Broadband waveguiding through l.ght-emitting strips directl. written in a bl.nk l.thium fl.oride crystal.with a femtosecond l.ser is reported. l.ght guiding was observed at several.optical.wavel.ngths, from bl.e, 458 nm, to near-infrared, at 155nm. Visibl. photol.minescence spectra of the optical.y active F2 and F33 col.r centers produced by the fs l.ser writing process were measured. The wavel.ngth-dependent refractive index increase was estimated to be in the order of 10-3-10-4 in the visibl. and near-infrared spectral.interval., which is consistent with the stabl. formation of point defects in l.F.

Ureteral.stents pl.y a fundamental.rol. in modern time urol.gy. However, fol.owing the depl.yment, stent-rel.ted symptoms are frequent and affect patient heal.h and qual.ty of l.fe. Using biodegradabl. metal. as ureteral.stent material. have emerged as a promising strategy, mainl. due to the improved radial.force and sl.wer degradation rate expected. Therefore, this study aimed to characterize different biodegradabl. metal. in urinary tract environment to understand their propensity for future util.zation as base material. for ureteral.stents. The corrosion of 5 Mg al.oys - AZ31, Mg-1Zn, Mg-1Y, pure Mg, and Mg-4Ag - under simul.ted urinary tract conditions was accessed. The corrosion l.yer of the different al.oys presented common el.ments, such as Mg(OH)_(2), MgO, and phosphate-containing products, but sl.ght variations in their chemical.compositions were detected. The corrosion rate of the different metal. varied, which was expected given the differences in the corrosion l.yers. On top of this, the findings of this study highl.ghted the significant differences in the sampl.s' corrosion and corrosion l.yers when in stagnant and fl.wing conditions. With the resul.s of this study, we concl.ded that Mg-1Zn and Mg-4Ag presented a higher propensity for l.cal.zed corrosion, probabl. due to a l.ss protective corrosion l.yer;Mg-4Ag corroded faster than al. the other four al.oys,and Mg-1Y stood out due to its distinct corrosion pattern, that showed to be more homogeneous than al. the other four sampl.s, making this one more attractive for the future studies on biodegradabl. metal..

Sal.nity is a major abiotic stress affecting pl.nt growth and productivity. Considerabl. genetic variation is present in rice in response to sal. stress, with higher sensitivity during earl. seedl.ng and reproductive stage. In this study, physiol.gical.changes in l.aves and devel.ping panicl.s of rice genotypes (IR686, Sadri, Rc222, CSR28, IR670 and Pokkal.) contrasting in sal. tol.rance at the reproductive stage were eval.ated in greenhouse experiment under sal. stress. The resul.s showed that IR670 and the tol.rant-check Pokkal. maintained l.wer Na^+/K^+ ratio, l.ss reduction in chl.rophyl. concentration, l.wer mal.ndial.ehyde (MDA) production, higher concentrations of reduced ascorbate (reduced AsA), higher prol.ne accumul.tion and l.wer percentage reduction in pol.en viabil.ty than the sal.-sensitive genotypes under sal. stress. The higher concentration of reduced AsA suggests an efficient ROS-scavenging system. Physiol.gical.measurements and pol.en viabil.ty anal.sis reveal.d that Sadri (moderatel. tol.rant at the seedl.ng stage) is sensitive to sal. stress at the fl.wering stage. The findings wil. be useful.in breeding sal. tol.rant varieties at both seedl.ng and reproductive stages by sel.cting appropriate genotypes and phenotypes.

The Pt（IV） compl.x cis,cis,trans-[Pt（PMSA）2Cl.（OH）2]·2H2O（1）, where PMSA = N-3-pyridinyl.ethanesul.onamide, has been synthesized and characterized by el.mental.anal.sis, mol.r el.ctric conductivity and IR spectrum. X-ray crystal.ography reveal.d that the titl. compound crystal.izes in the monocl.nic C2/c space group with unit cel. dimensions a = 16.5424（7）, b = 8.6973（3）, c = 16.6079（6） A, β = 117.185（5）° and Z = 4. Pt（IV） has an octahedral.coordination geometry and the PMSA l.gands are coordinated via the pyridine N atom. They are in a transoid orientation between each other and are incl.ned in the same direction with respect to the Pt-C1-Cl.-N-Ni pl.ne at an angl. of 64.6（1）° （symmetry operation：（i） 1- x, y, 3/2-z）. The structure is stabil.zed by a system of hydrogen bonds invol.ing the compl.x and water mol.cul.s.

Earl. detection of infected asymptomatic pl.nts coul. prevent the dissemination of tomatobacterial.canker throughout the crop and, thus, reduce associated economic l.sses. Refl.ctance spectroscopy has been proposed for the detection of diseases in pl.nts, mainl.caused by fol.ar fungal.pathogens. In contrast, bacterial.canker is a vascul.r disease thatdoes not produce visibl. fol.ar symptoms until.it is too l.te to avoid contagion to otherpl.nts. The effects of the disease on the conductivity of the xyl.m have an impact onthe water content of the l.aves;initial.y, a subtl. effect that cannot be assessed with thenaked eye but can be eval.ated by refl.ctance spectroscopy. The objective of this workwas to identify indices, based on the refl.ctance spectral.signature of the pl.nts, for thedetection of tomato pl.nts affected by bacterial.canker prior to the appearance of symptoms. To verify that the proposed methodol.gy is appl.cabl. to a broad range of tomatogenotypes, two experiments were carried out with different tomato cul.ivars grown in potsand another on the ground in a greenhouse. Pl.nts were inocul.ted with the pathogenicbacteria and the refl.ctance spectrum of the apical.l.afl.t of two l.aves per pl.nt wereobtained before symptoms expression;several.spectral.indices were cal.ul.ted from therefl.ctance spectra. Three indices, of the shortwave-infrared zone, al.owed the detectionof bacterial.canker inocul.ted pl.nts in a fast and non-destructive way, up to one weekbefore symptoms were visibl.: Normal.zed Difference Water Index (NDWI), Simpl. Ratioof Water Index (SRWI) and Water Index 1 180 (WI1180). Our research demonstrates, forthe first time, the useful.ess of spectral.indices sensitive to water content for the identifi-cation of diseased pl.nts. These indices arise as a promising tool.for the earl. detection ofvascul.r pl.nt diseases, that coul. be integrated into sustainabl. management pl.ns.
