High interpretable machine learning classifier for early glaucoma diagnosis

AIM:To develop a classifier for differentiating between healthy and early stage glaucoma eyes based on peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL)thicknesses measured with optical coherence tomography(OCT),using machine learning algorithms with a high ***:Ninety patients with early glaucoma and 85 healthy eyes were *** glaucoma eyes showed a visual field(VF)defect with mean deviation>-6.00 d B and characteristic glaucomatous *** thickness in every quadrant,clock-hour and average thickness were used to feed machine learning *** analysis was conducted to detect and exclude *** gradient boosting algorithms were used to calculate the importance of parameters on the classifier and to check the relation between their values and its impact on the *** with the lowest importance were excluded and a weighted decision tree analysis was applied to obtain an interpretable *** under the ROC curve(AUC),accuracy and generalization ability of the model were estimated using cross validation ***:Average and 7 clock-hour RNFL thicknesses were the parameters with the highest impor *** between parameter values and impact on classification displayed a stepped pattern for average *** tree model revealed that average thickness lower than 82μm was a high predictor for early *** scores had AUC of 0.953(95%CI:0.903-0998),with an accuracy of 89%.CONCLUSION:Gradient boosting methods provide accurate and highly interpretable classifiers to discriminate between early glaucoma and healthy *** and 7-hour RNFL thicknesses have the best discriminant power.

Predicting the clothing insulation through machine learning algorithms:A comparative analysis and a practical approach

Since indoor clothing insulation is a key element in thermal comfort models,the aim of the present study is proposing an approach for predicting it,which could assist the occupants of a building in terms of recommendations regarding their *** that,a systematic analysis of input variables is exposed,and 13 regression and 12 classification machine learning algorithms were developed and *** results are based on data from 3352 questionnaires and 21 input variables from a field study in mixed-mode office buildings in *** temperature at 6 a.m.,indoor air temperature,indoor relative humidity,comfort temperature and gender were the most relevant features for predicting clothing *** comparing machine learning algorithms,decision tree-based algorithms with Boosting techniques achieved the best *** proposed model provides an efficient method for forecasting the clothing insulation level and its application would entail optimising thermal comfort and energy efficiency.

System Design for the Event Horizon Imaging Experiment Using the PECMEO Concept

The concept for space interferometry from Polar or Equatorial Circular Medium Earth Orbits(the PECMEO concept) is a promising way to acquire the image of the"shadow"of the event horizon of Sagittarius A*with an angular resolution of circa 5 microarcseconds. The concept is intended to decrease the size of the main reflector of the instrument to about 3 m using a precise orbit reconstruction based on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) navigation, inter-satellite range and range-rate measurements, and data from the Attitude and Orbit Determination System (AODS). The paper provides the current progress on the definition of the subsystems required for the concept on the basis of simulations, radio regulations, and available technology. The paper proposes the requirement for the localization of the phase centre of the main reflector. The paper provides information about the visibility of GNSS satellites and the needed accuracies of the AODS. The paper proposes the frequency plan for the instrument and its Inter-Satellite Links (ISLs).The concepts for measurement of range and range-rate using ISLs (as well as for the data exchange at these ISLs) are presented. The block diagram of the interferometer is described and its sensitivity is estimated. The link budget for both ISLs is given as well as their critical components. The calculated measurement quality factors are given. The paper shows the expected performance of the sub-systems of the interferometer. The requirements for the localization of the main reflectors and the information about the availability of the GNSS satellites are based on the simulations results. The frequency plan is obtained according to the PECMEO concept and taking into account the radio regulations. The existing technology defines the accuracies of the AODS, both the link budgets and the fundamental measurement accuracies for ISLs, and the sensitivity of the instrument. Anti-cytomegalovirus antibodies and other atherosclerosis risk factors in patients with cardiovascular diseases

Objective To determine anti-cytomegalovirus(CMV) antibodies along with anti-Chlamydia pneumoniae(CP) antibodies in comparison with inflammatory markers and other risk factors of atherosclerosis in patients with selected cardiovascular diseases(CVD) . Methods A total of 228 patients with coronary heart disease(CHD) and/or hyperten-sion(HT) ,and those who underwent reconstructive vascular surgery(RVS) on carotids or abdominal aorta were tested for the presence of anti-CMV IgG and IgM antibodies as well as for anti-CP IgA antibodies,C-reactive protein(CRP) ,and interleukin-6(IL-6) . Other risk factors for atherosclerosis,namely age,gender,smoking,hypercholesterolemia,and diabetes mellitus were also analyzed. Results Anti-CMV IgG antibodies were found in 204 patients sera(89.5%) ,compared with 46 positive of 68 sera in the controls(67.6%) ,whereas anti-CMV IgM antibodies were detected in 4 of 54 sera of patients tested(7.4%) ,but not in the controls. The highest proportion of positive sera with not only anti-CMV IgG antibodies(95.6.7%) ,but also anti-CP IgA antibodies(78.3%) ,IL-6(84.8%) and CRP(97.8%) ,was observed in patients with RVS. The results obtained corresponded to age,hypercholesterolemia,and diabetes. Conclusions The presence of anti-CMV antibodies together with antibodies to CP and markers of inflammation(CRP and IL-6) in our study was associated with CVD,primarily in elderly patients who underwent RVS.

Epidemiological Aspects and Clinicopathological Findings in Cats Naturally Infected with Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) and/or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)

Infections produced by feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukemia virus (FeLV), two of the most prevalent pathogens in cats, range from passing unnoticed to presenting a wide variety of clinical signs. Different epidemiological, clinical, hematological and virological parameters were analyzed in 78 FIV- and/or FeLV-infected cats. FeLV-infected (FeLV+) cats were considerably younger than FIV-infected (FIV+) cats, and in general were seen to have a more severe disease than FIV+ cats. Around one third of the cats presented anemia, and neutropenia was also frequently observed. Though a higher percentage of FIV+ than FeLV+ cats had altered leukocyte counts, FeLV+ cats had altered counts of both neutrophils and lymphocytes more frequently than FIV+, which usually presented only either altered neutrophils or lymphocyte counts. Virological markers were only detected in FeLV+cats, either as mono- or dual-infection, and correlated with the severity of the disease, but not in FIV+ cats. In conclusion, these results suggest that FeLV affects more blood cell types and provokes death of affected animals at a much earlier age than FIV and that the severity of the disease seemed to depend on the viral status of the cat.

We analyzed the allelic and genotypic frequencies of the glutathione-S-transferase P1 （GSTPI） rs1695 single nucleotide polymorphism （SNP） in 290 patients with multiple sclerosis （MS） and in 310 healthy controls. We found no significant association between the rs1695 variant and MS. Among MS patients, there was no relationship between the rs1695 variant and either gender, clinical type of MS or the age of onset of MS.
