AIM:To study the action of aminoguanidine on pancreatic cancer xenografts in relation to cell proliferation,apoptosis,redox status and ***:Xenografts of PAnC-1 cells were developed in nude mice. The animals were separated into two groups:control and aminoguanidine treated. Tumor growth,survival and appearance of metastases were determined in vivo in both groups. Tumors were excised and ex vivo histochemical studies were performed. Cell growth was assessed by Ki-67 expression. Apoptosis was studied by intratumoral expression of B cell lymphoma-2 protein (Bcl-2) family proteins and Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase biotin-dUTP nick End Labeling (Tunel). Redox status was evaluated by the expression of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (enOS),catalase,copper-zinc superoxide dismutase (CuZnSOD),manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx). Finally,vascularization was determined by Massons trichromic staining,and by VEGF and CD34 ***:Tumor volumes after 32 d of treatment by aminoguanidine (AG) were significantly lower than in control mice (P n survival of AG mice was significantly greater than control animals (P nce of both homolateral and contralateral palpable metastases was significantly delayed in AG group. Apoptotic cells,intratumoral vascularization (trichromic stain) and the expression of Ki-67,Bax,enOS,CD34,VEGF,catalase,CuZnSOD and MnSOD were diminished in AG treated mice (P n of Bcl-2 and GPx did not ***:The antitumoral action of aminoguanidine is associated with decreased cell proliferation,reduced angiogenesis,and reduced expression of antioxidant enzymes.

Background:Wildfires are one of the major environmental concerns in Mediterranean ***,many studies have addressed wildfire impacts on soil and vegetation in Mediterranean forests,but the linkages between these ecosystem compartments after fire are not well *** aim of this work is to analyze soil-vegetation relationships in Mediterranean burned forests as well as the consistency of these relationships among forests with different environmental conditions,at different times after fire,and among vegetation with different functional ***:Our results indicate that study site conditions play an important role in mediating soil-vegetation ***,we found that the nature of soil-vegetation relationships may vary over time as fire effects are less dominant in both ecosystem *** this,we detected several common soil-vegetation relationships among study sites and times after *** instance,our results revealed that available P content and stoichiometry(C:P and n:P)were closely linked to vegetation growth,and particularly to the growth of *** found that enzymatic activities and microbial biomass were inversely related to vegetation growth rates,whereas the specific activities of soil enzymes were higher in the areas with more vegetation height and ***,our results suggest that resprouters may influence soil properties more than seeders,the growth of seeders being more dependent on soil ***:We provide pioneer insights into how vegetation is influenced by soil,and vice-versa,in Mediterranean burned *** results reflect variability in soil-vegetation relationships among study sites and time after fire,but consistent patterns between soil properties and vegetation were also *** research is highly relevant to advance in forest science and could be useful to achieve efficient post-fire management.

We analysed histologically two Acanthamoeba keratitis(AK) eyes with anterior and posterior segment inflammation and blindness. Two enucleated eyes of 2 patients(age 45 and 51y) with AK(PCR of epithelial abrasion positive) were analysed. Histological analysis was performed using hematoxylin-eosin, periodic acid-Schiff and G?m?rimethenamine silver staining. We could not observe Acanthamoeba trophozoites or cysts neither in the cornea nor in other ocular tissues. Meanwhile, we found uveitis, retinal vasculitis and scleritis in these eyes, due to the long-standing, recalcitrant AK. So in this stage of AK, systemic immune suppression may be necessary for a longer time period.

In domestic dogs Canis familiaris,vocal traits have been investigated for barks and growls,and the relationship between individual body size and vocal traits investigated for growls,with less corre-sponding information for *** this study,we examined the frequency and temporal traits of whines of 20 adult companion dogs(9 males,11 females),ranging in body mass from 3.5 to 70.0 kg and belonging to 16 *** whines(26-71 per individual,824 in total)were recorded in condi-tioned begging contexts modeled by dog *** had 3 independent fundamental fre-quencies:the low,the high and the ultra-high that occurred singly as monophonic calls or simul-taneously as 2-voice biphonic or 3 voice polyphonic *** the smallest to largest dog,the upper frequency limit varied from 0.24 to 2.13 kHz for the low fundamental frequency,from 2.95 to 10.46 kHz for the high fundamental frequency and from 9.99 to 23.26 kHz for the ultra-high funda-mental *** individuals,the low fundamental frequency was lower in monophonic than in biphonic whines,whereas the high fundamental frequency did not differ between those whine *** frequency variables of the low,high,and ultra-high fundamental frequencies cor-related negatively with dog body *** duration,no correlation with body mass was *** discuss potential production mechanisms and sound sources for each fundamental frequency;point to the acoustic similarity between high-frequency dog whines and rodent ultrasonic calls and hypothesize that ultra-high fundamental frequencies function to allow private,"tete-a-tete"com-munication between members of social groups.

