Importance:Reported coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic effects on pediatric trauma have been ***:We investigated the characteristics of pediatric trauma including alcohol use during the pandemic at our urban trauma ***:The trauma database of our adult level 1 trauma center was queried for all pediatric(age≤18 years)patients presenting between march 1,2020,and October 30,*** from 2017 to 2019 served as a *** analyzed included demographics,mechanisms,injury severity,hospitalization characteristics,and positive blood ***:Pandemic pediatric trauma volumes increased by 67.5%(330/year vs.197/year).Pandemic patients were younger(median age 13 vs.14 years,P=0.011),but similar in gender,ethnicity,severity,hospital length of stay,mortality,and rates of penetrating *** doubled(79/year vs.34/year)and shifted away from high falls>6 meters(0%vs.7.9%)to moderate falls 1–6 meters(58.2%vs.51.5%)(P=0.028).Transportation injury rates were similar however mechanisms shifted from motor vehicle crashes(−13.5%)towards recreational vehicles including motorcycles(+2.1%),all-terrain vehicles(+8.6%),and bicycles(+3.8%)(P=0.018).Pediatricpositive blood alcohol was significantly higher(11.2%vs.5.1%,Pma volumes during the COVID-19 pandemic *** patients had more recreational vehicle injuries and higher rates of positive blood *** suggests an increased need for alcohol assessment and targeted interventions in the pediatric population during pandemics or periods of school closures.

In the last decade,attention has become greater to the relationship between neurodegeneration and abnormal insulin signaling in the central nervous system,as insulin in the brain is implicated in neuronal survival,plasticity,oxidative stress and *** mellitus and Parkinson’s disease are both aging-associated diseases that are turning into epidemics *** mellitus and insulin resistance not only increase the possibility of developing Parkinson’s disease but can also determine the prognosis and progression of Parkinsonian ***,there are no available curative or disease modifying treatments for Parkinson’s disease,but the role of insulin and antidiabetic medications in neurodegeneration opens a door to treatment repurposing to fight against Parkinson’s disease,both in diabetic and nondiabetic Parkinsonian ***,it is essential to comprehend how a frequent and treatable disease such as diabetes can influence the progression of neurodegeneration in a challenging disease such as Parkinson’s ***,we review the present evidence on the connection between Parkinson’s disease and diabetes and the consequential implications of the existing antidiabetic molecules in the severity and development of Parkinsonism,with a particular focus on glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists.

Effect of storage conditions on long-term stability of Ag nanoparticles formed via green synthesis

Spherical Ag nanoparticles(AgNPs) with a diameter of 20 nm or smaller were biologically synthesized using algae Parachlorella kessleri. The effect of storage conditions on the long-term stability of AgNPs was investigated. UV/Vis spectrophotometry, transmission electron microscopy, and dynamic light scattering measurements revealed that the long-term stability of AgNPs was influenced by light and temperature conditions. The most significant loss of stability was observed for the AgNPs stored in daylight at room temperature. The AgNPs stored under these conditions began to lose their stability after approximately 30 d; after 100 d, a substantial amount of agglomerated particles settled to the bottom of the Erlenmeyer flask. The AgNPs stored in the dark at room temperature exhibited better long-term stability. Weak particle agglomeration began at approximately the 100 th day. The AgNPs stored in the dark at about 5℃ exhibited the best long-term stability; the AgNPs stored under such conditions remained spherical, with a narrow size distribution, and stable(no agglomeration) even after 6 months. Zeta-potential measurements confirmed better dispersity and stability of AgNPs stored under these conditions.

BACKGROUND Oral treatment of glucosamine(GA) combined with chondroitin sulfate(CS) was reportedly effective for pain relief and function improvement in osteoarthritis patients with moderate to severe knee pain in clinical trials. While the effectiveness of GA and CS on both clinical and radiological findings has been demonstrated, only a few high-quality trials exist. Therefore, controversy regarding their effectiveness in real-world clinical practice *** To investigate the impact of GA + CS on clinical outcomes of patients with knee and hip osteoarthritis in routine clinical *** A multicenter prospective observational cohort study included 1102 patients of both genders with knee or hip osteoarthritis(Kellgren & Lawrence grades Ⅰ-Ⅲ) in 51 clinical centers in the Russian Federation from November 20, 2017, to march 20,2020, who had started to receive oral capsules of glucosamine hydrochloride 500 mg and CS 400mg according to the approved patient information leaflet starting from 3 capsules daily for 3 wk,followed by a reduced dosage of 2 capsules daily before study inclusion(minimal recommended treatment duration is 3-6 mo). Changes in subscale scores [Pain, Symptoms, Function, and Quality of Life(QOL)] of the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score(KOOS)/Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score(HOOS) questionnaires during the observational period(up to 54-64wk with a total of 4 visits). Grain production in the countries of the former USSR sharply declined during the past two decades and has only recently started to recover. In the context of the current economic and food-price crisis, Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan might be presented with a window of opportunity to reemerge on the global agricultural market, if they succeed in increasing their productivity. The future of their agriculture, however, is highly sensitive to a combination of internal and external factors, such as institutional changes, land-use changes, climate variability and change, and global economic trends. The future of this region＇s grain production is likely to have a significant impact on the global and regional food security over the next decades.
