and recycled polystyrene in organic solvent as a binder,and therefore it can reduce waste disposal and provide cleaner production for the development of wood-based boards.

AIM:To report the clinical characteristics and diagnostic procedures used in patients with spasm of the near reflex(SNR),in order to present common investigation strategies and diagnostic ***:Retrospective case series of twenty-two patients,mainly children,with SNR or accommodation spasm(AS).AS was diagnosed on the basis of blurred vision and a difference of>2 dioptres between manifest and cycloplegic *** esotropia and miosis were present,the patients were diagnosed with *** patients underwent visual acuity testing,orthoptic evaluation,assessment of refraction before and after cycloplegia,and dilated *** diagnostic investigations,such as neuroimaging,lumbar puncture(LP),electrophysiology and blood tests,were also *** use among children was assessed in hours per ***:There were 19 female and 3 male patients(age range 7-33 y,median=10 y).Seventeen patients had AS and 5 patients had SNR,with episodic blurry vision and headaches being the most common *** neuroimaging was performed in six patients(27%),although only one had a history of brain *** of those patients underwent visual evoked potentials and three also underwent LP and received intravenous steroid *** majority of patients(90%)reported prolonged daily screen time(>2 h/d),and in 55%of cases there were concurrent social problems or psychological *** consisted of careful explanation of the condition,atropine1%eye drops and full cycloplegic correction by means of bifocal ***:The diagnosis of SNR and AS may be challenging,because symptoms are usually intermittent and nonspecific,and a large number of patients are often subjected to redundant and potentially time-consuming examinations and treatment,that may exaggerate the underlying psychological ***,detailed clinical testing and assessment of psychosocial profile is necessary,in order to avoid unnecessary *** sh

Background:The right ventricle to pulmonary artery conduit(RVPAC)may impair right ventricular(RV)function in patients with functional single right *** of the RVPAC using a ring-reinforced end with dunked insertion into the RV through a limited ventriculotomy may reduce the impact on RV *** compared RV segmental strain between patients with a traditional RVPAC and ring-reinforced RVPAC using feature tracking cardiovascular magnetic resonance(CMR)***:Patients with CMR examinations after Stage I operation with RVPAC between 2000 and 2018 were *** mass,volumes,late gadolinium enhancement(LGE),and peak radial and circumferential strain of the 4 segments near the RVPAC insertion site were ***:The study included 71 CMR examinations in 61 patients(30 traditional RVPAC,31 ring-reinforced RVPAC).Prior to Stage II,the ring-reinforced RVPAC group had better peak radial strain and circumferential strain in 1 of 4 segments proximal to the RVPAC insertion site compared to the traditional RVPAC *** to Stage III operation,the ring-reinforced group had better peak radial and circumferential strain in 2 of 4 *** at the RVPAC insertion site was observed in 97%of patients before Stage II and 95%of patients before Stage *** type and regional strain were not associated with transplant-free survival during a median follow-up of 6.3 ***:Compared to a traditional RVPAC,the ring-reinforced RVPAC is associated with improved regional mechanics at the conduit insertion *** investigation of long-term outcomes after ring-reinforced RVPAC is warranted.
