This documentary research aimed to describe the results of an epidemiological survey that sought to determine the prevalence of Infections Related to Health care (IRHc) in newborns admitted to a Neonatal Intensive care Unit (NIcU) at the city of Rio de janeiro. For methodology, the existing data in the original research database were used as the primary source. The method used was the case study in a quantitative approach. The data have been statistically arranged by odds ratio, which measured the possibility of IRHc development at the 102 newborns, by exposition at the risk factors. Results: IRHc prevalence with pneumonias, sepsis, navel’s infection and ocular infections predominance rises. Prematures are 4.10 more susceptible. Twelve hours after amniotic rupture there are 1.77 more chances of infections. Babies with more than 10 days of hospitalization are 4.70 more susceptible than those with 10 days. The registers examined were incipient at the IRHc’s characterization, beginning and duration, which make the IRHc’s diagnostic/notification difficult.

A Fragmentation Mechanism of Homemade Explosive TMDD Using DART-MS and Isotopic Labeling

A fragmentation mechanism and characterization for the first time using Direct Analysis in Real TimeTime of Flight-Mass Spectrometry（DART-TOF-MS）of the tetramethylene diperoxide dicarbamide（TMDD）compound were *** MS-spectrum may support other research about devices and detection in real *** mass spectrum of TMDD obtained using DART ionization in the positive-ion detection mode exhibited a strong peak at m/z 254 representing an ammonium adduct（[TMMD·NH4]+）.There was another peak at m/z 237,which represented the protonated molecule（[TMDD·H]+）of *** two peaks corroborated the identity of the *** DART-MS spectra of the TMDD-isotopomer successfully corroborated the respective molecular *** principal fragmentation residues also showed coherence according to the number of isotopically labeled atoms on the TMDD *** contrast with other organic peroxides analyzed by this technique,TMDD exhibited substantial *** theoretical modeling results showed that the fragmentation mechanism of the TMDD ion adduct is strongly dependent of the TMDD ring flexibility and the hydrogen bonding formed between the nitrogen and oxygen atoms and the atmospheric proton.

Sharp differentiation on the performance of plant functional groups across natural edges

Aims Gallery forests within grasslands have natural edges with open envi-ronments and offer a unique opportunity to examine how species performances vary across environmental ***,we asked if demographic rates of tree functional groups varied along the edge,if we could explain differences in plant strategies and performance through functional traits and which traits increase growth and sur-vival in natural *** We examine mortality and recruitment within the first 10 m of nat-ural edges of eight gallery forests using demographic data from five annual *** defined a priori plant strategies using tree functional groups:light demanding,pioneer and shade *** Findings The shade-tolerant group had the lowest mortality rates and basal area(BA)loss,while pioneer and light-demanding species had similar behavior for these *** survival and growth of functional groups were affected differently by the distance from the *** pioneer group survived more near the edge,while light-demanding and shade-tolerant groups toward the forest *** groups had higher growth in the *** differences could be explained by functional traits since most species have an acquisition strategy:higher specific leaf area and growth,lower leaf dry matter con-tent,lighter stem density,deeper crowns and less slender *** traits enhanced ***,mortality selected both strategies,but in distinct edge’s *** study showed that the high diversity found in natural edges can be explained by a niche and functional perspective,where differences in functional traits lead to differential performance along the environmental gradient.

Ecophysiological acclimatization to cyclic water stress in Eucalyptus

Drought is considered the main environmental factor limiting productivity in eucalyptus plantations in Brazil. However, recent studies have reported that exposure to water deficit conditions enables plants to respond to subsequent stresses. Thus, this study investigates the ecophysiological acclimatization of eucalyptus clones submitted to recurrent water deficit cycles. Eucalyptus seedlings were submitted to three recurrent water deficit cycles and anatomical, morphological and physiological changes were analyzed. The results were:(1) Eucalyptus seedlings responded to water deficits by directing carbohydrates to root and stem growth;(2) Size and number of stomata were reduced;(3) Stomatal conductance decreased which allowed the plants to reduce water losses through transpiration,increasing instantaneous water use efficiency;(4) The relationship between gas exchanges and available water contents allowed the seedlings to uptake the retained soil water athigher tensions;and,(5) Physiological recovery from subsequent water deficits became faster. As a result of these changes, the eucalyptus seedlings recovered from the same degree of water stress more rapidly.

