Our application of bionic engineering is novel： we are interested.in d.veloping hybrid.hard.are-wetware systems for music. This paper introd.ces receptacles for culturing Physarum polycephalum-based.memristors that are highly accessible to the creative practitioner. The myxomycete Physarum polycephalum is an amorphous unicellular organism that has been found.to exhibit memristive properties. Such a d.scovery has potential to allow us to move toward. engineering electrical systems that encompass Physarum polycephalum components. To realise this potential, it is necessary to ad.ress some of the constraints associated.with harnessing living biological entities in systems for real-time application. Within the paper, we present 3d.printed.receptacles d.signed.to stand.rd.se both the prod.ction of components and.memristive observations. Subsequent testing showed.a significant d.crease in growth time, increased.lifespan, and.superior similarity in component-to-component responses. The results ind.cate that our receptacle d.sign may provid. means of implementing hybrid.electrical systems for music technology.

The skirt-to-shell junction weld.on coke d.ums is susceptible to fatigue failure d.e to severe thermal cyclic stresses. One method.to d.crease junction stress is to ad. slots near the top of the skirt, thereby red.cing the local stiffness close to the weld. The most common skirt slot d.sign is thin relative to its circumferential spacing. A new slot d.sign, which is significantly wid.r, is proposed. In this stud., thermal-mechanical elastoplastic 3-d.finite element mod.ls of coke d.ums are created.to analyze the effect of d.fferent skirt d.signs on the stress/strain field.near the shell-to-skirt junction weld. as well as any other critical stress locations in the overall skirt d.sign. The results confirm that the inclusion of the conventional slot d.sign effectively red.ces stress in the junction weld. However, it has also been found.that the critical stress location migrates from the shell-to-skirt junction weld.to the slot end.. A method.is used.to estimate the fatigue life near the critical areas of each skirt slot d.sign. It is found.that wid.r skirt slots provid. a significant improvement on fatigue life in the weld.and.slot area.

Here the authors critically review the IPCC＇s claim that global warming is ＂very likely＂ caused.by human activity： such a d.scription und.restimates the likelihood.of the warming being d.e to this mechanism. Next examined.are known alternative ＂natural＂ mechanisms which could.give rise to the warming if, d.spite many claims, the man-mad. explanation was false because of compensation effects （greenhouse gases versus aerosol effects）. Enhancement of the Human Immunod.ficiency Virus (HIV) specific cytotoxic T-cells mechanisms in an HIV-1 and.Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) co-infected.ind.vid.al seems to improve the clinical picture of an ind.vid.al by red.cing Acquired.Immuno d.ficiency Synd.ome (AId.) state progression rate. In this paper, we d.velop a system of d.terministic d.fferential equations representing the immune cells involved.in an HIV-1 and.Mtb co-infected.ind.vid.al. Results show that although the non-lytic arm of the HIV-1 cytotoxic T-cells affects the co-infection d.namics more than the lytic factors, a combination of both factors results in a more positive red.ced.progression to the AId. state. This is d.e to the increased.protection of the Cd.+ T-cells by the CTL mechanisms by further red.cing infections and.replications by the HIV. Thus, HIV-1 specific CTLs mechanisms’ involvement is here recommend.d.to be part of a solution to the HIV and.Mtb co-infection problems.

The importance of particle shape in terms of its effects on the behaviour of powd.rs and.other particulate systems has long been recognised. but particle shape information has been rather d.fficult to obtain and.use until fairly recently, unlike its better-known counterpart, particle size. However, ad.ances in computing power and.3d.image acquisition and.analysis techniques have resulted.in major progress being mad. in the measurement, d.scription and.application of particle shape information in recent years. Because we are now in a d.gital era, it is fitting that many of these ad.anced.techniques are based.on d.gital technology. This review article aims to trace the d.velopment of these new techniques, highlight their contributions to both acad.mic and.practical applications, and.present a perspective for future d.velopments.

Alternative contracting techniques have been frequently used.in highway construction in the United.State and.have played.an important role in the effort to improve construction project performance. However, it is still unknown whether which project factors have significant influence on project performance. It is essential to learn from the experiences and.opinions of construction project managers who had.executed.innovative or alternative contracts in ord.r to improve and.refine the usage of alternative contracting method.. Innovative contracting method. have been used.by state d.partments of Transportation for many years, so there is now sufficient d.ta to measure the effectiveness of these innovations. Working und.r a grant from the Florid. d.partment of Transportation （Fd.T）, the research team used.the experiences and.opinions of construction field.engineers who had.executed.innovative contracts on Fd.T projects to measure the effectiveness of these systems. To that end. interviews were cond.cted.with Fd.T and.consultant personnel from across Florid.. All interviewed.were project managers who had.overseen at least one project using an innovative contracting method. d.scussions brought enthusiastic responses from those interviewed. both for and.against certain innovations. This paper will focus on the experiences and.opinions of those experienced.construction field.engineers d.aling with well-known innovations, as well as newer innovations such as ＂d.tour Rental＂ and.＂d.mage Recovery＂.

The past two d.cad.s have seen a rapid.ad.ption of artificial intelligence method. applied.to mineral exploration. More recently, the easier acquisition of some types of d.ta has inspired.a broad.literature that has examined.many machine learning and.mod.lling techniques that combine exploration criteria,or ’features’, to generate pred.ctions for mineral prospectivity. Central to the d.sign of prospectivity mod.ls is a ’mineral system’, a conceptual mod.l d.scribing the key geological elements that control the timing and.location of economic mineralisation. The mineral systems mod.l d.fines what constitutes a training set, which features represent geological evid.nce of mineralisation, how features are engineered.and.what mod.lling method. are used. Mineral systems are knowled.e-d.iven conceptual mod.ls, thus all parameter choices are subject to human biases and.opinion so alternative mod.ls are ***, the effect of alternative mineral systems mod.ls on prospectivity is rarely compared.d.spite the potential to heavily influence final pred.ctions. In this stud., we focus on the effect of conceptual uncertainty on Fe ore prospectivity mod.ls in the Hamersley region, Western Australia.
