Physiological plasticity in eucalyptus clones in the vegetative stage contributes to drought tolerance

With the expansion of eucalyptus crops to areas with severe water limitations,physiological studies involving eucalyptus clones to identify those that are tolerant to water stress become *** objective of this study was to assess morphological and physiological responses by eucalyptus clones subjected to drought stress and *** experiment consisted of three eucalyptus clones:VC865,I224 and I144 and two water regimes:control and water stress followed by rehydration,with six *** water potential,gas exchange,maximum quantum efficiency of photo systemⅡand plant height and stem diameter were evaluated under drought stress and ***6 d of rehydration,the number of leaves,leaf area and dry mass of root,leaf,stem and their total were *** clones showed intense reduction of gas exchange during the drought stress period,and only VC865 and 1144 showed rapid recovery with 3 d of *** 1224 showed greater reduction in height,stem diameter,number of leaves,water potential at midday(Ψ_(w)_(Midday)),and maximum quantum efficiency of photosystemⅡ(F_(v)/F_(m)).Clones VC865and T144 showed lower reductions inΨ_(wMidday)and F_(v)/F_(m) under ***865 had lower reductions in leaf number,leaf area and higher leaf dry mass,while clone I144 had higher height and lower reduction in root dry mass *** these clones showed higher water use efficiency with 3d of *** different phenotypic plasticities gave the clones VC865 and 1144 efficient mechanisms of acclimatization to stress and more drought tolerance,enhancing their greater capacity for recovery after stress,which allowed lower dry mass *** 1224,however,was more susceptible to drought stress,undergoing greater physiological damage with only partial recovery during rehydration.

Ni/Carbon Hybrid Prepared by Hydrothermal Carbonization and Thermal Treatment as Support for PtRu Nanoparticles for Direct Methanol Fuel Cell

Ni/Carbon was prepared in two steps： initially cellulose as carbon source and NiCl2·6H2O as catalyst of the carbonization process were submitted to hydrothermal treatment at 200 ℃ and further to thermal treatment at 900 ℃ under argon atmosphere. The obtained material contains Ni nanoparticles with face-centered cubic （fcc） structure dispersed on amorphous carbon with graphitic domains. PtRu/C electrocatalysts （carbon- supported PtRu nanoparticles） were prepared by an alcohol-reduction process using Ni/Carbon as support. The materials were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and tested as anodes in single direct methanol fuel cell （DMFC）. The performances of PtRu/C electrocatalysts using Ni/Carbon as support were superior to those obtained for PtRu/C using commercial carbon black Vulcan XC72 as support.

Cytomegalovirus is the most frequent agent of congenital viral infections,affecting approximately 0.2%-2.4%of live births in different countries[1-7].Universal screening for congenital cytomegalovirus infection in newborns is not a standard practice considering cost-benefit issues and viabil-ity of diagnostic ***,most newborns are asympto-matic and there is no effective treatment for this population[2-5].

Movement behaviors and their association with depressive symptoms in Brazilian adolescents:A cross-sectional study

Background:Physical activity,sleep,and sedentary behaviors compose 24-h movement behaviors and have been independently associated with depressive ***,it is not clear whether it is the movement behavior itself or other contextual factors that are related to depressive *** objective of the present study was to examine the associations between self-reported and accelerometer-measured movement behaviors and depressive symptoms in ***:Cross-sectional data from 610 adolescents(14-18 years old)were *** answered questions from the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale and reported time spent watching videos,playing videogames,using social media,time spent in various physical activities,and daytime ***-worn accelerometers were used to measure sleep duration,sleep efficiency,sedentary time,and physical ***-effects logistic regressions were ***:Almost half of the adolescents(48%)were classified as being at high risk for depression(score≥20).No significant associations were found between depressive symptoms and accelerometer-measured movement behaviors,self-reported non-sport physical activity,watching videos,and playing ***,higher levels of self-reported total physical activity(odd ratio(OR)=0.92,95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.86-0.98)and volume of sports(OR=0.88,95%CI:0.79-0.97),in minutes,were associated with a lower risk of depression,while using social media for either 2.0-3.9 h/day(OR=1.77,95%CI:1.58-2.70)or>3.9 h/day(OR=1.67,95%CI:1.10-2.54),as well as higher levels of daytime sleepiness(OR=1.17,95%CI:1.12-1.22),were associated with a higher risk of ***:What adolescents do when they are active or sedentary may be more important than the time spent in the movement behaviors because it relates to depressive *** daytime sleepiness,promoting sports,and limiting social media use may benefit adolescents.

