Fishes are excellent markers of the extent of pollution from heavy metals in aquatic environments given that they are found at various levels of the food *** study aimed to investigate the bioaccumulation of heavy metals(Zn,Pb,Cd,As,and Hg)as well as the activity of delta-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase(δ-ALA-D)in the livers of cat fishes(Clarias gariepinus)collected from three rivers(Donga,Ibi and Gindin-Dorowa)in Taraba State,*** concentrations of heavy metals in the liver tissues were determined using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer in accordance with the method of AOAC(2019),while theδ-ALA-D activity was assayed using the method of Sassa(1982).Results revealed that only Zn and As were present in the liver samples from the three *** was found only in the liver from Gindin-Dorowa at the concentration of 0.0012mg/kg which is not significant(P<0.05)when compared with other locations,while Hg and Cd were absent in all the liver *** liver sample from Gindin-Dorowa had the highest concentration of Zn(4.2500 mg/kg),followed by Ibi(3.2067 mg/kg),and Donga having the least(2.5500 mg/kg),which were all substantially(P<0.05)different from one ***,there was no significant(P<0.05)difference in the As composition of liver from Donga(0.0013 mg/kg),Ibi(0.0012 mg/kg)and Gindin-Dorowa(0.0010 mg/kg).The result ofδ-ALA-D activity showed that the highest enzymatic activity was found in the liver sample from Donga which has the least Zn and no Pb content,followed by Ibi *** validates the report that heavy metals impairδ-ALA-D ***,the concentrations of all metals in fish livers from all regions do not exceed the acceptable limits set by international law,making them safe for human consumption and possibly not having a negative impact on public *** there is little or no industrial activity in the studied locations,these levels may be consequent to low anthropogenic *** current situation should be sa

Conceptual art is one of the twentieth century art movements that has gained popular attention in the contemporary artworld. It has received much scholarly prominence in the Western world, and perceived as an emergent art of European origin. What has been given little or no scholarly attention is the African essence of root of conceptual art movement. This article addresses the historical epochs of conceptual art in Africa and delves into the critical question of whether or not conceptual art is an emergent art in Africa. With the help of the images of African artworks, this article attempts to fmd visual answers by examining the art-historical account of the art through visual analysis in simple narrative format in telling the African side of the story. It concludes that the adoration and idolization of Marcel Duchamp as the father of conceptual art is contestable since the art was many centuries old in Africa before the twentieth century artists began to practice it in the West. Duchamp＇s attempt at dematerialization of art, and showing distaste to the traditional aesthetics of Western art at the time through conceptual exploration had been in practice in African art and, therefore, not an invention.

Hydrogeological and hydrochemical assessments were carried out in Assin and Breman districts of Ghana. A multi-criteria approach was used in the assessment of the basin granitoids including;electrical resistivity survey, pumping test and water quality analysis. A total of twenty-five (25) representative boreholes were drilled, developed and pumped;obtaining data for aquifer hydraulic parameters estimation. Correlation analysis was used to determine relationships that exist between aquifer hydraulic parameters. Schoeller, Piper, Stiff plot and Gibbs diagrams were used to determine the hydrogeochemical facies, water types and the mechanism that control groundwater quality. The statistical analysis determined that aquifer hydraulic parameters discharge rate (Q), hydraulic conductivity (K) and Transmissivity (T) showed a strong positive correlation with specific capacity (Q/Sw) with R value 0.8462, 0.8738 and 0.8332 respectively. The K and T were respectively between 0.02 - 0.90 m/day and 0.36 - 13.47 m2/day with mean of 0.24 m/day and 3.03 m2/day respectively. The K values indicate a hydrogeological condition of aquiclude with relatively low permeability and medium water bearing capacity. The aquifer T magnitude is very low to low, groundwater potential is adequate for local water supply with limited and private consumption. All physicochemical parameters were within the permissible limits of Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) and World Health Organisation (WHO) except for apparent colour, pH, Fe and Mn. Distribution of major ions in groundwater samples was calculated and the general trend among cations and anions was found to be Ca2+ > Na+ > Mg2+ and Cl? > HCO3? > SO42? respectively. The study area shows five main water types namely;Ca-HCO3, Na-Mg-HCO3-SO4, Ca-SO4, Na-Cl and Mg-Na-Cl. Weathering of rock-forming minerals as the mechanism controlling the groundwater chemistry. Heavy metals have harmful effects on human health,and exposure to these metals has been increased by industrial and anthropogenic activities and modern *** metals content of the liver tissues was determine d using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer method,while lipid peroxidation was carried *** metals analyzed include;lead(Pb),cadmium(Cd),zinc(Zn),Arsenic(As),and Mercury(Hg).The findings revealed that the heavy metal Zinc(Zn)has high concentrations in the muscles of the fish species,the concentration of this heavy metal Zinc is high in River Gindin Dorowa th a n in River Ibi and River Donga shows less concentration of this heavy metal though it’s above WHO permissible *** revealed that only Zn and Cd were present in the muscle from the three *** was found only in the liver from Gindin-Dorowa at the concentration of 0.017 mg/kg,which is not significant(P<0.05)when compared with other locations,while Hg and As were absent in all the muscle *** highest concentration of Zn was found in the muscle sample from Gindin-Dorowa(7.450 mg/kg)followed by Ibi(6.16 mg/kg)and the least being Donga(4.365 mg/kg)which are significantly(P<0.05)different from one ***,there was no significant(P<0.05)difference among the Cd composition of muscle from Gindin-Dorowa(0.025 mg/kg),Donga(0.024 mg/kg)and Ibi(0.015 mg/kg),*** TBA was found in the hepatic tissue sample from Gidin-Dorowa,which has the highest Zn,Cd and no Pb content,followed by Ibi and then the Donga *** suggests that there is a positive relationship between heavy metals and the effect of TBA on the hepatic tissues,justifying the fact that heavy metals affect the hepatic tissues of fish,while on the cerebral *** conclusion,it revealed that there is a negative relation between heavy metals and the effect of TBA on the cerebral tissues to protect or save aquatic habitat s of fish quality and aquatic life.

