Old climatically-buffered infertile landscapes(OCBILs):more than harsh habitats,Atlantic Forest inselbergs can be drivers of evolutionary diversity

Granite-gneiss rock outcrop inselbergs are ancient stable ecosystems with old,climaticallybuffered infertile landscapes(OCBILs).Although inselbergs provide key ecosystem services,little is done for their conservation and,so far,a lot of their unknown evolutionary history has already been lost by human *** a fine-scale approach,here we tested if habitat and environmental filtering(the inselberg’s harshness)affect the evolutionary diversity of an Atlantic Forest inselberg in *** recorded all trees with a diameter at breast height≥5cm in 20 plots in four habitat types(total sampled area of 0.8 hectares),from highest to lowest:island,hillside,foothill,and semideciduous forest(matrix).We also collected soil samples for chemical,textural and physical soil *** fitted linear models to test the effects of soil and habitat on plotlevel metrics of phylogenetic diversity and structure,lineage diversity,phylogeneticβ-diversity,and evolutionary *** found that the upper inselberg habitats contain a distinct set of ancient,closely related,harsh-tolerant lineages,as well as a subset of lineages that persist under harsh conditions with a certain degree of water *** inferior inselberg habitats harbor higher lineage diversity than expected by *** strongly predicted evolutionary *** concluded that soil depth,slope,nutrients and texture(environmental filtering)and habitat types and topography(habitat filtering)shape the evolutionary history contained in fine-scale inselberg habitats,which should encourage the conservation of these ancient ecosystems.

H∞position transfer and regulation for floating offshore wind turbines

This paper proposes H∞controller design for platform position transfer and regulation of floating offshore wind *** platform movability of floating wind turbines can be utilized in mitigating the wake effect in the wind farm,thereby maximizing the wind farm's total power capture and *** controller is designed so that aerodynamic force is adjusted to meet the three objectives simultaneously,that is,1)to generate the desired electrical power level,2)to achieve the desired platform position,and 3)to suppress the platform *** acquire sufficient aerodynamic force to move the heavy platform,the pitch-to-stall blade pitching strategy is taken instead of the commonly-used pitch-to-feather *** desired power level is attained by the standard constant-power strategy for the generator torque,while Hstate-feedback control of blade pitch and nacelle yaw angles is adopted for the position regulation and platform oscillation *** constants for the H∞controller design are adjusted to take the trade-off between the position regulation accuracy and the platform motion *** demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed controler,a virtual 5-MW semi-submersible wind turbine is *** results show that the designed H∞controller successfully accomplishes the platform position transfer and regulation as well as the platform oscillation reduction against wind and wave disturbances,and that it outperforms a previously-proposed linear quadratic controller with an integrator.

During the global coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,people worldwide have experienced an unprecedented rise in psychological distress and *** addition to this challenging situation,the prevalence of diabetes mellitus(DM),a hidden epidemic,has been steadily increasing in recent ***-middle-income countries have faced significant barriers in providing accessible prenatal care and promoting a healthy diet for pregnant women,and the pandemic has made these challenges even more difficult to *** women are at a higher risk of developing complications such as hypertension,preeclampsia,and gestational diabetes,all of which can have adverse implications for both maternal and fetal *** occurrence of gestational diabetes has been on the rise,and it is possible that the pandemic has worsened its *** data is limited,studies conducted in Italy and Canada suggest that the pandemic has had an impact on gestational diabetes rates,especially among women in their first trimester of *** significant disruptions to daily routines caused by the pandemic,such as limited exercise options,indicate a possible link between COVID-19 and an increased likelihood of experiencing higher levels of weight gain during ***,individuals in the United States with singleton pregnancies are at a significantly higher risk of excessive gestational weight gain,making this association particularly important to *** comprehensive data is currently lacking,it is important for clinical researchers to explore the possibility of establishing correlations between the stress experienced during the pandemic,its consequences such as gestational gain weight,and the increasing incidence of gestational *** knowledge would contribute to better preventive measures and support for pregnant individuals during challenging times.

