Aim: To investigate the toxic effect of a single injection of the organophosphorous agropesticide, parathion, on sper-matogenesis in immature male mice. Methods: Seven-day old mice received a single injection of parathion intraperi-toneally at a dose of 1/3 LD_50. The epididymal sperm count, sperm morphology and chromatin thermal stability wereanalyzed 28 and 50 days after injection. Results: Sperm counts were decreased and teratozoospermia and thermal de-naturation of DNA increased after parathion injection. Sperm parameters were changed to a greater extent in younger an-imals, denoting a higher lability of spermatogenic process at its beginning. The damages could recover a long time afterparathion administration. Conclusion: Organophosphorous agropesticides are testicular toxicants, eliciting reversiblecytotoxic and cytogenetic alterations in germ cells.

Development of a nanostructured filter for pyrolysis wax purification:Effects of particulate filter aids

Wax obtained from the pyrolysis of polyethylene waste can contain inorganic contaminants and must be purified before *** evaluated different filter aids(perlite,sand,and rice husk ash)for the filtration of a crude wax and a pyrolysis wax through a filter medium that was coated with nylon 6 nanofibers to improve filtration *** first examined the performance of the filter aids in improving crude wax filtration,with the filtration time,temperature,and pressure held constant at 1 h,170℃,and 2.5 bar,*** wax was then produced by pyrolysis of high-density polyethylene(HDPE)waste in the temperature range 425-475℃.The best filter aid was perlite,which had a filtrate production rate of 5.47×10^(-5)m^(3)/*** highest oily wax yield(87.8%)was achieved at a pyrolysis temperature of 425℃.The assembly comprising the filter medium coated with nylon 6 nanofibers plus perlite as a filter aid was most suitable for removing impurities from the oily wax generated by the HDPE pyrolysis as it achieved a purification efficiency of 99.9%.

The age range of the major intra-plate volcanic event that affected the northern Indian margin in the Early Cretaceous is here defined precisely by detrital zircon geochronology. U-Pb ages of Early Cretaceous detrital zircons found in the Cretaceous to the Paleocene sandstones cluster mainly between 142 Ma and 123 Ma in the northern Tethys Himalayan unit, and between 140 Ma and 116 Ma in the southern Tethys Himalayan unit. The youngest and oldest detrital zircons within this group indicate that volcanism in the source areas started in the latest Jurassic and ended by the early Albian. Stratigraphic data indicate that volcaniclastic sedimentation began significantly earlier in southern Tibet （Tithonian） than in Nepal （Valangin- ian）, and considerably later in Spiti and Zanskar （Aptian/AIbian） to the west. This apparent westward migration of magmatism was explained with progressive westward propagation of extensional/transtensional tectonic activity and development of fractures cutting deeply across the Indian continental margin crust. However, detrital zircon geochronology provides no indication of heterochroneity in magmatic activity in the source areas from east to west, and thus lends little support to such a scenario. Westward migration of volcaniclastic sedimentation may thus reflect instead the westward progradation of major drainage systems supplying volcanic detritus sourced from the same volcanic centers in the east. Development of multiple radial drainage away from the domal surface uplift associated with magmatic upwelling, as observed for most large igneous provinces around the world, may also explain why U-Pb ages of detrital zircons tend to cluster around 133-132 Ma （the age of the Cornel igneous province） in Tethys Himalayan units, but around 118-117 Ma （the age of the Rajmahal igneous province） in Lesser Himalayan units.

MicroRNAs(miRNAs)are small RNA molecules with important roles in post-transcriptional regulation of gene *** recent years,the predicted number of miRNAs has skyrocketed,largely as a consequence of high-throughput sequencing technologies becoming *** dramatic increase in miRNA candidates poses multiple challenges in terms of data deposition,curation,and *** multiple databases containing miRNA annotations and targets have been developed,ensuring data quality by validating miRNA-target interactions requires the efforts of the research *** order to generate databases containing biologically active miRNAs,it is imperative to overcome a multitude of hurdles,including restricted miRNA expression patterns,distinct miRNA biogenesis machineries,and divergent miRNA-mRNA interaction *** the present review,we discuss recent advances and limitations in miRNA prediction,identification,and ***,we focus on the most enriched neuronal miRNA,miR-124,and its gene regulatory network in human neurons,which has been revealed using a combined computational and experimental approach.