Since its discovery in 1891, the pneumococcus has been one of the most extensively studied microbes, and was involved in several historical findings such as the discovery of genetic material that was later shown to be DNA. The pneumococcus is part of the normal bacterial flora of the nasopharynx, but can on occasions progress to sterile sites of the body and cause invasive diseases. There are about one million new invasive pneumococcal infections every year, majority of which occur in the developing world where children <5 years are most affected. The burden of pneumococcal disease is further heightened by the increasing prevalence of multidrug resistance of the organism. The pneumococcus remains a pathogen of immense public health significance and understanding its biology, particularly the pathogenesis and antibiotic resistance is crucial to controlling pneumococcal disease.

Evaluating the presence of fresh water snails in a location is germane in establishing a snail-borne disease control *** purpose of the study was to see how physicochemical parameters influenced the population distribution of four fresh water snails(Lymnaea natalensis,Bulinus globosus,Biomphalaria pfeiffer,and Melanoides spp.)in the Amassoma community and Niger Delta University between March,2021 and May *** were gathered by plucking and scooping them by *** was identified using standard pictorial *** of the water of the snail habitat were measured using standard in-situ apparatus across eight sites Physico chemical measured were temperature,pH,conductivity,BOD,turbidity,salinity,and alkalinity.A total of 258 snails were gathered from the eight(8)different *** all sites,Lymnaea natalensis was more *** globosus,Biomphalaria pfeiffer,and Melanoides *** among the other snails *** had negative correlation with pH,conductivity,BOD,and alkalinity and a positive correlation with salinity and *** had a positive relationship with pH,salinity,and conductivity and a negative correlation with temperature,turbidity,BOD,and *** had a positive correlation with temperature,pH,salinity,turbidity,and alkalinity Melanoides had positive correlations with Temperature,pH,salinity,BOD,and alkalinity and a negative correlation with turbidity and *** was correlation between snails and *** presence of these snails suggests that the Amassoma village and Niger Delta University campuses are potential hotspots for a variety of snail-borne diseases.

Comparative Evaluation of Thermogravimetric and Refractive Index Techniques in Determining Biodiesel Yield

Biodiesel is a clean and renewable resource that consists of mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acid, which could be obtained from the transesterification reaction of vegetable oils and animal fats with alcohols and catalysts. Biodiesel yield has typically been determined using expensive and laborious techniques. The attempt of this study was to examine the potential of quantifying the biodiesel conversion in real time using refractive index in transesterification process of canola oil with methanol and KOH. Biodiesel yields at five different mixing intensities and reaction times were measured using a refractometer. The measured results were then compared with analytical data obtained from thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) technique over a temperature range of 25℃ - 600℃. Experimental results indicated that the FAME conversions at different mixing intensity and reaction time measured from refractometer correlated well to the relative weight losses from TGA method with R2 = 0.93 (p ≤ 0.05);however, the refractometer may over-estimate the biodiesel yield when the reaction rate was too low. Overall, the refractometer technique is cheaper and easier to manage and could provide a reliable prediction of biodiesel yield in real time.
