This study investigated the dispersal pattern of suspended sediment in the areas near the Stenhouse and Ajax glaciers, Visca Anchorage, Martel Inlet, King George Island, Antarctica. This study was conducted using visible band processing of Quickbird high-resolution spatial images obtained in October 2006. The methodology was also based on the collection and interpretation of data obtained from water samples collected in Admiralty Bay in December 2004. The digital processing of satellite images was performed using a classification method based on the reflectance characteristics of water. The classified images improved visual identification of the dispersion pattern of suspended sediments in the study area. These data were related to the interpretation of analyses conducted on suspended particulate matter (SPM) in the water. The sediment dispersal pattern observed may be associated with glacial erosion processes, their input of meltwater from the front of the glaciers into the study area, detritus flow processes and glaciomarine circulation in the region.

Zinc is the micronutrient that presents the greatest response in corn grain production. However, the mode of application and the dose used are decisive factors with respect to fertilizer efficiency in the crop. Thus, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the residual effect of zinc application methods and rates on corn nutrition and productivity. The experiment was conducted in the experimental area of the Teaching, Research and Production Farm of the FCAV/UNeSP. Soil in the area is classified as dystrophic Dark-Red Latosol (dRL). The experimental setup consisted of a randomized complete block design with four replications. Treatments included three localized Zn doses applied to the soil (planting row);three Zn doses incorporated into the soil at depth of 0 - 20 cm;foliar application, seed application and treatment without addition of Zn. Two evaluations of growth during cultivation were performed. Grain productivity of the crop and the zinc content in soil, leaves and seeds were evaluated. Foliar spraying with Zn simultaneously promoted increased leaf Zn content and basal diameter of the plant. The Zn contents in grains and in the soil, as well as grain yield, were not affected by the Zn application methods or the applied doses. The residual effect of incorporated Zn doses was observed only in the basal diameter and number of leaves at 60 days after emergence.

During the prodromal stage of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), neurodegenerative changes can be identified by measuring volumetric loss in AD-prone brain regions on MRI. Cognitive assessments that are sensitive enough to measure the early brain-behavior manifestations of AD and that correlate with biomarkers of neurodegeneration are needed to identify and monitor individuals at risk for dementia. Weak sensitivity to early cognitive change has been a major limitation of traditional cognitive assessments. In this study, we focused on expanding our previous work by determining whether a digitized cognitive stress test, the Loewenstein-Acevedo Scales for Semantic Interference and Learning, Brief Computerized Version (LASSI-BC) could differentiate between Cognitively Unimpaired (CU) and amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment (aMCI) groups. A second focus was to correlate LASSI-BC performance to volumetric reductions in AD-prone brain regions. Data was gathered from 111 older adults who were comprehensively evaluated and administered the LASSI-BC. eighty-seven of these participants (51 CU;36 aMCI) underwent MR imaging. The volumes of 12 AD-prone brain regions were related to LASSI-BC and other memory tests correcting for False Discovery Rate (FDR). Results indicated that, even after adjusting for initial learning ability, the failure to recover from proactive semantic interference (frPSI) on the LASSI-BC differentiated between CU and aMCI groups. An optimal combination of frPSI and initial learning strength on the LASSI-BC yielded an area under the ROC curve of 0.876 (76.1% sensitivity, 82.7% specificity). Further, frPSI on the LASSI-BC was associated with volumetric reductions in the hippocampus, amygdala, inferior temporal lobes, precuneus, and posterior cingulate.

叶面积指数（leaf area index,LAI）在山地森林具有高度的空间异质性。基于大样地尺度的山地森林叶面积空间异质性的研究较少，而且不涉及LAI对地形的响应研究。基于LAI的空间异质性和地形因子的相关性，确定取样尺度，可为提升区域尺度上LAI的空间遥感精度提供依据。本研究依托祁连山大野口流域10.2 ha(340 m×300 m)的青海云杉林动态监测样地，使用cid CI-110植物冠层数字图像分析仪对样地内255个20 m×20 m样方进行五点法LAI测定，分析LAI的空间异质性特征和空间分布格局及其与地形因子的相关性。研究结果表明：（1） LAI具有中等变异性，指数模型是变异函数的最佳理论模型，具有强烈的空间自相关，变程为16 m，南—北方向上是LAI分布的优势格局。（2） LAI的空间分布格局相对简单，具有一定的斑块性，LAI为0.56～1.43的斑块所占面积最大。（3） LAI与海拔和坡度均呈极显著负相关（P 0.05）。（4）青海云杉林的LAI空间异质性与尺度和方向有关，部分地形因子对LAI存在着显著影响。研究结果可为青海云杉林生态过程分析以及遥感技术反演LAI参数提供依据。

Objective: To assess the role of early prophylaxis with recombinant activated factor VII (rFVIIa) in young haemophiliacs with inhibitors and to determine whether it can reduce bleeding episodes and prevent joint damage. Patients and Methods: Ten severe haemophiliacs, less of three years old, with up to four joint bleeds and inhibitors to FVIII who started early prophylaxis with rFVIIa, were included. A number of haemorrhages/year/patient and haemarthroses/ year/patient were compared before the start of prophylaxis, which include both the time before (initial period) and after inhibitor diagnosis (inhibitor period), with those during prophylaxis (prophylaxis period). Results: The mean time of inhibitor diagnosis was 15.6 months (range: 2.3-34.1). The mean time between inhibitor diagnosis and the start of prophylaxis was 7.1 months (range: 0-23.2), shorter than the time of rFVIIa prophylaxis (mean: 10.3 months;range: 4.1-32.0). Bleeding episodes for the three time periods were 45, 36 and 17, respectively, or 0.29 and 0.51 haemorrhages/year/patient in the two periods prior to prophylaxis compared to 0.17 during prophylaxis. Total haemarthroses for the three-time periods were 7, 5 and 5, respectively. The haemarthroses/year/patient in the pre-prophylaxis period were 0.032 and 0.070, compared to0.049 inthe prophylaxis period. rFVIIa schedules were either 90 μg/kg three times weekly or 90 μg/kg daily. Conclusions: early prophylaxis with rFVIIa may be efficacious in young haemophiliacs with inhibitors, reducing joint bleeds. After the risky period of inhibitor presence, they are able to continue rFVIII prophylaxis with success assured to prevent arthropathy.

