Tropical rainfore.ts are.crucial in maintaining about 70% of the.world’s plant and animal biodive.sity and are.also the.highe.t te.re.trial carbon re.e.voir. This study aime. to de.e.mine.the.tre. spe.ie. composition, structure.and carbon stocks of the.De.g De.g National Park which is a se.i-de.iduous tropical fore.t (plots 1 and 2 and the.transition zone.to the.savannah (plot 3). Plots de.arcation and e.ume.ation followe. standard protocols for pe.mane.t monitoring plots. The.inve.tory of tre. spe.ie. ≥ 2 cm re.e.le. a total of 5523 individuals of 64 spe.ie. in 53 ge.e.a be.onging to 26 familie. with plot 2 having the.highe.t (2135 individuals/ha) and plot 3 the.le.st (1291 individuals/ha). Tabe.nae.ontana crassa was the.most important tre. spe.ie. in the.tropical fore.t and Le.ythis idatimon in the.savannah. Basal are. was highe.t in the.tropical fore.t and le.st in the.savannah. The.diame.e. distribution of tre.s in all fore.t type. displaye. a re.e.se.J-patte.n. Above.round biomass was highe.t in the.tropical fore.t (530.2 ± 66.4 t·C/ha) and le.st in the.savannah (184.3 ± 20.1 t·C/ha). The.carbon stock of the.above.ground biomass was twice.as much as that of the.be.ow ground biomass, soil organic matte. and litte.. The.total carbon stock e.timate. in all pools was 278.75 t·C/ha. The.study site.was poor in plant dive.sity, biomass and carbon stock, indicating a disturbe. site.with the.abse.ce.of large.tre.s and unde.going natural re.e.e.ation. This unde.line. an urge.t ne.d for e.ficie.t re.toration manage.e.t practice..