Dendritic Growth, Eutectic Features and Their Effects on Hardness of a Ternary Sn–Zn–Cu Solder Alloy

The present investigation is based on the results of a directionally solidified （DS） Sn-9 wt%Zn-2 wt%Cu alloy, including primary/secondary/tertiary dendrite arm spacings of the Sn-rich matrix, the morphologies of the eutectic mixture and the corresponding interphase spacing, the nature and proportion of the Cu-Zn intermetallic compound （IMC）. The main purpose is to establish interrelations of these microstructure features with experimental solidification thermal parameters, such as cooling rates and growth rates （v）, macrosegregation and hardness. Such interrelations are interesting for both industry and academy since they represent a tool permitting the preprogramming of final properties based on the design of the microstructure. In the case of Sn-Zn-Cu alloys, hardly anything is known about the combined effects of the length scale of the microstructure and fraction and distribution of the primary IMC on hardness. The alloy microstructure is composed of a β-Sn dendritic region, surrounded by a eutectic mixture of α-Zn and β-Sn phases and the γ-Cu5Zn8 IMC. The eutectic interphase spacing varies in the range 1.2-3.6 μm, with the α-Zn phase having a globular morphology for ν 〉 0.5 mm/s and a needle-like morphology for ν 〈 0.3 mm/s. A modified Hall-Petch-type experimental expression relating hardness to the interphase spacing is proposed.

We report here the activated carbon and cobalt hexacyanoferrate composite,which is applied as the electrode materials in symmetric supercapacitors containing a 1.0 M Na_(2)SO_(4) aqueous *** novel material combines high specific surface area and electrochemical stability of activated carbon with the redox properties of cobalt hexacyanoferrate,resulting in maximum specific capacitance of 329 F g^(-1) with large voltage working window of 2.0 *** studies indicated that cobalt hexacyanoferrate introduces important pseudocapacitive properties accounting for the overall charge-storage process,especially when I<0.5 A g^(-1).At lower gravimetric currents(e.g.,0.05 A g^(-1))and up to 1.0 V,the presence of cobalt hexacyanoferrate improves the specific energy for more than 300%.In addition,to better understanding the energy storage process we also provided a careful investigation of the electrode materials under dynamic polarization conditions using the in situ Raman spectroscopy and synchrotron light Xray diffraction *** complementary findings were obtained in these *** believe that this novel electrode material is promising for applications regarding the energy-storage process in pseudocapacitors with long lifespan properties.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of different water deficiency and rehydration levels on the concentrations of osmoregulators in two plant species（Hymenaea courbaril and H. Stigonocarpa） in the Amazon. We adopted a 2×5×5 factorial system,referring to 2 species（H. courbaril and H. stigonocarpa）and 5 stages of hydration and rehydration. The five hydration and rehydration stages were established in:（1）Control treatment E0;（2） Plants with 13 days of stress after incubation—E13;（3） Plants with 26 days of stress E26;（4）The plants that were established after 26 days after incubation and rehydrated for two days（RD2）;（5） rehydrated for two days（RD4）. The plants that were established after 26 days after incubation and rehydrated for four days. The experiment totaled fifty young plants with five *** measurements were performed at the beginning of the experiment（E0） at 13（E13） and 26（E26） days after the water stress, in which the plants were rehydrated,repeating the analyses after two（RD2） and four（RD4）days. Both species increased the sucrose concentration by18%, with a decrease of 52% in starch content. The RD4 time presented the highest mean starch concentration(0.19 mmol g-1 of the residue for H. courbaril and0.27 mmol g;of residue for H. stigonocarpa). Increased proline concentrations were recorded for controls until RD2 for both species. For glycine betaine, the highest increases in treatments E26 and RD2 were observed for the H. courbaril species. Our rehydration period was not sufficient for total recovery of pre-stress concentrations of all studied solutes.

