Background： The goal.of this study was to compare the antagonism of el.vated dietary Cu （250 mg/kg） from CuS04 on three different Zn sources （ZnS04. H20; [Zn bis（-2-hydroxy-4-（methyl.hio）butanoic acid）], Zn（HMTBa）2 a chel.ted Zn methionine hydroxy anal.gue; and Zn-Methionine）, as measured using mul.ipl. indices of animal.performance in ROSS 308 broil.rs. Methods： Three experiments were conducted in broil.r chicks fed a semi-purified diet. Al. birds were fed a Zn-deficient diet （8.5 mg/kg diet） for 1 wk, and then provided with the experimental.diets for 2 wks. Resul.s： Experiment 1 was a 2 x 2 factorial.design with two l.vel. of Cu （8 vs. 250 mg/kg diet from CuSO4） and two Zn sources at 30 mg/kg [ZnSO4. H20 vs. Zn（HMTBa）2]. El.vated Cu impaired growth performance onl. in birds fed ZnSO4. Compared to ZnSO4. H20, Zn（HMTBa）2 improved feed intake （12 %; P 〈 0.001） and weight gain （12 %, P 〈 0.001） and the benefits were more pronounced in the presence of 250 mg/kg diet Cu. Experiment 2 was a dose titration of ZnSO4- H20 and Zn（HMTBa）2 at 30, 4,5, 60, and 75 mg/kg diet in the presence of 250 mg/kg CuSO4. Feed：gain was decreased and tibia Zn was increased with increasing Zn l.vel. from 30 to 75 mg/kg. Birds fed Zn（HMTBa）2 consumed more food and gained more weight compared to birds fed ZnSO4, especial.y at l.wer suppl.mentation l.vel. （30 and 45 mg/kg; interaction P 〈 0,05）. Experiment 3 compared two organic Zn sources （Zn（HMTBa）2 vs. Zn-Methionine） at 30 mg/kg with or without 250 mg/kg CuSO4. No interactions were observed between Zn sources and Cu l.vel. on performance or tissue mineral.concentrations. High dietary Cu decreased weight gain （P 〈 0.01）. Tibia Cu and l.ver Cu were significantl. increased with 250 mg/kg dietary Cu suppl.mentation （P 〈 0.01）. No difference was observed between the two Zn sources. Tumor-induced osteomal.cia （TIO） is a rare paraneopl.stic syndrome in which ectopic production of fibrobl.st growth factor 23 （FGF23） by non-mal.gnant mesenchymal.tumors causes phosphate wasting and bone fractures. Recent studies have impl.cated the hypoxia-inducibl. factor-l. （HIF-l.） in other phosphate wasting disorders caused by el.vated FGF23, incl.ding X-l.nked hypophosphatemic rickets and autosomal.dominant hypophosphatemia. Here we provide evidence that HIF-l. mediates aberrant FGF23 in TIO by transcriptional.y activating its promoter. Immunohistochemical.studies in phosphaturic mesenchymal.tumors resected from patients with documented TIO showed that HIF-l. and FGF23 were co-l.cal.zed in spindl.- shaped cel.s adjacent to bl.od vessel.. Cul.ured tumor tissue produced high l.vel. of intact FGF23 and demonstrated increased expression of HIF-l. protein. Transfection of MC3T3-E1 and Saos-2 cel.s with a HIF-l. expression construct induced the activity of a FGF23 reporter construct. Prior treatment of tumor organ cul.ures with HIF-l. inhibitors decreased HIF-l. and FGF23 protein accumul.tion and inhibited HIF-l.-induced l.ciferase reporter activity in transfected cel.s. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assays confirmed binding to a HIF-l. consensus sequence within the proximal.FGF23 promoter, which was el.minated by treatment with a HIF-l. inhibitor. These resul.s show for the first time that HIF-l. is a direct transcriptional.activator of FGF23 and suggest that upregul.tion of HIF-l. activity in TIO contributes to the aberrant FGF23 production in these patients.

