Few cases of Liposarcoma of the spermatic cord have been reported in the literature. This rare tumor represents 7% of malignant tumors of the spermatic cord. We report a case of an unusual liposarcoma of the spermatic cord, with respect to its sclerosing variant, occurring in a healthy looking 42 years old man. A wide local excision of the tumor was performed. Adjuvant radiotherapy may sometimes be effective on local recurrence. Even though this tumor evolves slowly, a prolonged follow up is required because of the risk of late recurrence.

Comparison between FIB-4 Index and Fibroscan as Marker of Fibrosis in Chronic HCV Infection in Egyptian Patients

The FIB-4 index is a simple and noninvasive algorithm consisting to evaluate liver fibrosis in chronic HCV infection. Aim: To evaluate the utility of FIB-4 index as a noninvasive marker to assess liver fibrosis in chronic HCV infection in comparison to transient elastography. Patients and Methods: We studied 30 patients having chronic HCV infection based on clinical features, laboratory tests, diagnostics images, Fibroscan and FIB-4 score. According to the results of Fibroscan, the 30 patients were classified into two groups in order to obtain a cutoff value to exclude patient with significant fibrosis: group Ia: 7 patients with no or mild liver fibrosis (F0-F1) and group Ib: 23 pa-tients with significant fibrosis or cirrhosis (F2-F3-F4). Group IIa: 17 patients with no or significant fibrosis (F0-F1-F2-F3) and group IIb (F4): 13 patients with cirrhosis (F4). Results: The mean of FIB-4 index increased with the increase of the fibrosis score. FIB-4 index proved to be sensitive and specific in differentiation between patients with no or mild fibrosis (F0-F1) and patients with significant fibrosis or cirrhosis (F2-F3-F4) with the best cutoff value at 1.61. It also proved to be sensitive and specific in differentiation between patients with no or significant fibrosis (F0-F1-F2-F3) and patients with cirrhosis (F4) with cutoff value at 1.88. Conclusion: The FIB-4 index enabled the correct identification of extreme types of fibrosis. Using these cutoffs (1.61 - 1.88), 87% of patients fell outside these ranges and could thus avoid liverbiopsy with an overall accuracy of 70%.

This paper describes in details a new design of a fully automated multiple output micropotentiometer (?pot). A prototype has been built at the National Institute for Standards (NIS), Egypt to establish this highly improved AC voltage source in the millivolt range. The new device offers three different outputs covering a wide frequency range from only one outlet. This valuably supports the precise sourcing ranges of low AC voltage at NIS. The design and the operation theory of this prototype have been discussed in details. An automatic calibration technique has been introduced through specially designed software using the LabVIEW program to enhance the calibration technique and to reduce the uncertainty contributions. Relative small AC-DC differences of our prototype in the three output ranges are fairly verified. The expanded uncertainties of the calibration results for the three output ranges have been faithfully estimated. However, further work is needed to achieve the optimum performance of this new device.

The effect of four dried callus powders derived from certain plants, i. e. tomato, Lycopersicon esculentum; periwinkle, Catharanthus roseus; thorne apple, Datura stramonium and oleander, Nerium oleander applied separately or concomitantly with oxamyl at a half of the recommended dose each on tomato seedlings grown in soil naturally heavy infested with M. incognita under field conditions, indicated that dried callus powder derived from N. oleander either alone or mixed with oxamyl significantly surpassed the other tested treatments in improving percentages of increase in whole plant fresh and shoot dry weights as well as increasing numbers and weights of fruits. Concerning other treatments including oxamyl at a half of recommended dose with each tested callus powder, similar results were evident regarding tomato plant growth parameters. C. roseus plus oxamyl achieved the highest percentage of increase in whole plant fresh weight (141.4%) and shoot dry weight (189.7%) and ranked second to N. oleander + oxamyl in this respect over the untreated plants, respectively. One the other hand, among all tested materials single application of either L. esculentum or oxamyl gave the least values of such criteria which averaged 34.4% and 61.7% or 39.5% and 11.2%, respectively. All tested treatments significantly reduced the total number of galls, egg-masses and eggs in egg-masses especially, dried callus powder of N. oleander which applied singly or combined with oxamyl. The least values of reduction percentages of galls and eggs in egg-masses among all treatments were recorded from tomato plant received dried callus powders of L. esculentum applied alone or concomitant with oxamyl.

＜正＞This study was carried out at the Experimental Farm of Rice Research and Training Center （RRTC）, Sakha, Kafr el-Sheikh, Egypt, during 2002 and 2003 rice seasons, to determine the productivity of two Egyptian rice cultivars namely, SK 2025H （hybrid） and Sakha 104 （inbred） grown under four irrigation regimes namely, continuous flooding, continuous saturation, irrigation every 6 and 8 days and six time application of nitrogen. All nitrogen （N,） dose applied as basal and incorporated into the dry soil, （N2） 1/2 basal and 1/2 at panicle initiation （PI）, （N3） 2/3 basal and 1/3 at PI, （N4）1/2 basal, 1/4 at mid tillering （MT） and 1/4 at PI, （N5） three equal doses as basal, MT and PI, （N6） four equal doses as basal, MT, PI and flowering.