A series of 1,3-substituted 8-styrylxanthines (11a-d) was synthesized, under chemo- and regioselective conditions, in a good overall yield. The compounds showed affinity towards both A1 and A2A-adenosine receptors by radioligand binding by means of in vitro assays. The (e)-3-ethyl-1-propyl-8-styrylxanthine (11a) showed the greatest affinity towards the A2A receptor, whereas (e)-3-pentyl-1-propyl-8-styrylxanthine (11d) showed the greatest affinity for the A1 receptor. When the 8-styrylxanthines 11a (A15et) and 11c (A15Bu) were administrated in rats, which were previously injured with 6-hydroxydopamine at the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc), the turning behavior decreased 50%. Based on these results we propose to A15et as a potential compound to treat some symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.

The aim of the present study was to compare two protocols of Agar Gel Immunodiffusion (AGID) that can be used to diagnose equine Infectious Anemia (eIA). Different volumes of reagents and support for agar gel were used, as recommended by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA) and the World Organization for Animal Health (OIe). equidae sera samples (n = 1000) were tested using a national commercial kit and different volumes (i.e. 25 μL—MAPA and 50 μL—OIe) of reagents and standard sera. Antigen was used as recommended by MAPA. The results were assessed by two operators, 48 hours after beginning the test. At the end of the experiment, a Kappa index of 1 was obtained by the operators, for the interpretation of the results and for the different volumes of reagents used. Similar results of agreement (Kappa index = 1) were obtained when using slides or Petri dishes as support for the agar gel. In both cases, an almost perfect agreement was achieved, suggesting that the use of different supports does not affect the results. These findings indicate that both protocols (MAPA and OIe) can be used to diagnose eIA.

Prediction of Concentration of Animal Fat in Mixture with Vegetable Oil by Multivariate Calibration Associated with Spectrofluorimetry

Total spectrofluorimetry associated with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was used to discriminate samples of vegetable oil and animal fat. In addition, a multivariate calibration model was developed that combines spectroflurimetry with Partial Least Squares (PLS) for prediction of concentration of animal fat in mixture with vegetable oil. The multivariate calibration model had an R2 value of 0.98098, which indicates the accuracy of the model. This method has potential application in the control of quality of raw material for production of biodiesel. The control of the concentration of animal fat is important because animal fat is more susceptible to oxidation than vegetable oil. Furthermore, high concentrations of animal fats may increase electricity costs for biodiesel production due to the high melting points of saturated fats that solidify at room temperature and cause the fouling and clogging of pipes.

背景与目的此项探索性分析回顾评价了晚期非小细胞肺癌(non-small cell lung cancer,NSCLC)患者的结局,旨在确定基线时合并脑转移是否会影响一线应用帕博利珠单抗联合化疗(pembrolizumab plus chemotherapy,PC)比对单用化疗的疗效。患者和方法对KeYNOTe-021队列G(非鳞癌)、KeYNOTe-189(非鳞癌)和KeYNOTe-407(鳞癌)三项研究晚期NSCLC患者的数据进行汇总分析。患者接受含铂两药化疗和/或35个周期帕博利珠单抗治疗(每3周200 mg)。所有研究均纳入了经治或初治的稳定性脑转移患者(KeYNOTe-189与KeYNOTe-407研究纳入初治脑转移患者)。经治的脑转移患者已处于病情稳定的状态≥2周(KeYNOTe-021队列G患者≥4周),无新发或脑转移病灶扩大的证据且入组前至少3天以上未使用激素。初治的无症状脑转移患者需定期接受脑部影像学检查。结果共纳入1298例患者,其中171例有基线脑转移,1127例无脑转移。两组的中位随访时间(范围)在数据截止时分别为10.9(0.1-35.1)个月和11.0(0.1-34.9)个月。合并脑转移和无脑转移患者的总生存期[0.48(95%CI:0.32-0.70)和0.63(95%CI:0.53-0.75)]和无进展生存期[0.44(95%CI:0.31-0.62)和0.55(95%CI:0.48-0.63)]的风险比(PC/化疗)相似。合并脑转移的患者中,PC组和单用化疗组患者的中位总生存期分别为18.8个月和7.6个月,中位无进展生存期分别为6.9个月和4.1个月。无论是否合并脑转移,PC组患者的客观缓解率都高于单用化疗组,且缓解持续时间有显著延长。合并脑转移的患者中,PC组与单用化疗组的治疗相关不良事件发生率分别为88.2%和82.8%;而无脑转移的患者中,两组治疗相关不良事件的发生率分别为94.5%和90.6%。结论无论是否合并脑转移,与单用化疗相比,帕博利珠单抗联合以铂类为基础的组织学特异性化疗可改善所有PD-L1亚组的临床结局,其中包括PD-L1肿瘤比例评分<1%的患者,并且在晚期NSCLC患者中安全性良好。该方案是晚期NSCLC初治患者的标准方案,并可用于合并稳定性脑转移的患者。