Left Ventricle Failure and Blood Flow Estimation for centrifugal Blood Pumps

This paper shows the blood flow control （Fwc） performance to adjust rotational speed of an IcBP （implantable centrifugal blood pump） in order to provide an adequate flow to left ventricle in different patient conditions. IcBP is a totally implantable LVAD （left ventricular assist device） with ceramic bearings developed for long term circulatory assistance. Fwc uses PI （proportional-integral） control to adjust rotational speed in order to provide blood flow. Fwc does not use sensor for feedback, as there is an estimation system to provide blood flow measurement. control strategy has being studied in a HcS （hybrid cardiovascular simulator） as a tool that allows the physical connection of IcBP during evaluation. In addition, HcS allows changes of some cardiovascular parameters in order to simulate specific heart disease： ejection fraction （10-25%） and heart rate （50-110 bpm）. Fwc was able to adjust blood flow with steady error less than 2%. Results demonstrated that Fwc is adequate to LVAD control irL different left ventricle failure conditions.

Biliary complications after pediatric liver transplantation: Risk factors, diagnosis and management

The expanded indications of partial grafts in pediatric liver transplantation have reduced waiting list mortality. However, a higher morbidity is observed, including an increased rate of biliary complications(Bcs). Factors such as the type of graft, the preservation methods applied, the donor characteristics, the type of biliary reconstruction, and the number of bile ducts in the liver graft influences the occurrence of these complications. Bile leaks and strictures comprise the majority of posttransplant Bcs. Biliary strictures require a high grade of suspicion, and because most children have a bileoenteric anastomosis, its diagnosis and management rely on percutaneous hepatic cholangiography and percutaneous biliary interventions(PBI). The success rates with PBI range from 70% to 90%. Surgery is reserved for patients who have failed PBI. Bcs in children after liver transplantation have a prolonged treatment and are associated with a longer length of stay and higher hospital costs. However, with early diagnosis and aggressive treatment, patient and graft survival are not significantly compromised.

Acute traumatic extratemporal facial nerve injury: A 5-year review

Background: Traumatic facial nerve injury is the second leading cause of facial paralysis, presenting significant challenges such as difficulties with eating, speaking, impaired vision, and loss of facial expression. Understanding these injuries is critical for plastic surgeons to optimize recovery and functional outcomes. This study examined our experience with acute traumatic extratemporal facial nerve injuries, focusing on their characteristics, the frequency of affected nerve branches, and identification using Seckel's facial danger zones as anatomical landmarks. We also explored the implications of surgical management based on the current literature and our ***: We reviewed 50 patients with acute traumatic extratemporal facial nerve injuries treated at Hospital General Dr. Manuel Gea Gonz alez in Mexico city from january 2019 to january 2024. The collected data included demographics(age, sex, severity, and time to medical attention), injury mechanism, affected nerve branches using Seckel's zones, and treatment ***: The majority of the patients were male(82%), with an average age of 29 ± 16 years. Sharp trauma from assault was the most common cause(66%). The buccal and frontal branches were most frequently affected, with Seckel zones IV and II involved in 46.86% and 33.33% of cases, respectively. Primary neurorrhaphy was performed in 96% of the ***: The effective management of traumatic facial nerve injuries relies on understanding the characteristics of the injury and using anatomical landmarks for prompt localization. Primary neurorrhaphy is the preferred surgical approach, with nerve grafting being an alternative. Ideally, early intervention within 72 h is crucial for optimal nerve recovery.