There is a growing body of evidence showing a close correlation between left ventricular mass with cardiovascular morbidity and overall mortality. Therefore, identifying the determinants of left ventricular hypertrophy can be of great importance for cardiovascular prevention, for prognosis and therapeutic intervention. Objective: To assess the prevalence and identify the independent determinants of echocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy in The MA-Ghreb and Sub-Saharan Africa Left-Ventricul ArGEometry Study (MAG-SALVAGES) participants. Methods: The MAG-SALVAGES is a community based study in which 100 asymptomatic Black Sub-Saharan African (BSSA) and 189 white skin Maghreb within the age of 18 to 55 years underwent a resting echocardiography. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was utilized to identify the independent determinants of LVH left ventricular hypertrophy. Results: Men represented the majority of the enrolled participants: 173 (59.9%). Echocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy was seen in 10 (3.5%) participants. Age ≥40 years, female gender, overall obesity, abdominal obesity, hypertension status and less fruit consumption were significantly associated with echocardiography left ventricular hypertrophy. After adjusting for confounding factors, age ≥40 years, female gender, abdominal obesity and less fruit consumption were independently and significantly associated with echocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy, as illustrated in the following equation: Y = 0.36 + 0.162 age >40 years + 2.69 female gender + 2.52 abdominal obesity + 1.31 less fruit consumption. Conclusion: Lifestyle changes for the prevention of abdominal obesity and encouraging fruit consumption may be beneficial in preventing left ventricular hypertrophy.

The professional stress is a physical and emotional harmful reaction. In fact, it presents a major public health problem in Morocco. Our work is directed to study the differences between the various groups of professional and non-professional drivers in terms of stress reactions, noise nuisance and implication in the production accidents. The present study is transversal descriptive type based on a questionnaire and neuropsychological tests conducted by 60 non-professional drivers and 60 taxi drivers in Kenitra. Two scales evaluated the stress: the Resistance Test of Stress (TRS) and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). According to this last scale, 63.5% of the taxi drivers were considered as stressed. These drivers have the following specific components: mood trouble, sleep trouble, pressure of time, work boredom, stress sensation and tiredness at the end of driving. 65% of drivers take a pause after 5 to 6 hours of work. According to the Test of Resistance at the Stress, the taxi driver’s populations are more homogeneous but are less likely to resist stress compared to their non-professionals counterparts. Indeed to work on the professional stress requires a qualitative and quantitative approach phenomenon allowing a more complete vision. This study sheds new light on the understanding of stress at work by using new measurement and evaluation methods such as TRS, with an aim to reduce or to eliminate the number of road accident.

The new ferrous-selective modified carbon paste electrodes (I and II) based on 5,5’-(propane-1,3-diylbis(sulfanediyl))bis(3-benzyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-4-amine) (electrode I, A-ionophore) and 5,5’-(butane-1,4-diyl-bis(sulfane- diyl))bis(3-benzyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-4-amine) (electrode II, B-ionophore) as ionophores are described. These electrodes exhibit Nernstian slopes of 30.2 ± 0.5 and 29.1 ± 0.5 mV·decade-1, linear range of 1.0 × 10-7 - 1.0 × 10-2 mol·L-1 Fe(II) ion and detection limit of 1.0 × 10-7 mol·L-1 Fe(II) ion for electrode (I) and electrode (II), respectively. Both electrodes (I and II) have a fast response time of about 15 sand can be used for at least 3 months. The two electrodes revealed a good selectivity for Fe(II) over a wide variety of other metal ions and could be used in the pH range of 1.8 - 3.0 without any divergence in potential. The proposed sensors were successfully applied for the determination of Fe(II) ion in different real samples.

对贮藏2和4个月的瓶装芒果汁进行分析,以了解有害果汁品质的芳香物的变化情况。85℃下果汁经10分钟加热处理,蒸发使所有挥发性馏份含量降低,并生成乙酰呋喃、5-甲基糠醛、β-萜品醇、萜品烯-4-醇和丁基-3-羟基丁酸酯,这些化合物在鲜果汁内是没有的。它们的出现归因于降解反应,尤其是维生素C。室温下贮藏瓶装芒果汁,除碳氢化合物和氧化合物含量降低外,还生成乙基脂肪酸和芹子烯-11-4醇,从而影响芒果汁风味。瓶装芒果汁热处理和贮藏产生的不利因子是呋喃衍生物,α-和β-萜品醇,萜品烯-4-醇以及脂肪酸乙酯。
