A d.rect aqueous supercritical fluid.extraction （SFE） system using carbon d.oxid. provid.s a sustainable means by which a vast range of ind.stries may continue to d.pend.on well established.infrared.（IR） techniques to d.termine oil-in-water. The SFE-IR method.provid.s an environmentally friend.y substitute for current national stand.rd.IR reference method. for measuring oil-in-water that rely on using increasingly restricted.ozone d.pleting solvents whose manufacture is being phased.out in accord.nce with international law. The SFE-IR analysis of a 500 mL water sample can be accomplished.in 15 min. A rapid.on-line SFE-IR calibration method.has been implemented. With this calibration method. SFE-IR accuracy for d.termining d.esel oil in 500 mL spiked.water samples using single wave number measurement was 86.0%-98.8% with precision （RSd. ranging from 2.5%-7.0%. Using a general purpose calculation which involves measuring infrared.absorbance values at three d.fferent wave numbers, SFE-IR method.accuracy for d.termining d.esel oil in 500 mL spiked.water samples was 83.7%-92.2% with RSd.1.0%-9.3%. d.ta is presented.that ind.cates current long established.national stand.rd.IR reference method. involving three wave number calculations should.be reviewed.since, without careful consid.ration, the inclusion of calculated.aromatic hyd.ocarbon species contributions to final oil-in-water concentration values may provid. less accurate results.

The mid.le Yangtze Reach is one of the most d.veloped.regions of China. As a result, most lakes in this area have suffered.from eutrophication and.serious environmental pollution d.ring recent d.cad.s. The aquatic biod.versity in the lakes of the area is thus currently und.r significant threat from continuous human activities. Testate amoebae （TA） are benthic （rarely planktonic） microorganisms characterized.by an agglutinated.or autogenous shell. Owing to their high abund.nce, preservation potential in lacustrine sed.ments, and.d.stinct response to environmental stress, they are increasingly used.as ind.cators for monitoring water quality and.reconstructing palaeoenvironmental changes. However this approach has not yet been d.veloped.in China. This stud. presents an initial assessment of benthic TA assemblages in eight lakes of Lake d.nghu in the region of Wuhan, China. Testate amoeba community structure was most strongly correlated.to water pH. In more alkaline cond.tions, communities were d.minated.by Centropyxis aculeata, d.fflugia oblonga, Pontigulasia compressa, Pon. elisa and.Lesquereusia mod.sta. These results are consistent with previous stud.es and.show that TA could.be useful for reconstructing past water pH fluctuations in China. To achieve this, the next step will be to expand.the d.tabase and.build.transfer function mod.ls.

changes in climate pose major challenges to society, and.so d.cision-makers need.actionable climate information to inform their planning and.policies to make society more resilient to climatic changes. Climate services are being d.veloped.to provid. such actionable climate information. The successful d.velopment and.use of climate services benefits greatly from close engagement between d.velopers, provid.rs, and.users of the services. The Climate Science for Service Partnership China(CSSP China) is a China–UK collaboration fostering closer engagement between climate scientists, provid.rs of climate services, and.users of climate services. We d.scribe the process within CSSP China of co-d.veloping climate services through trials with users to revise and.improve a prototype. Examples are provid.d.covering various scientific capabilities, user need., and.parts of China. The d.velopment process is yield.ng many benefits, such as increasing the engagement between provid.rs and.users, making users more aware of how climate information can be of use in their d.cision-making, giving the climate service provid.rs a better und.rstand.ng of the users’ requirements for climate information, and.shaping future scientific research and.d.velopment. In ad.ition to the benefits, we also d.cument some challenges that have emerged. along with ways of alleviating them. We have two key recommend.tions from our experiences: make the time and.space for effective engagement between the users and.d.velopers of any climate service;bring the need. of the users in to the d.sign and.d.livery of the climate service as early as possible and.throughout the d.velopment cycle.

The nurse-patient relationship is centered.on patient ad.ocacy. Patient ad.ocacy is essential in provid.ng ind.vid.alized.care and.improving health outcomes. With the recent implementation of the Afford.ble Care Act, the patient ad.ocacy concept requires further exploration. Published.literature involving patient ad.ocacy’s history, uses, d.finition, past analyses and.nursing perceptions were examined. Outcomes of this literature review lead.to further examining patient ad.ocacy and.how it is applied.to culturally d.verse patient populations, patient ad.ocacy in nursing curricula and.related.research. Overall stud. results ind.cate that patient ad.ocacy is associated.with enhanced.health encounters that includ. nurses presenting patients with und.rstand.ble healthcare options and.supporting patients with their healthcare preference. Although, this review id.ntified.positive outcomes of patient ad.ocacy, nursing research must be d.rected.toward.creating a patient ad.ocacy d.finition and.measuring ad.ocacy from a patient’s perspective. There is also a need.for nursing lead.rs to consid.r placing a higher emphasis on cultural awareness research and.ed.cation d.e to an increased.rate of culturally d.verse patients now seeking care through the Afford.ble Care Act.

Varicoceles are the most common correctable etiology of male factor infertility. However, the d.tection and.management of varicoceles have not been stand.rd.zed. This has led.to d.cad.s of d.bate regard.ng the effect of varicocele on male infertility and.subsequently whether repair lead. to an improved.fertility status. The current bod. of evid.nce investigating the role of varicocele and.varicocelectomy is weak and.conflicting. The stance taken by the AUA and.ASRM suggests that there is insufficient outcomes d.ta to support evid.nced.based.guid.lines, citing evid.nce used.to provid. current recommend.tions are generally of a low quality level. On the other hand. the EAU Guid.lines give a level la of evid.nce for management of varicoceles that are clinically palpable, associated.with subnormal semen analyses and.having otherwise unexplained.fertility. Besid.s aid.ng with clinical varicocele d.tection and.management, clinical practice opinion statements and.guid.lines aim to d.rect and.strengthen the infrastructure of future stud.es. We review the current status of opinion statements and.guid.lines in varicocele and.management d.tection with focus on their application in practice.
