In forest modeling to estimate the volume of wood,artificial intelligence has been shown to be quite effi-cient,especially using artificial neural networks(ANNs).Here we tested whether diameter at breast height(DBH)and the total plant height(Ht)of eucalyptus can be pre-dicted at the stand level using spectral bands measured by an unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)multispectral sensor and vegetation *** do so,using the data obtained by the UAV as input variables,we tested different configurations(number of hidden layers and number of neurons in each layer)of ANNs for predicting DBH and Ht at stand level for different Eucalyptus *** experimental design was randomized blocks with four replicates,with 20 trees in each experimental *** treatments comprised five Eucalyptus species(***,***,***,***-dis,and ***)and Corymbria *** and Ht for each plot at the stand level were measured seven times in separate overflights by the UAV,so that the multispectral sensor could obtain spectral bands to calculate vegetation indices(VIs).ANNs were then constructed using spectral bands and VIs as input layers,in addition to the categorical variable (species), to predict DBH and Ht at the stand level simultaneously. This report represents one of the first appli-cations of high-throughput phenotyping for plant size traits in Eucalyptus species. In general, ANNs containing three hidden layers gave better statistical performance (higher esti-mated r, lower estimated root mean squared error-RMSE) due to their greater capacity for self-learning. Among these ANNs, the best contained eight neurons in the first layer, seven in the second, and five in the third (8 − 7 − 5). The results reported here reveal the potential of using the gener-ated models to perform accurate forest inventories based on spectral bands and VIs obtained with a UAV multispectral sensor and ANNs, reducing labor and time.

This study evaluated the expression of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, L-fucose, D-galactose and glucose/mannose on the cell wall surface of Aspergillus species using lectins and the in vitro antifungal activity of AMB （amphotericin B）, VOR （voriconazole） and ITC （itraconazole）. Con A （Concanavalin A）, WGA （wheat germ agglutinin）, UEA-I （Ulex europeus agglutinin I） and PNA （peanut agglutinin）, all conjugated with horseradish peroxidase, were used. For the susceptibility tests, sterilized fiat-bottomed 96-well microtitre plates were used and the procedures were followed of the Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute. The inoculum was added to the wells with the tested drugs and the plates were incubated at 25 ℃ for 48 h before reading the results to determine the MIC （minimal inhibitory concentration） of AMB, VOR and ITC. All Aspergillus strains showed low MIC for AMB （0.031-1 μg/mL） and ITC （0.031-0.25μg/mL）. However, the isolates were less susceptible to VOR, for which the MIC ranged from 4 to 16 μg/mL. The results of this study indicate that the expression of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine and glucose/mannose on the cell wall surface of the Aspergillus species evaluated showed greater stability of expression in the fungal growth both in vitro and in parasitism.

Piper aduncum L. (Piperaceae) has great potential for economic exploration because of the proven use of its essential oil in the agriculture and in the human health. A technique that improves its propagation, as the tissue culture, becomes necessary. Some parameters must be determined for the successful cultivation in vitro. Thus, this study aimed to determine the salts concentration of MS medium, temperature, luminosity and light quality for in vitro culture of this species. The following treatments were conducted: 1/4MS, 1/2MS, MS and 2MS;20℃, 25℃, 30℃ and 35℃;monochromatic blue, red and white lights and the combination of red and blue, using light emitting diodes (LEDs);luminosities of 17, 37, 48 and 73 μmol·m-2·s-1 obtained with cool white fluorescent lamp. After 35 days, the treatments were analyzed. To determine the salts concentration of MS, the variables were evaluated: number of shoots, leaves and roots, length and width of leaves, length and dry mass of root and shoots and percentage of death by necrosis. To the plantlets under different temperatures, length and dry mass of shoot and root, number of shoots, number, length and width of leaves and survival and rooting percentages were measured. The plantlets that were maintained under different luminosities were evaluated for length of shoot and root, dry mass of leaf and root. To evaluate the growth under the LEDs, the length and dry mass of shoot and root, number of shoots and roots, percentage of rooting and sprouting were assessed. The medium 1/4MS and the medium 1/2MS showed better responses for number and length of root, leaf width and shoot length. The temperature 25℃ provided the highest number of leaves, length of shoot and root, root dry mass and rooting percentage. The luminosity 73 μmol·m-2·s-1 provided higher values in length of root and dry mass of leaf and root. The red LED provided plantlets with greater growth. Classical swine fever （CSF） is a highly contagious viral disease of Suidae animals, caused by a Pestivirus from Flaviviridae family, considered one major cause of economic losses to the swine producers. The CSF eradication and control program （CSFECP） established from 1992 evolved to 2001, divide the country in CSF Free Zone, without CSF vaccination and CSF infected area. The purpose of this work was to analyze the CSFECP efficacy in all Brazilian territory from 2000 to 2011 including CSF outbreaks in infected area of North and Northeast regions. CSF epidemiological data were obtained mainly from Federal Agriculture Defense Secretary and States Official Inspection Agencies. The CSF outbreaks occurred in CSF infected area were plotted and the tendency line analyzed by quadratic trend model （Minitab）. The results of Brazilian statutory for CSF point to a gradual CSF-eradication in all country since the number of Federal States including at CSF Free Zone, is increasing and reached 15 of 27 Brazilian States, in period from 2001 to 2009. In seven States of infected area, 49 CSF outbreaks occurred. The stamping out was the main sanitary measure but in two Federal States Amap~. and Rio Grande do Norte the emergency vaccination was also applied. In conclusion, the eradication of CSF of all Brazilian territory is in progress but depend on the continuity of official swine diseases surveillance jointed with a rigorous control of animal movement, serological and viral activities investigations until no more outbreaks could be cited in all country.