Background Improving balance control in older adults is one of the main objectives of fall prevention programs,and tennis could represent a promising way to train balance *** To verify whether older tennis players have similar reactive response characteristics to balance perturbations to those of healthy young *** Fifteen young people(23.00±1.96 years)and twelve older people(69.08±3.82 years),remained in an orthostatic position,with their arms at their sides,on a force platform during ten mediolateral *** surface electromyo-graphy signal of the gluteus maximus,tibialis anterior,gastrocnemius lateralis,and vastus lateralis muscles was acquired on the dominant *** The velocity and amplitude parameters of the center of pressure displacement were similar between the groups,as well as the amplitude of the electromyography signal of the tibialis anterior,vastus lateralis,and gastrocnemius lateralis *** was a statistical difference between the groups in the gluteus maximus muscle in the first *** Older tennis players present similar center of pressure velocity performance and amplitude of center of pres-sure displacement behavior to young *** tennis players have an increased range of muscle activation,generating automatic postural responses adapted to deal with situations of balance perturbations.

Development of a nanostructured filter for pyrolysis wax purification:Effects of particulate filter aids

Wax obtained from the pyrolysis of polyethylene waste can contain inorganic contaminants and must be purified before *** evaluated different filter aids(perlite,sand,and rice husk ash)for the filtration of a crude wax and a pyrolysis wax through a filter medium that was coated with nylon 6 nanofibers to improve filtration *** first examined the performance of the filter aids in improving crude wax filtration,with the filtration time,temperature,and pressure held constant at 1 h,170℃,and 2.5 bar,*** wax was then produced by pyrolysis of high-density polyethylene(HDPE)waste in the temperature range 425-475℃.The best filter aid was perlite,which had a filtrate production rate of 5.47×10^(-5)m^(3)/*** highest oily wax yield(87.8%)was achieved at a pyrolysis temperature of 425℃.The assembly comprising the filter medium coated with nylon 6 nanofibers plus perlite as a filter aid was most suitable for removing impurities from the oily wax generated by the HDPE pyrolysis as it achieved a purification efficiency of 99.9%.

Sperm quality in mice acutely treated with parathion

Aim: To investigate the toxic effect of a single injection of the organophosphorous agropesticide, parathion, on sper-matogenesis in immature male mice. Methods: Seven-day old mice received a single injection of parathion intraperi-toneally at a dose of 1/3 LD_50. The epididymal sperm count, sperm morphology and chromatin thermal stability wereanalyzed 28 and 50 days after injection. Results: Sperm counts were decreased and teratozoospermia and thermal de-naturation of DNA increased after parathion injection. Sperm parameters were changed to a greater extent in younger an-imals, denoting a higher lability of spermatogenic process at its beginning. The damages could recover a long time afterparathion administration. Conclusion: Organophosphorous agropesticides are testicular toxicants, eliciting reversiblecytotoxic and cytogenetic alterations in germ cells.

Bohlman Technique Using Rialto Sacroiliac Fusion Implant for Treating L5-S1 High Grade Spondylolisthesis. Report of Two Cases

The article begins with a brief biography of H. Bohlman, a great orthopedist and person with strong impact on modern Medicine and Spine surgery. Using original Bohlamn technique with small modifications (instead of fibula graft used Rialto implant and performed posterior fixation L4-S2) we treated surgically two young females with L5 listhesis with success. Methods: Both patients were followed up during 1 year and 9 months and 1 year and 7 months. Results: Two young females of 18 years old with isthmic listhesis L5 were submitted to fixation L4-S2 and transsacral, transdical fusion with Rialto implant by Bohlman technique with partial reduction of listhesis. Both had resolution of the pain and have maintained a good clinical outcome at 1 year and 9 months and another one at 1 year and 7 months follow up. .

Cyberattacks are difficult to prevent because the targeted companies and organizations are often relying on new and fundamentally insecure cloudbased technologies,such as the Internet of *** increasing industry adoption and migration of traditional computing services to the cloud,one of the main challenges in cybersecurity is to provide mechanisms to secure these *** work proposes a Data Security Framework for cloud computing services(CCS)that evaluates and improves CCS data security from a software engineering perspective by evaluating the levels of security within the cloud computing paradigm using engineering methods and techniques applied to *** framework is developed by means of a methodology based on a heuristic theory that incorporates knowledge generated by existing works as well as the experience of their *** paper presents the design details of the framework,which consists of three stages:identification of data security requirements,management of data security risks and evaluation of data security performance in CCS.
