Rectal perforation by inadvertent ingestion of a blister pack: A case report and review of literature

The accidental ingestion of a foreign body(FB) is a relatively common condition. In the present study, we report a peculiar case of rectal perforation, the first to our knowledge, caused by the inadvertent ingestion of a blister pill pack. The aim of this report is to illustrate the difficulties of the case from a diagnostic and therapeutic viewpoint as well as its unusual presentation. A 75-year-old woman, mentally impaired, arrived at our emergency department in critical condition. The computed tomography scan revealed a substantial abdominopelvic peritoneal effusion and free perigastric air. The patient was therefore submitted to an urgent exploratory laparotomy; a 2-cm long, full-thickness lesion was identified in the anterior distal part of the intraperitoneal rectum. Hence, we performed a Hartmann's procedure. Because of her critical condition, the patient was eventually transferred to the Intensive Care Unit, where she died after 10 d, showing no surgical complication. The ingestion of FBs is usually treated with observation or endoscopic removal. Less than 1% of FBs are likely to cause an intestinal perforation. The intestinal perforation resulting from the unintentional ingestion of an FB is often a difficult challenge when it comes to treatment, due to its late diagnosis and the patients' deteriorated clinical condition.

Peritoneal carcinomatosis is,after liver metastases,the second most frequent cause of death in colorectal cancer patients and at the present time,is commonly inserted and treated as a stage Ⅳ *** there is no published data that outlines the impact of new therapeutic regimens on survival of patients with peritoneal surface diffusion,the story of carcinomatosis can be rewritten in light of a new aggressive approach based on the combination of cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal *** if these treatment perhaps allow to obtain better results than standard therapies,we suggest,that a large prospective randomised control trial is needed to compare long-term and progression-free survival under the best available systemic therapy with or without cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy.

每座校园都是一座小城市。福田中学的设计从反思传统校园与城市割裂的关系开始,试图塑造一个没有围墙,积极与城市共享的校园。架空的操场靠西布置,紧邻中心公园,其下部容纳了大量多样的文体设施,通过学生、社会双门厅的方式与周边社区分时共享。多层地面是垂直校园体系在高强度开发的情况下保证校园空间品质的重要策略。它试图构建一个立体的社交空间格局,在高密度的校园环境中最大限度的引入自然,强化建筑与景观,室内与室外的融合。高效利用下沉庭院、裙房顶面、建筑物屋面,最大化室外和半室外活动空间,通过一系列空中连廊、架空层、屋面花园构成丰富多元又尺度宜人的校园空间体验。

Optical studies of Y3（Al,Ga）5O12:Ce3+,Cr3+,Nd3+ nano-phosphors obtained by the Pechini method

The Y3(AI,Ga)5O12:Ce^3+,Cr^3+,Nd^3+(YAGG)nano-phosphors with homogeneous particle-size distribution,low aggregation and average crystalline size of about 65 nm were obtained using a modified Pechini *** slight aggregation of the crystallites occurs after post-annealing at 1100℃.The intense Ce^3+bands in the excitation spectra of the Ce^3+,Cr^3+,Nd^3+co-doped materials monitoring the Cr^3+emission at 690 nm indicate energy transfer from Ce^3+to Cr^3+.Weak Nd^3+lines are observed,as *** addition,the emission of Nd^3+at 1060 nm with excitation of Ce^3+and Cr^3+confirms the Ce^3+/Cr^3+to Nd^3+energy *** short average luminescence decay times for the Ce^3+emission indicate the Ce^3+/Cr^3+to Nd^3+energy ***,the Y3(AI,Ga)5O12:Ce^3+,Cr^3+,Nd^3+nano-phosphors exhibit persistent luminescence originating from the 4f^3→4f^3 transitions of Nd^3+which matches well to the first biological window to be used in bioimaging applications.

Influence of Temperature on Calcium Hydroxyapatite Nanopowders

The aim of this work is to investigate the effects of thermal treatment, in the range of temperature between 80oC - 900oC, on crystallinity, morphology and particles size of calcium hydroxylapatite nanopowders (HAp). A complete study was carried out applying 31P Magic Angle Spinning NMR, X-ray diffraction, nitrogen porosimetry and Transmission Electron Microscopy techniques. HAp specimens were prepared by chemical precipitation in an aqueous solution of calcium nitrate and ammonium hydrogen phosphate. The thermal treatment performed, showed the formation of crystals whose appearance has three main morphologies and different particles size. HAp treated up to 500oC showed a set of needle-like shape crystals with a low surface area value. These crystals turned into rod-like crystals with temperature increase, along with an increase in crystallite size. At 900oC was detected a hexagonal hydroxylapatite phase. Furthermore, Dynamic Light Scattering explored a stable HAp dispersion. The isopropyl alcohol dispersion resulted stable for at least two weeks, useful to create layers of determined morphology nanoparticles.

Properties and Structural Studies of Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotubes-Phosphate Ester Hybrids

Long chain phosphate esters bearing at least one or two aryl groups have been synthesized and used for the preparation of stable multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) hybrids. The non-covalent interaction ester/MWCNT has been investigated by several techniques (SEM, UV-vis, 31P-NMR, RAMAN). The used phosphate ester derivatives demonstrated the ability to produce an excellent dispersion of MWCNT in CHCl3. The obtained dispersions showed a great stability from one to at least three weeks in the range of concentration considered. Thermal analysis showed an increase in the decomposition temperature for the hybrids with respect to pristine MWCNT.