BACKGROUND Current guidelines recommend not performing papillary large balloon dilation in patients with nondilated distal bile *** To assess the feasibility of balloon dilation to remove difficult stones in patients with nondilated distal bile *** Data from 1289 endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP)procedures were obtained from two prospective *** 258 cases had difficult stones(>1 cm,multiple>8,impacted,or having a thin distal duct),191 underwent biliary dilation up to 15 mm after endoscopic *** of these cases were retrospectively reviewed in order to classify the distal bile duct and both the stone size and *** outcomes were clearance rate at first ERCP and *** Of the 191 patients(122 women and 69 men;mean age:60 years)who underwent biliary dilation for difficult stones,113(59%)had a nondilated or tapered distal *** with a dilated distal duct were older than those with nondilated distal ducts(mean 68 and 52 years of age,respectively;P<0.05),had more stones(median 4 and 2 stones per patient,respectively;P<0.05),and had less need for additional mechanical lithotripsy(6.4%vs 25%,respectively;P<0.05).Clearance rate at first ERCP was comparable between patients with a dilated(73/78;94%)and nondilated distal ducts(103/113;91%).Procedures were faster in patients with a dilated distal duct(mean 17 vs 24 min,respectively;P<0.005).Complications were similar in both groups(6.4%vs 7.1%,respectively).CONCLUSION Large balloon dilation for difficult stones is feasible in patients with a nondilated or even tapered distal duct.

AIM： To evaluated the therapeutic and prophylactic effect of thalidomide on 2, 4, 6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid （TNBS）-induced colitis. Thalidomide has been reported to downregulate the expression of tumor necrosis factor α （TNF-α）, IL-12, and vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF）, hallmarks of intestinal inflammation in Crohn＇s disease （CD）. METHODS： Male Wistar rats were divided in five groups of ten animals each. Four groups received a rectal infusion of TNBS in ethanol. The first group was sacrificed 7 d after colitis induction. The second and third groups received either thalidomide or placebo by gavage and were sacrificed at 14 d. The fourth group received thalidomide 6 h before TNBS administration, and was sacrificed 7 d after induction. The fifth group acted as the control group and colitis was not induced. Histological inflammatory scores of the colon were performed and lamina propria CD4＋ T cells, macrophages, and VEGF＋ cells were detected by immunohistochemistry. TNF-α and IL-12 were quantified in the supernatant of organ cultures by ELISA. RESULTS： Significant reduction in the inflammatory score and in the percentage of VEGF＋ cells was observed in the group treated with thalidomide compared with animals not treated with thalidomide. Both TNF-α and IL-12 levels were significantly reduced among TNBS induced colitis animals treated with thalidomide compared with animals that did not receive thalidomide. TNF-α levels were also significantly reduced among the animals receiving thalidomide prophylaxis compared with untreated animals with TNBS-induced colitis. Intestinal levels of TNF-α and IL-12 were significantly correlated with the inflammatory score and the number of VEGF＋ cells. CONCLUSION： Thalidomide significantly attenuates TNBS-induced colitis by inhibiting the intestinal production of TNF-α, IL-12, and VEGF. This effect may support the use of thalidomide as an alternate approach in selected patients with CD.