The transient response of a system of independent electrodes buried in a semi-infinite conducting medium is studied. Using a simple and versatile numerical scheme written by the authors and based on the Electric Field Integral Equation (EFIE), the effect caused by harmonic signals ranging on frequency from Hz to hundred of MHz, and also by lightning type driving signal striking at a remote point far from the conductors, is extensively studied. The value of the scalar potential appearing on the electrodes as a function of the frequency of the applied signal is one of the variables investigated. Other features such as the input impedance at the injection point of the signal and the Ground Potential Rise (GPR) over the electrode system are also discussed.

This paper introduces a novel application of bionic engineering： a bionic musical instrument using Physarum polycephalum. Physarum polycephalum is a huge single cell with thousands of nuclei, which behaves like a giant amoeba. During its foraging behavior this plasmodium produces electrical activity corresponding to different physiological states. We developed a method to render sounds from such electrical activity and thus represent spatio-temporal behavior of slime mould in a form apprehended auditorily. The electrical activity is captured by various electrodes placed on a Petri dish containing the cultured slime mold. Sounds are synthesized by a bank of parallel sinusoidal oscillators connected to the electrodes. Each electrode is responsible for one partial of the spectrum of the resulting sound. The behavior of the slime mould can be controlled to produce different timbres.

Cells depend on the homeostatic maintenance of pHwithin specific cellular compartments to ensure optimalconditions for metabolic and enzymatic processes as wellas protein structure and function. In the animal secre-tory pathway, cells maintain distinct luminal pHs withinvarious compartments （Paroutis et al., 2004）. Among themany molecular players that contribute to pH and ionhomeostasis in plants, Na＋（K＋）/H＋ exchangers （also knownas NHX-type cation/H＋ antiporters） appear to be particu-larly important for the regulation of a wide variety ofphysiological processes, including cell expansion, cellvolume regulation, osmotic adjustment, pH regulation,membrane trafficking, protein processing, and cellularstress responses （Pardo et al., 2006; Rodriguez-Rosaleset al., 2009; Bassil et al., 2012）. In plants, NHX antiportersappeared early in evolution and are ubiquitously encodedmembers of the CPA1 cation/H＋ antiporters subgroupthat belongs to the large family of monovalent cation/H＋ transporters CPA （Brett et al., 2005）. NHX antiport-ers are found, thus far, in all sequenced plant genomes（Bassil et al., 2012; Chanroj et al., 2012）. In Arabidopsis,the NHX family consists of eight isoforms, six of whichare intracellular （AtNHXl-AtNHX6）, located either to thevacuole （AtNHXl to AtNHX4） or endosomes （AtNHX5 andAtNHX6） and an additional two more divergent members（AtNHX7/SOSl and AtNHX8） at the plasma membrane（Bassil et al., 2012）. Orthologous sequences in each of thethree classes （plasma membrane, vacuolar, or endosomal）appear in all sequenced genomes, suggesting that distinctfunctional NHX classes appeared early in evolution andmay have conserved roles that are compartment-specific（Bassil et al., 2012）. Emerging new evidence highlightsthe importance of particular intracellular NHX antiport-ers in the regulation of vesicular and vacuolar pH andK＋ homeostasis. Co,Ni,and Zn iso-reticular coordination polymers of 2,5-dihydroxyterphthalic acid(H_(2)dot)can be rapidly obtained under room temperature and aqueous conditions using either sodium or ammonium hydroxide as the bases to deprotonate the *** use of metal bromides and tetrabutylammonium hydroxide(TBAOH)as the base allows the green synthesis of ionic metal-organic frameworks(MOFs),characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared(FTIR),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),thermo gravimetric analysis(TGA),H-nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR),elemental analysis,and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and employed in the pressure,solvent,and additive-free CO_(2)fixation to epoxides by its cycloaddition to epichlorohydrin,exhibiting a cooperative behavior between the MOF and the ionic liquid formed within the framework,achieving TONs of the confined tetrabutylammonium bromide(TBABr)up to 700.
