Analysis of the Influence of New Usages on the State of Conservation of Historical Buildings through Microclimate Character.zation

recycling is an alternative for preserving historical heritage buildings. Through such process, buildings are occupied by new usages that assure they are not abandoned. However, conservation issues, like pathological manifestations by filamentous fungi, are common even in buildings receiving new uses. Thus, it is extremely important to know the microclimate behavior of these buildings and analyze if there are usages that favor the appearance of filamentous fungi or not. This study aims to verify if new usages modify the microclimate in historical buildings and if such possible change favors the appearance of pathological manifestations by filamentous fimgi in some specific use. To achieve the results, three buildings that have gone through recycling processes were chosen in the city of pelotas, in Southernmost Br.zil. The city possesses a large number of buildings with historical value and its climate conditions are propitious for appearance of filamentous fungi. For 12 months, microclimate was monitored, the environments modus operandi was character.zed and there was a survey on the pathological manifestations by filamentous fungi in the three buildings with two different uses： administration offices and exhibition rooms. Conclusion was that usages that allow natural ventilation and lighting favor conservation, which is what happens in the ones used as administration offices. Besides that, it was noticed that the construction system also influences, since buildings with a high cellar that is being used did not present filamentous fungi, which also shows the influence of ascending humidity on the appearance of such pathological manifestations.

Embryo and Endosperm phytochemicals from polyembryonic Maize Kernels and Their relationship with Seed Germination

Because of the growing worldwide demand for maize grain,new alternatives have been sought for breeding of this cereal,e.g.,development of polyembryonic varieties,which agronomic performance could positively impact the grain yield per unit area,and nutritional *** objectives of this study were to(1)determine the phytochemicals present in the embryo and endosperm of grain from maize families with high,low,and null polyembryony frequency,which were planted at different locations,and(2)state the relationship between these compounds and seed *** extracted phytochemicals from corn were identified by *** results showed that the genotype with the highest presence of phytochemicals was the brachytic population with high polyembryony called“BAp”,which also required less water during the germination *** number of phytochemicals in both embryo and endosperm tissues was not related to the sowing location where they came from or the type of *** number of different phytochemicals depended on the grain tissue from where they were *** chemical compounds found in the different maize tissues were related to the development of the plant,either in roots or nibs because these are mainly associated with the lignin synthesis.

Metadoxine improves the three- and six-month survival rates in patients with severe alcoholic hepatitis

AIM:To evaluate the impact of metadoxine(MTD) on the 3- and 6-mo survival of patients with severe alcoholic hepatitis(AH).METHODS:This study was an open-label clinical trial,performed at the"Hospital General de México,*** Liceaga".We randomized 135 patients who met the criteria for severe AH into the following groups:35 patients received prednisone(pDN)40 mg/d,35patients received pDN+MTD 500 mg three times daily,33 patients received pentoxifylline(pTX)400 mg three times daily,and 32 patients received pTX+MTD 500 mg three times *** duration of the treatment for all of the groups was 30 ***:In the groups treated with the MTD,thesurvival rate was higher at 3 mo(pTX+MTD 59.4%vs pTX 33.3%,p=0.04;pDN+MTD 68.6%vs pDN20%,p=0.0001)and at 6 mo(pTX+MTD 50%vs pTX18.2%,p=0.01;pDN+MTD 48.6%vs pDN 20%,p=0.003)than in the groups not treated with MTD.A relapse in alcohol intake was the primary independent factor predicting mortality at 6 *** patients receiving MTD maintained greater abstinence than those who did not receive it(74.5%vs 59.4%,p=0.02).CONCLUSION:MTD improves the 3-and 6-mo survival rates in patients with severe *** abstinence is a key factor for survival in these *** patients who received the combination therapy with MTD were more likely to maintain abstinence than those who received monotherapy with either pDN or pTX.

Character.zation of fungal pathogens associated with grapevine trunk diseases in Arkansas and Missouri

Grapevine trunk diseases are a major concern to the wine-and table-grape industries worldwide,limiting both vineyard longevity and *** surveys conducted throughout the grape-growing regions of Arkansas and Missouri revealed the presence of three economically important grapevine trunk diseases including,Botryosphaeria canker,Eutypa dieback and *** studies along with multi-gene phylogenetical analyses confirmed the identification of 15 different fungal taxa associated with different vascular *** include Botryosphaeria dothidea,Diatrypella sp.,Diplodia seriata,Dothiorella americana,Eutypa lata,Eutypella vitis,Lasiodiplodia missouriana,Lasiodiplodia viticola,Neofusicoccum ribis,Neofusicoccum vitifusiforme,pestalotiopsis sp.,pestalotiopsis uvicola,phaeomoniella chlamydospora,phomopsis viticola,Schyzophyllum commune,and Togninia *** of these represent new records on grapevines in Arkansas and *** americana,*** and *** are described as new species,and both *** and *** are first reported as grapevine pathogens in North ***’s postulates confirmed the pathogenicity of all fungal species except *** in the interspecific hybrids Vignoles,Chambourcin,Norton,and *** spp.,***,and *** were the most virulent fungi,while ***,*** and *** were considered to be weak *** research highlights the importance that grapevine trunk diseases have on grapevine health in growing regions where,due to different climatological conditions,interspecific hybrid cultivars are predominantly grown.