Traditionally,urbanization has been seen as a negative phenomenon for ***,changes in the environmental parameters induced by urbanization might be favorable for some *** the past half-century,the common hamster has actively populated cities,establishing populations in some European,Russian and Kazakhstan *** on integrative methods,we investigated free-range common hamsters inhabiting Simferopol from 2015 to 2018 to reveal possible adaptations to the urbanized environment across several parameters,including lifespan,hibernation period,reproductive activity and body *** show that in urban areas,the common hamster demonstrates an extremely short hibernation period compared to other localities,possibly due to enhanced food resources from urban forestry(walnuts,locus and hazelnut),allowing the species to start breeding very early(February)and finish as late as *** present the first evidence of polyandry for this species:mating of receptive females with several males and subsequent confirmation of multiple *** high reproductive potential,the lifespan of the common hamster in urban conditions is generally very short(less than 1 year).We speculate that in the process of synurbization,the common hamster’s innate plasticity across many life history traits permits it to successfully colonize throughout a wide range of habitats,with the ability to form novel adaptations to urban environments.

n:justify;"> Background concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd, and ni were calculated for brown algae Costaria costata from the northwest Sea of Japan. Also the paper contains refined data on heavy metal concentrations in the widespread distributed brown algae, such as Stephanocystis crassipes, Sargassum pallidum and S. miyabei. As the upper threshold levels of metal background concentrations, the median values plus double medians of absolute deviations from the medians were used (Me + 2MAD). The lower threshold level of the background concentration equal to the physiological need for an element is the median of 15% minimum values in the sampling minus the double median of absolute deviations from the median (Me15 - 2MAD15). The calculated ranges of the background concentrations of metals in algae were compared with concentrations of elements in mac-rophytes collected from habitats with background concentrations of metals in water.

Urban Heat Island Investigations in Arctic Cities of northwestern Russia

Among varieties of educational systems in the 21 st century, there is one type of special education, a rehabilitation one. The following article deals with rehabilitation education aimed at the victims of forced prostitution, or CSE(Commercial Sex Exploitation), in Apne Aap Women Worldwide(AAWW), a registered charitable trust in India founded in 2002 by Ruchira Gupta, famous activist and fighter against sex trafficking and rape in India. AAWW has elaborated unique models of rehabilitation education highly estimated all over the world. It is a useful experience as Apne Aap has saved more than 20,000 girls and women, providing them access to basic human rights including education. The gender situation in India shows that involvement into the inter-generational caste-based prostitution from a very early age is a common practice for plenty of girls, so in that form women's discrimination and child prostitution are interlinked with illiteracy and depriving of education. Indian feminism and indigenous fighters for women's rights are overcoming the problems of deep-rooted tradition of women's humiliation, harassment, alienation and ever-lasting colonial impact on CSE in India. We can call Apne Aap practices rehabilitation through education.

Urban microclimate peculiarities in two Arctic cities in northwestern Russia--Kirovsk （67.62°n, 33.67°E） and Apatity （67.57°n, 33.38°E）-were investigated by using mobile temperature records. The experiment was carried out in and around Apatity and Kirovsk in February 2014 and December 2016. The DS 18B20 digital thermometer was in- stalled on the roof of a car （height： approximately 1.2 m） to measure and record temperature variations automatically. In addition to the digital thermometer, the car was also equipped with an onboard global positioning system, allow- ing every temperature measurement to be referenced with an altitude and a latitude/longitude position. The possibility of urban heat island formation in these polar cities, above the Arctic Circle, was studied. Our analysis indicated that on 11 February 2014, the temperature varied in accordance with the background environmental lapse rate （-0.0045℃ m^-1）, and nearly corresponded to it （-0.0165℃ m^-1） on 12 February 2014. On 6 December 2016, a strong local temperature inversion with a positive value of 0.032℃ m^-1 was detected, seemingly caused by the formation of a cold air pool in the valley near Kirovsk. It was found that the temperature variations within and outside these cities are strongly influenced by local topographic effects and the physical conditions of the atmospheric boundary layer.