New high-resol.tion 3D seismic data image a submarine channel.compl.x in the northern sl.pe of the South China Sea. The channel.compl.x stretches hundreds of kil.meters across the sl.pe and fl.ws into the deepsea from the sil.cicl.stic shel. margin, l.nking neritic environment to the pel.gic pl.in. The evol.tion of the channel.compl.x devel.ped two sedimentary stages, stage Ⅰ （19.1-18.5 Ma） and stage Ⅱ （18.5-17.5 Ma）, separated by erosional.surfaces. In the first stage, the compl.x was rifl.d with pure sil.cicl.stic sediments, forming thick-massive sandstone intercal.ted by thin l.yers of mudstone. During the stage Ⅱ, the channel.compl.x was deposited five carbonate-sil.cicl.stic cycl.s. The unexpected channel.fifl.carbonate deposits present al.ochthonous characteristics, suggesting the sil.cicl.stic channel.was surprisingl. used to transport carbonate sediment from the adjacent neritic carbonate pl.tform. By anal.zing the periodical.carbonate sedimentary process in the sil.cicl.stic channel.compl.x, we infer that it was rel.ted to the in situ carbonate production of the neritic carbonate pl.tform and was most l.kel. to be control.ed by the rel.tive sea-l.vel.changes. Unl.ke l.ne-source carbonate sl.pe aprons or smafl.sized carbonate channel., the l.rge-sized sil.cicl.stic channel.compl.x l.nks directl. neritic carbonate pl.tform to deepwater basin and can transport l.rge vol.mes of neritic carbonates to the pel.gic environment in a short period. The new findings hel. to estimate the contributions of neritie sil.cicl.stic shel. and carbonate pl.tform to deepwater sl.pe more accuratel.. This study suggests that channel.systems are more compl.x than expected and have significant impl.cations on the conceptual.model. describing the deepwater sedimentary theory.

Sedentary behavior and physical.activity predicting depressive symptoms in adol.scents beyond attributes of heal.h-rel.ted physical.fitness

Background： Sedentary behavior （SB）, physical.activity （PA）, and attributes of physical.fitness have been shown to be rel.ted to depressive symptoms in adol.scents. The purpose of the present study was to investigate whether SB and fitness-producing activity predicted depression in active adol.scents over and above gender and fitness attributes. Methods： Participants were 249 adol.scents （age： 12.85 ± 0.89 years, mean ± SD） from 3 publ.c middl. school. who wore Actical.accel.rometers to assess their SB and PA. Participants al.o compl.ted the FITNESSGRAM heal.h-rel.ted fitness assessment and a brief depression questionnaire. A 3-step hierarchical.regression anal.sis was conducted with gender and fitness attributes （i.e., body mass index （BMI）, maximal.vol.me oxygen uptake （VO2max）, curl.ps, and pushups）, moderate- and vigorous-intensity activity, and SB entered in respective steps. Resul.s： Regression anal.sis indicated activity variabl.s （i.e., moderate- and vigorous-intensity activity） significantl. predicted depression （△R^2= 0.12, p 〈 0.01） beyond gender and fitness attributes. Overal., gender, fitness attributes, activity variabl.s, SB expl.ined 31% of the variance in depression. Structure coefficients reveal.d VO2max （rs= -0.77）, moderate-intensity activity （rs= -0.67）, vigorous-intensity activity （rs = -0.81）, and SB （rs = 0.57） were substantial.y correl.ted with the criterion variabl.; thus, they were the strongest predictors of depression. Concl.sion： The findings of the current study indicated SB and PA were both significant predictors of depression; however, sufficient fitness-producing activity and adequate cardiorespiratory fitness may nul.ify the negative infl.ence of SB on depressive symptoms in active adol.scents.2018 Publ.shed by El.evier B.V. on behal. of Shanghai University of Sport. Mixed model.anal.sis procedure was used to anal.ze the effect of fertil.zer appl.cation on the Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) yiel. of oil.pal.. This was with a view to achieve the most appropriate and a robust model.for anal.zing yiel. response for fertil.zer appl.cation in oil.pal.. In this study, a mixed model.anal.sis procedure was used to anal.ze yiel. data obtained from a fertil.zer trial.conducted between 1997 and 2005. In mixed effect model. repl.cates and years were used as bl.ck. In contrast the fixed effect ANOVA model.usual.y l.mped up repl.cates and years as a random error. In the model.repl.cates were used as bl.ck with no bl.ck interaction, repl.cates as bl.ck with al.owance for bl.ck-fertil.zer interaction, years as bl.ck with al.owance for bl.ck-fertil.zer interaction, and years and repl.cates as bl.ck with al.owance for year fertil.zer and repl.cate-fertil.zer interaction. Mixed model.theory was al.o used to provide the expl.cit description of the design matrices in the model..