Influence of Inorganic Salts during the photooxidative process of Nitrobenzene

Into the photooxidation process, several factors such as pH, time of irradiation, dose of UV light, lamp power, contaminant concentration, turbidity of the solution and the presence of salts can interfere with the photodegradation of pollutants. This research aims to evaluate the influence of salts： NaCl, MgCl2, CaCI2, BaC12, CuCl2, Na2SO4, MgSO4, MnSO4, FeSO4, CuSO4, Na3pO4, K2CrO4 and K2Cr207 in concentrations of 0.0005 M, 0.005 M and 0.05 M during photodegradation of aqueous solution of 59.5 mg/L of nitrobenzene at a pH of 2.5. It was observed that the presence of salts such as CuCI2, CuSO4, FeSO4, K2CrO4 and K2Cr207 interfere negatively in the system UV/H202 applied for degradation of nitrobenzene; possibly by oxidation of Fe2＋ to Fe3＋ and Cu＋ to Cu2＋ in the Cr case, due to the difficulty of transforming the Cr6＋ to Cr3＋ or because these solutions have color and act as radiation absorbing filter.

Electrochemical Behavior and Corrosion Study of Electrodeposits of zn and zn-Fe-Co on Steel

From industrialized baths, free of cyanide, the corrosion behavior of electrodeposits of zinc and zinc alloys was studied by means of electrochemical tests in aerated solution of 3.5% (0.6 M) NaCl at pH 8.2. In literature, several studies are found about zinc coatings and zinc alloys, for example, zn-Ni and zn-Co, nevertheless there is little about the ternary alloy zn-Fe-Co. The Fe presence in the alloy results in a good adhesion to the substrate and allows application of these materials at higher temperatures. The electrochemical tests were carried out by obtaining open circuit potential curves with immersion time, potentiodynamic polar.zation curves and cyclic voltammetry. From the obtained results, the large potential differences observed between the steel and the electrodeposits showed that the last protect the substrate, acting as a sacrifice metal. The tests disclosed similar behaviors in both the current densities and the corrosion potential for electrodeposits of zn and zn-Fe-Co. After chromate passivation process, a significant decrease in corrosion density was noted for.zn and when the system was de-aerated there was change in the cathodic process mechanism.

precipitation isotope ratios(O and H)record the history of water phase transitions and fractionation processes during moisture transport and rainfall ***,we evaluated the isotopic composition of precipitation over the central-southeastern region of Br.zil at different *** isotopic compositions were associated with classical effects(rainfall amount,seasonality,and continentality),demonstrating the importance of vapor recirculation processes and different regional atmospheric systems(South American Convergence zone-SACz and Cold Fronts-CF).While moisture recycling and regional atmospheric processes may also be observed on a daily timescale,classical effects such as the amount effect were not strongly correlated(δ^(18)O-precipitation rate r≤-0.37).Daily variability revealed specific climatic features,such asδ^(18)O depleted values(~-6‰to-8‰)during the wet season were associated with strong convective activity and large moisture *** isotopic analysis revealed the role of different moisture sources and transport *** ratios combined with d-excess explain how atmospheric recirculation processes interact with convective activity during rainfall formation *** findings provide a new understanding of rainfall sampling timescales and highlight the importance of water isotopes to decipher key hydrometeorological processes in a complex spatial and temporal context in central-southeastern Br.zil.

First histopathological study in kidneys of rodents naturally infected with Leptospira pathogenic species from Yucatan, Mexico

Objective: To report the renal histological lesions in synanthropic rodents, Mus musculus and rattus rattus, naturally infected with Leptospira spp., captured in a rural community in Yucatan, Mexico. Methods: Kidney samples of synanthropic rodents were collected from a rural community in Yucatan, Mexico. polymerase chain reaction was used to detect Leptospira spp. infection. Tissue kidney was fixed in 10% buffered formalin, processed according to the usual techniques for paraffin inclusion, cut and stained with hematoxylin and eosin, and examined using a conventional electronic microscope. results: A total of 187 rodents were captured. Nine individuals(4.8%) were positive for Leptospira spp. in the molecular analysis. All renal lesions observed in the histopathological study had been reported previously for Leptospira spp. infection. Conclusions: The histopathological lesions are present in the kidneys, plus the results of the polymerase chain reaction confirm that these rodents are true carriers of Leptospira spp.