Impacted Lower Third Molar Fused with a Supernumerary Tooth—Diagnosis and Treatment Planning Using Cone-Beam Computed Tomography

This paper reported a case of fusion between an impacted third molar and a supernumerary tooth, in which a surgical intervention was carried out, with the objective of removing the dental elements. The panoramic radiography was complemented by the Donovan＇s radiographic technique; but because of the proximity of the dental element to the mandibular ramus, it was not possible to have a final fusion diagnosis. Hence, the Cone-Beam Computed Tomography--which provides precise three- dimensional information--was used to determinate the fusion diagnosis and also to help in the surgical planning. In this case report we observed that the periapical, occlusal and panoramic were not able to show details which could only be examined through the cone-beam computed tomo- graphy.

Sharp differentiation on the performance of plant functional groups across natural edges

Aims Gallery forests within grasslands have natural edges with open envi-ronments and offer a unique opportunity to examine how species performances vary across environmental ***,we asked if demographic rates of tree functional groups varied along the edge,if we could explain differences in plant strategies and performance through functional traits and which traits increase growth and sur-vival in natural *** We examine mortality and recruitment within the first 10 m of nat-ural edges of eight gallery forests using demographic data from five annual *** defined a priori plant strategies using tree functional groups:light demanding,pioneer and shade *** Findings The shade-tolerant group had the lowest mortality rates and basal area(BA)loss,while pioneer and light-demanding species had similar behavior for these *** survival and growth of functional groups were affected differently by the distance from the *** pioneer group survived more near the edge,while light-demanding and shade-tolerant groups toward the forest *** groups had higher growth in the *** differences could be explained by functional traits since most species have an acquisition strategy:higher specific leaf area and growth,lower leaf dry matter con-tent,lighter stem density,deeper crowns and less slender *** traits enhanced ***,mortality selected both strategies,but in distinct edge’s *** study showed that the high diversity found in natural edges can be explained by a niche and functional perspective,where differences in functional traits lead to differential performance along the environmental gradient.

Background This study aimed to estimate vaccine effectiveness(VE)against omicron variant infection and severe corona virus disease 2019(COVID-19)in children aged 5–11 years hospitalized with acute respiratory *** A test-negative,case–control analysis was conducted from February 2022 to June *** enrolled 6950 eligible children,including 1102 cases and 5848 *** was calculated after immunization with one and two doses of BNT162b2 or *** outcomes were hospitalization with acute respiratory symptoms and detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection and severe *** adjusted odds ratio for the association of prior vaccination and outcomes was used to estimate *** For fully vaccinated children,the overall estimated VE against hospitalization with SARS-CoV-2 infection was 42%[95%confidence interval(CI)26 to 54].VE peaked at 29–42 days(67%,95%CI 40%to 82%)and then declined to 19%(95%CI,−20%to 45%)at 57–120 days after the second *** BNT162b2 vaccine had a similar VE against hospitalization with SARS-CoV-2 infection(45%,95%CI,20 to 61)compared to the CoronaVac vaccine(40%,95%CI,17%to 56%).Among cases,56(5%)children died;53(94.6%)were not fully *** cases,the two-dose schedule effectiveness against ICU admission,need for invasive ventilation,severe illness,and death were 10%(95%CI,−54%–45%),22%(95%CI−70%–68%),12%(95%CI,−62%–52%),and 16%(95%CI,−77%–75%),*** For hospitalized children aged 5–11 years during the omicron-predominant period in Brazil,two doses of both vaccines had moderate effectiveness against hospitalization with acute respiratory symptoms and SARS-CoV-2 infection and offered limited protection against endpoints of COVID-19 severity.
