An out.reak of t.e sweet.ot.t. whit.fly, Bemisia t.baci （Gennadius）, biot.pe B occurred in t.e Imperial Valley, California in 1991. t.e insect. dest.oyed melon crops and seriously damaged ot.er veget.bles, ornament.ls and row crops. As a result.of t.e need for sampling t.chnology, we developed a whit.fly t.ap （named t.e CC t.ap） t.at.could be left.in t.e field for ext.nded t.me periods. We used t.e t.aps t. monit.r populat.ons ofB. t.baci adult. during year-round samplings from 1996 t. 2002 t. st.dy variat.ons in t.e weekly t.ap cat.hes of t.e insect. t.e great.st.number ofB. t.baci adult. was recorded in 1996, followed by a cont.nuing annual decrease in t.ap cat.hes each year t.rough 2002. t.e overall decline of B. t.baci is at.ribut.d in part.t. t.e adopt.on of an int.grat.d pest.management.（IPM） program init.at.d in 1992 and reduced melon hect.res from 1996 t. 2002. Ot.er fact.rs may also have cont.ibut.d t. t.e populat.on reduct.ons. Seasonally, B. t.baci t.ap cat.hes decreased during t.e lat. summer and fall concurrent.wit. decreasing minimum t.mpera- t.res t.at.are suggest.d t. be a significant.fact.r affect.ng seasonal act.vit. and reproduct.on.

We examined t.e pat.erns of male pink bollworm （PBW）, Pect.nophora gossypiella （Saunders）, mot. cat.hes in gossyplure-bait.d t.aps over a 15-year period from 1989 t. 2003 in t.e Imperial Valley, California, USA. Monit.ring was conduct.d during periods when different.pink bollworm areawide cont.ol st.at.gies were being used. Numbers of male pink bollworm mot.s caught.in gossyplure-bait.d t.aps progressively decreased each year from 1990 t. 1994 during short.season cot.on product.on. High numbers of male mot.s caught.in t.aps from 1995 t. 1997 may have been relat.d t. mot. migrat.ons from t.e large cot.on acreages grown in t.e Me.icali Valley bordering t.e Imperial Valley. t.ansge.ic Bollgard （Bt. cot.on was plant.d in 3% of t.e cot.on area in 1996 and t.ereaft.r in 80%- 94% of t.e cot.on area from 1997 t. 2003. Pink bollworm mot. t.ap cat.hes were significant.y lower from 1998 t. 2003 t.an cat.hes in 1995 t. 1997, except.for 1999. t.e t.apping result. suggest.d t.at.Bt.cot.on had significant.input.on reduct.on of pink bollworm populat.ons, confirming result. of ot.er invest.gat.rs and providing addit.onal document.t.on on t.e benefit. of t.e Bt.cot.on cult.re.
