Background The Cerrado is the most biodiverse savanna and maintains other biomes. Aware of its significance, this paper evaluated the Brazilian Cerrado's climatic, environmental, and socioeconomic aspects using remote.s.nsing data and spatial statistics(correlation analysis and principal components analysis—PCA). Following the measures of sample adequacy(MsA) and Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin(KMO) tests, seventeen variables were *** The MsA revealed that the dataset had a good quality(0.76), and nine variables were selected: elevation,evapotranspiration, active fires, Human Development Index(HDI), land use and land cover(LULC; shrubland and cropland/rainfed), rainfall(spring and autumn), and livestock. The correlation matrix indicated a positive(negative)association between HDI and autumn rainfall(HDI and active fires) with a value of 0.77(-0.55). The PCA results determined which three principal components(PC) were adequate for extracting spatial patterns, accounting for 68.02% of the total variance with respective values of 38.59%, 16.89%, and 12.5%. Due to economic development and agribusiness, Cerrado's northern(central, western, and southern) areas had negative(positive) score HDI values, as shown in PC1. Climatic(rainfall—spring and fall) and environmental(cropland/rainfed and shrubland) aspects dominated the PC2, with negative scores in northern and western portions due to the transition zone between Amazon and Cerrado biomes caused by rainfall variability. On the other hand, environmental aspects(LULC-shrubland and elevation)influenced the PC3; areas with high altitudes(> 500 m) received a higher *** Agricultural expansion substantially affected LULC, leading to deforestation-caused suppression of native vegetation.

Long-Term Trends in near-surface Wind speed over the southern Hemisphere: A Preliminary Analysis

Many studies that discuss observed trends in wind speed focus primarily on regions of the northern Hemisphere, so there is little research directed to the southern Hemisphere. This paper pre- sents a preliminary investigation of possible statistically significant trends in wind speed over the southern Hemisphere, with a detailing on the south American continent, between 1961 and 2008. Thus, data from the 20th Century Reanalysis V2 were examined with statistical tests of Mann- Kendall and sen’s Bend in order to establish the significance and the magnitude of detected trends. The previous results indicate statistically significant trends of increase in average wind speedover the equatorial region of the planet, as well as in the eastern sector of the south Pacific and south Atlantic Oceans. In south America, the most significant trends of decrease in wind speed were noted in some areas of the southern sector of the continent, even as in the adjacent Atlantic Ocean to Argentina. Further studies should be performed to physically support the occurrence of these trends in wind speed. In addition, other observed and reanalysis data sets should be explored to update and corroborate these primary analyzes.

Latin America is characterized by ethnic, geographical, cultural, and economic diversity; therefore, training in gastroenterology in the region must be considered in this context. The continent’s medical education is characterized by a lack of standards and the volume of research continues to be relatively small. There is a multiplicity of events in general gastroenterology and in sub-disciplines, both at regional and local levels, which ensure that many colleagues have access to information. Medical education programs must be based on a clinical vision and be considered in close contact with the patients. The programs should be properly supervised, appropriately defined, and evaluated on a regular basis. The disparity between the patients’ needs, the scarce resources available, and the pressures exerted by the health systems on doctors are frequent cited by those complaining of poor professionalism. Teaching development can play a critical role in ensuring the quality of teaching and learning in universities. Continuing professional development programs activities must be planned on the basis of the doctors’ needs, with clearly defined objectives and using proper learning methodologies designed for adults. They must be evaluated and accredited by a competent body, so that they may become the basis of a professional regulatory system. The specialty has made progress in the last decades, offering doctors various possibilities for professional development. The world gastroenterology organization has contributed to the speciality through three distinctive, but closely inter-related, programs: Training Centers, Train-the-Trainers, and Global Guidelines, in which Latin America is deeply involved.

The growth of the software game development industry is enormous and is gaining importance day by day. This growth imposes severe pressure and a number of issues and challenges on the game development community. Game development is a complex process, and one important game development choice is to consider the developer＇s perspective to produce good-quality software games by improving the game development process. The objective of this study is to provide a better understanding of the developer＇s dimension as a factor in software game success. It focuses mainly on an empirical investigation of the effect of key developer＇s factors on the software game development process and eventually on the quality of the resulting game. A quantitative survey was developed and conducted to identify key developer＇s factors for an enhanced game development process. For this study, the developed survey was used to test the research model and hypotheses. The results provide evidence that game development organizations must deal with multiple key factors to remain competitive and to handle high pressure in the software game industry. The main contribution of this paper is to investigate empirically the influence of key developer＇s factors on the game development process.

Controls of fracturing on porosity in pre-salt carbonate reservoirs

This work aims to improve the understanding of how fracture zones affect carbonate reservoir properties based on observations of a pre-salt well located in the.s.ntos Basin,*** identification of fracture zones allowed for the observation of a relationship between the occurrence of rock fractures and the silicification,as the latter plays an important role in determining porosity(higher silica content may increase brittleness of the rocks therefore incre.s.ng the likelihood of creating fractures zones and fractures may be filled up reducing the total porosity).To support the proposed observation,an integrated study was conducted using borehole imaging,spectroscopy logs,and sidewall core *** porosities were defined using nuclear magnetic resonance log analysis,alongside sidewall core samples,and thin *** integration of rock samples and well data with seismic analysis was performed to analyze the presence of a regional fault system that could explain high fracture densities as well as observed silica content *** results show how different types of cement filling up the formation pores affect fracture densities and total ***,it was possible to infer that the amount of silica content observed in well logs and thin sections relates to hydrothermal fluids reaching out the reservoir through regional fault systems detected in the seismic ***,this paper supports the comprehension of how diagenetic processes can significantly affect the properties of presalt reservoirs.

Crohn's disease environmental factors in the developing world: A case-control study in a statewide catchment area in Brazil

AIM To identify environmental risk factors associated with the development of Crohn's disease(CD) in order to reassess the hygiene *** A hospital-based, case-control study was carried out with CD patients(n = 145) and controls(n = 163)representing a socioeconomically diverse statewide catchment area in Brazil. Controls were recruited from caregivers of patients seen in different outpatient clinics at the same hospital. A multi-item survey with 94 questions regarding family history of CD, perinatal and childhood circumstances, living conditions, tobacco use and familial socioeconomic status was carried out by interviewers. ResULTs On the univariate analysis, predictive variables for CD included being male, under age of 40, a high education level, urban dweller, smaller family size, exposure to enteric pathogens and user of treated water(P n the multivariate analysis, variables significantly associated with CD were male gender(OR = 2.09), under age 40(OR = 3.10), white(OR = 2.32), from a small family in childhood(OR = 2.34) and adulthood(OR = 3.02), absence of viral infections in childhood(OR = 2.23), exposure to enteric pathogens(OR = 2.41), having had an appendectomy(OR = 2.47) and prior or current smoker(OR = 2.83/1.12). COnCLUsIOn Most variables supporting the "hygiene hypothesis" are associated with the development of CD but are not independent predictors of the diagnosis.
