Objective:To evaluate the larvicidal efficacy of eight volatile com.onents of essential oils against 3rd instar larvae of Anopheles gam.iae ***:Larvicidal effects of each com.ound were evaluated in both laboratory and sem.-field *** solution was prepared and serial dilutions were m.de in six concentrations for each com.ound.A total of 20 larvae were exposed to larvicides for each replicate and m.nitored at intervals of 12,24,48 and 72 *** m.nitoring was done on basis of dead and live larvae in all ***:All assayed com.ounds were larvicides and presented varying degrees of larval toxicity,with LC50 values ranging from.1.28 to 1 938.92 m./L depending on the treatm.nt tim.(12,24,48 or 72 h).(-)-Perillyl alcohol presented the strongest larvicidal activity towards Anopheles gam.iae larvae,with LC_(50) values of 73.60,18.36,1.72 and1.28 m./L after 12,24,48 and 72 h of exposure,*** next strongest were(-)-isopulegol(LC_(50)= 135.10,49.39,34.39 and 20.22 m./L) and(-)-carvone epoxide(LC_(50)= 168.86,124.74,80.84 and 23.46 m./L).After 12,24 and 48 h of treatm.nt,hydroxydihydrocarvone was the least toxic com.ound,with LC_(50) values of 1 938.92,1 172.18 and 401.03 m./L,***:The data obtained in this study suggest that all evaluated m.noterpenes,especially(-)-perillyl alcohol,have rem.rkable larvicidal effects and m.y be considered as potential sources for the developm.nt of suitable natural larvicides for m.squito m.nagem.nt *** sm.ll-scale field trials should be conducted.

Land degradation causes great changes in the soil biological *** process of degradation m.y decrease soil m.crobial biom.ss and consequently decrease soil m.crobial *** study was conducted out during 2009 and 2010 at the four sites of land under native vegetation(NV),m.derately degraded land(LDL),highly degraded land(HDL) and land under restoration for four years(RL) to evaluate changes in soil m.crobial biom.ss and activity in lands with different degradation levels in com.arison with both land under native vegetation and land under restoration in Northeast *** sam.les were collected at 0-10 cm.*** organic carbon(SOC),soil m.crobial biom.ss C(m.C) and N(m.N),soil respiration(SR),and hydrolysis of fluorescein diacetate(FDA) and dehydrogenase(DHA) activities were *** two years of evaluation,soil m.C,m.N,FDA and DHA had higher values in the NV,followed by the *** decreases of soil m.crobial biom.ss and enzym. activities in the degraded lands were approxim.tely 8-10 tim.s as large as those found in the ***,after land restoration,the m.C and m.N increased approxim.tely 5-fold and 2-fold,respectively,com.ared with the *** results showed that land degradation produced a strong decrease in soil m.crobial ***,land restoration m.y prom.te short-and long-term.increases in soil m.crobial biom.ss.

Efficiency of soil-applied ^(67)Zn-enriched fertiliser across three consecutive crops

A very sm.ll am.unt of applied zinc(Zn) is taken up by crops, resulting in low recovery by plants. Adding elem.ntal sulphur to zinc oxide(ZnO) fertiliser could im.rove Zn solubilisation and exert a higher residual effect on crops than soluble Zn sources. We produced an isotopically labelled Zn-elem.ntal sulphur fertiliser and evaluated its perform.nce in com.arison to traditional Zn sources during sequential crop cultivation. Three ^(67)Zn-labelled fertilisers,ZnO, zinc sulphate(ZnSO_(4)), and ZnO co-granulated with elem.ntal sulphur(ZnOS^(0)), were soil applied, and their contributions to the uptake of Zn by three consecutive crops, wheat, ryegrass, and corn, were assessed in a 294-d pot experim.nt. The contributions of Zn fertilisers followed the order: ZnSO_(4) > ZnO= ZnOS^(0). The relative contributions of Zn fertilisers were lower in the first crop than in the subsequent crops. The overall recovery of applied Zn by the three crops was higher for ZnSO_(4) than for ZnO and ZnOS^(0), reaching 1.56%, 0.45%, and 0.33% of the applied Zn, respectively. Zinc recovery by plants was very low, regardless of the source of Zn. Adding elem.ntal sulphur to ZnO did not increase its effectiveness up to 294 d after application. Fertiliser contribution was higher for the subsequent crops than for the initial crop, indicating the im.ortance of assessing the residual effects of Zn fertilisers.

In this work,the im.act of the doping process on the photolum.nescence em.ssion of CaWO_(4) as a function of the concentration of Eu^(3+) cation(0.01 m.l%,0.02 m.l%,0.04 m.l%,0.06 m.l%,0.08 m.l%,and 0.10 m.l%) is discussed in ***_(1-x)WO~4:xEu^(3+) sam.les were successfully synthesized by a sim.le coprecipitation m.thod followed by m.crowave *** blue shift in the absorption edge confirm. the quantum.confinem.nt effect and the band gap energy covers the range from.3.91 to 4.18 eV,as the am.unt of Eu^(3+) cations *** experim.ntal results are sustained by first-principles calculations,at the density functional theory level,to decipher the geom.try and electronic properties,thereby enabling a m.re accurate and direct com.arison between theory and experim.nt for the Ca_(1-x)WO_(4):xEu^(3+) structure.

Background： During sperm.m.turation, there is a reorganization of fatty acids from.plasm.tic m.m.rane of the sperm.tozoa, which allows higher m.m.rane integrity and acquisition of sperm.m.tility. However, the fatty acid profile during sperm.m.turation rem.ins unclear in dogs. Thus, the aim.of this study was to identify the fatty acids from.the epididym.l sperm.tozoa and plasm. during the sperm.m.turation, and observed changes in the m.tility and plasm.tic m.m.rane param.ters. Twenty one adult dogs were used, subsequently to bilateral orchiectom. and epididym.l storage, sperm.sam.les were collected from.the different segm.nts of the epididym.s. Sam.les were evaluated for conventional m.croscopy, com.uter-assisted m.tility analysis, sperm.plasm. m.m.rane perm.ability and the fatty acid analysis（lipids were extracted, transm.thylated and analyzed by chrom.tography）.Results： Caput and corpus sperm.showed lower values for the m.tility variables evaluated and plasm.tic m.m.rane integrity, indicating different levels of the fatty acids organization. Saturated, m.nounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids were in higher concentrations in the sperm.tozoa from.epididym.s cauda. Highlighting the presence of caprylic, stearic and docosahexaenoic ***： These findings dem.nstrate the influence of the fatty acid profile during sperm.m.turation, assigning physical and chem.cal changes in sperm.cells, essential for fertilization.

The current study is developed based on one of the types of subgrade rupture risk suggested by Selig and Waters （1994）. It aim. to evaluate subgrade stability railroad, which consists of the slope stability analysis of a railway yard em.ankm.nt subjected to a wagon load type gondola parked on this track. This proposed analysis was taken into consideration because there are Brazilian railroads in high deterioration level. In som. of these lines the tracks are subm.tted to increasing am.unt of load every year. The adopted m.del slope stability to the studied railroad em.ankm.nts considers the rupture on circular line. It was applied the Geoslope-Slope/W software, version 6, to the evaluation of the platform.slope system. Several situations are adopted to reach the m.nim.m.safety slope, perm.tting to analyze the platform.stability to keep railroad traffic under adequate safety level.
