Nanohybrid membrane in algal-membrane photoreactor: Microalgae cultivation and wastewater polishing

Microalgae cultivation has gained tremendous attention in recent years due to its great potential in green biofuel production and wastewater treatment application. Membrane technology is a great solution in separating the microalgae biomass while producing high quality of permeate for recycling. The main objective of this study was to investigate the filtration performance of Ag/GO-PVDF(silver/graphene oxide-polyvinylidene fluoride) membrane in an algalmembrane photoreactor(A-MPR) by benchmarking with a commercial PVDF(com-PVDF) membrane. In this study, Chlorella vulgaris microalgae was cultivated in synthetic wastewater in an A-MPR for ammoniacal-nitrogen and phosphorus recovery and the wastewater was further filtered using Ag/GO-PVDF and com-PVDF membranes to obtain high quality water. Spectrophotometer was used to analyze the chemical oxidation demand(COD), ammoniacal nitrogen(NH3-N) and phosphate(PO43-). The concentration of proteins and carbohydrates was measured using Bradford method and phenol-sulfuric acid method, respectively. The COD of the synthetic wastewater was reduced from(180.5 ± 5.6) ppm to(82 ± 2.6) ppm due to nutrient uptake by microalgae. Then, the Ag/GO-PVDF membrane was used to further purify the microalgae cultivated wastewater, resulting in a low COD permeate of(31 ± 4.6) ppm. The high removal rate of proteins(100%) and carbohydrates(86.6%) as the major foulant in microalgae filtration, with low membrane fouling propensity of Ag/GO-PVDF membrane is advantageous for the sustainable development of the microalgae production. Hence, the integrated A-MPR system is highly recommended as a promising approach for microalgae cultivation and wastewater polishing treatment.

Preparation and characterization of new sealing glasses based on Li_(2)O-NiO-P_(2)O_(5) system

A series of glass are synthesized via a melt quenching technique based on the Li_(2)O-Ni O-P_(2)O_(5) *** concentration of nickel oxide varies from 5%to 15%in molar *** pattern verifies the amorphous nature of prepared glass samples with 5%,and 10%nickel oxide in molar *** Li_(3)P and Ni_(2)P_(4)O_(12)phases are precipitated with a high nickel content up to 15%in molar *** nickel is substituted for lithium,a systematic increase in glass transition temperature(T_(g))and glass softening temperatures(T_(s))is *** is greatly related to the increased structure,coherence in the glass *** investigation showed that Ni_(2+) spectra are present in both octahedral and tetrahedral *** properties such as glass density((2.38±0.1)-(2.46±0.1)g/cm^(3)),and molar volume((42.28±0.1)-(39.15±0.1)cm^(3)/mol)are *** NiO/Li_(2)O replacements led to a decrease in the dissolution rate of the resultant amorphous materials from 1.53×10^(-5)to 3.20×10^(-6)g/(cm^(2)·min).Thermal expansion coefficients CTE of the glasses are diverse from 157×10^(-7) to 96×10^(-7)℃^(-1) over the temperature range of 25-250℃.The prepared glasses are expected to be useful as a low-temperature sealing material.

This study draws a historical picture of conceptual linkages of innovation systems(IS)and global value chains(GVC).We used a co-citation technique to map the evolution of these two fields since *** highlighted the connecting nodes over the past three *** first decade witnessed a connection between national innovation systems(NIS)and GVC,mediated by regional studies related to industrial clusters and district-based *** tradeoff between tacit sticky local and codified transferable global knowledge and innovation and learning's importance in upgrading in GVC generated two new routes in the second *** the last decade,although these routes are retained,their mediating nodes have changed with the literature on technology and sustainable transition from IS and the path dependency role in the evolution of districts in global production *** trends indicate that evolutionary views on economic geography and catch-up may open new opportunities to link the two,and some lessons highlight the need for more structured interactions in the future.

The nanocrystalline Fe-Ni-Cr coatings were electrodeposited by using the pulse current *** SEM results showed that the coatings had a mixed morphology of small nodules and fine cauliflower structures at low current ***,the Cr content was increased at expense of Fe and Ni contents at high current *** patterns confirmed that the pulse current density had a positive effect on the grain *** results of vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM)measurements demonstrated that by increasing the current density,the saturation magnetization was decreased and the coercivity was increased due to the enhancement of Cr content and the reduction of the grain *** friction coefficient and wear rate values were decreased by increasing the pulse current ***,both the adhesive and abrasive wear mechanisms were observed on the worn *** abrasive grooves and the amount of wear debris were decreased by increasing the pulse current density.

Graphene oxide is a very high capacity adsorbent due to its functional groups and π-π interactions with other compounds. Adsorption capacity of graphene oxide, however, can be further enhanced by having synergistic effects through the use of mixed-matrix composite. In this study, silica-decorated graphene oxide(SGO) was used as a high-efficiency adsorbent to remove Congo red(CR) and Cadmium(Ⅱ) from aqueous solutions. The effects of solution initial concentration(20 to 120 mg/l), solution pH(pH 2 to 7), adsorption duration(0 to 140 min) and temperature(298 to 323 K) were measured in order to optimize the adsorption conditions using the SGO adsorbent. Morphological analysis indicated that the silica nanoparticles could be dispersed uniformly on the graphene oxide surfaces. The maximum capacities of adsorbent for effective removal of Cd(Ⅱ) and CR were 43.45 and 333.33 mg/g based on Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms, respectively. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms displayed the highest values of Q max for CR and Cd(Ⅱ) adsorption in this study, which indicated monolayer adsorption of CR and multilayer adsorption of Cd(II) onto the SGO, respectively. Thermodynamic study showed that the enthalpy( H) and Gibbs free energy( G) values of the adsorption process for both pollutants were negative, suggesting that the process was spontaneous and exothermic in nature. This study showed active sites of SGO( π-π, hydroxyl, carboxyl, ketone, silane-based functional groups) contributed to an enormous enhancement in simultaneous removal of CR and Cd(Ⅱ) from an aqueous solu-tion, Therefore, SGO can be considered as a promising adsorbent for future water pollution control and removal of hazardous materials from aqueous solutions.

Unveiling spontaneous emission enhancement mechanisms in metal–insulator–metal nanocavities

Recent advances in the development of a nanocavity based on a metal–insulator–metal(MIM) structure have provided a great opportunity to enhance the performance of photonic devices. However, the underlying physics behind the emission enhancement obtained from such cavities is under debate. Here, in this work, we designed and investigated MIM nanocavities to reveal the mechanisms for the observed 260-fold photoluminescence enhancement from LDS 798 fluorescent dye. This study provides a pathway to engineer the emission properties of an emitter not only through the enhancement of the Purcell factor but mainly through enhancement of the excitation rate. Our numerical simulations support the experimentally acquired results. We believe an MIM cavity and dye-based hybrid system design based on the revealed enhancement process and structural simplicity, will provide more efficient, lithography free, and low-cost advanced nanoscale devices.

A Unified Theory (I) for Neighborhood Systems and Basic Concepts on Fuzzifying Topological Spaces

This paper considers fuzzifying topologies, a special case of I-fuzzy topologies (bifuzzy topologies), introduced by Ying. It investigates topological notions defined by means of -open sets when these are planted into the frame-work of Ying’s fuzzifying topological spaces (by Lukasiewicz logic in [0, 1]). In this paper we introduce some sorts of operations, called general fuzzifying operations from P(X) to , where (X, τ) is a fuzzifying topological space. By making use of them we contract neighborhood structures, derived sets, closure operations and interior operations.

Application of numerical modeling and genetic programming to estimate rock mass modulus of deformation

Estimation of the rock mass modulus of deformation(Em)is one of the most important design parameters in designing many structures in and on *** parameter can be obtained by in situ tests,empirical relations between deformation modulus and rock mass classifcation,and estimating from laboratory tests *** this paper,a back analysis calculation is performed to present an equation for estimation of the rock mass modulus of deformation using genetic programming(GP)and numerical modeling.A database of 40,960 datasets,including vertical stress(rz),horizontal to vertical stresses ratio(k),Poisson’s ratio(m),radius of circular tunnel(r)and wall displacement of circular tunnel on the horizontal diameter(d)for input parameters and modulus of deformation for output,was *** selected parameters are easy to determine and rock mass modulus of deformation can be obtained from instrumentation data of any size circular *** resulting RMSE of 0.86 and correlation coeffcient of97%of the proposed equation demonstrated the capability of the computer program(CP)generated by GP.
