Trade-offs between performance and tolerance of abiotic and biotic stress have been proposed to explain both the success of invasive species and frequently observed size differences between native and introduced *** thistle seeds collected from across the introduced North American and the native European range were grown in benign and stressful conditions(nutrient stress,shading,simulated herbivory,drought,and mowing),to evaluate whether native and introduced individuals differ in performance or stress *** additional experiment assessed the strength of maternal effects by comparing plants derived from field-collected seeds with those derived from clones grown in the *** populations tended to be larger in size,but no trade-off of stress tolerance with performance was detected;introduced populations had either superior performance or equivalent trait values and survivorship in the treatment common *** also detected evidence of parallel latitudinal clines of some traits in both the native and introduced ranges and associations with climate variables in some treatments,consistent with recent climate adaptation within the introduced *** results are consistent with rapid adaptation of introduced populations,but,contrary to predictions,the evolution of invasive traits did not come at the cost of reduced stress tolerance.

The disciplines of evolutionary biology and plant and animal breeding have been intertwined throughout their development,with responses to artificial selection yielding insights into the action of natural selection and evolutionary biology providing statistical and conceptual guidance for modern *** we offer an evolutionary perspective on a grand challenge of the 21st century:feeding humanity in the face of climate *** first highlight promising strategies currently under way to adapt crops to current and future climate *** include methods to match crop varieties with current and predicted environments and to optimize breeding goals,management practices,and crop microbiomes to enhance yield and sustainable *** also describe the promise of crop wild relatives and recent technological innovations such as speed breeding,genomic selection,and genome editing for improving environmental resilience of existing crop varieties or for developing new ***,we discuss how methods and theory from evolutionary biology can enhance these existing strategies and suggest novel *** focus initially on methods for reconstructing the evolutionary history of crops and their pests and symbionts,because such historical information provides an overall framework for crop-improvement *** then describe how evolutionary approaches can be used to detect and mitigate the accumulation of deleterious mutations in crop genomes,identify alleles and mutations that underlie adaptation(and maladaptation)to agricultural environments,mitigate evolutionary trade-offs,and improve critical *** feedback between the evolution and crop biology communities will ensure optimal design of strategies for adapting crops to climate change.

Objective:Despite the known benefits of integrated primary care and behavioral health services,integrated behavioral health services have not been readily used in medical clinics in interior *** minimal resources,we recently developed an integrated primary care-behavioral health program in a medical clinic in interior Alaska to meet clinic and community *** objective of this study was to explore initial program outcomes and determine the feasibility of program development and ***:We initially conducted a needs assessment for integrating behavioral health services into primary *** development was informed by specific clinic *** program implementation,initial program outcomes were tracked with use of data from the electronic health record and patient and provider use and satisfaction *** level of integration of primary care and behavioral health services was evaluated with the Practice Integration ***:A total of 188 patients were seen by behavioral health consultants during the initial pilot phase,including 44.0%referred for mental health symptoms,33.1%referred for physical health issues,and 22.3%referred for both mental and physical health *** initial program outcomes indicate modest clinical improvement(measured by the nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire)as well as patient and provider satisfaction with the model,and a moderate level of practice ***:On the basis of the initial findings,it appears that our integrated primary care-behavioral health program has the potential to serve an important role in addressing the behavioral health needs of the local *** implementation procedure and initial program outcomes suggest that such models are feasible in rural and small-scale settings with minimal overhead costs.

BACKGROUND New-onset prediabetes/diabetes after acute pancreatitis(NODAP)is the most common sequela of pancreatitis,and it differs from type 2 prediabetes/diabetes mellitus(T2DM).AIM To study the associations between circulating levels of pancreatic amylase,pancreatic lipase,chymotrypsin and fat phenotypes in NODAP,T2DM,and *** Individuals with NODAP(n=30),T2DM(n=30),and sex-matched healthy individuals(n=30)were *** fat phenotypes(intra-pancreatic fat,liver fat,skeletal muscle fat,visceral fat,and subcutaneous fat)were determined using the same magnetic resonance imaging protocol and scanner magnet strength for all ***-way analysis of covariance,linear regression analysis,and relative importance analysis were *** Intra-pancreatic fat deposition(IPFD)was higher in NODAP(9.4%±1.8%)and T2DM(9.8%±1.1%)compared with healthy controls(7.8%±1.9%)after adjusting for covariates(P=0.003).Similar findings were observed in regards to visceral fat volume(P=0.005),but not subcutaneous fat volume,liver fat,or skeletal muscle *** IPFD(β=-2.201,P=0.023)and visceral fat volume(β=-0.004,P=0.028)were significantly associated with circulating levels of pancreatic amylase in NODAP,but not in T2DM or healthy *** the five fat phenotypes,IPFD explained the highest amount of variance in pancreatic amylase concentration(R2=15.3%out of 41.2%).None of the phenotypes contributed meaningfully to the variance in pancreatic lipase or *** Both NODAP and T2DM are characterized by increased IPFD and visceral fat ***,only NODAP is characterized by significant inverse associations between the two fat phenotypes and pancreatic amylase.

The rapid phase-in of electric vehicles(EV)will cause unprecedented issues with managing the supply of electricity and charging *** is in the interest of utility providers and everyday consumers to be able to plan for peak charging times,and related *** past work has been done for localized,short-term forecasting,it has not included longer term forecasting,or considered the relationships between multiple ***,past work has also not offered a framework for dataset construction and evaluated different dataset *** propose a methodology to forecast demand at public EV charging stations,and use it to explore the potential of data-driven models to predict demand up to one week in *** strategy includes selecting parameters for formatting a dataset given a list of charging events,a way to consider flexible prediction horizons,and deployment of deep and supervised learning-based *** the best of our knowledge,ours is the first study to propose machine learning to forecast medium-term public EV charging demand,to exploit weather and other features at public charging stations,and to forecast demand at multiple stations and the entire *** validated our approach using data from eleven stations over three years from Scotland,*** method outperforms the benchmark time series method,and predicts network demand with a symmetric mean absolute percentage error(SMAPE)of 5.9%and a mean absolute error(MAE)of 124.7 kWh,or less than twelve percent of average daily demand.

Imaging of both benign and malignant anorectal diseases has traditionally posed a challenge to clinicians, and as a result history and physical exam have been relied on heavily. CT scanning and endorectal ultrasound have become popular in assessment of anatomy and staging of tumors, but have limitations. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has the capability to fill in the gaps left open by more conventional imaging modalities and continues to be promising as the definitive imaging technique in the pelvis, especially with advancement of emerging technologies in this field. A comprehensive review of this topic has been undertaken. Anorectal disease is divided into three broad categories: cancer, fistula/abscess, and pelvic floor disorders. A review of the literature is performed to evaluate the use of MRI and other imaging modalities in these three areas. Preoperative imaging is useful in the evaluation of all three areas of anorectal disease. MRI is an effective tool in delineating anatomy and, when correlating with the specific clinical scenario, is an effective adjunct in clinical decision-making in order to optimize outcome. MRI continues to be a promising and novel approach to imaging various afflictions of the anorectum and the pelvic floor. Its role is more well-established in some areas than in others, and there are still signif icant limitations. As technology advances, MRI will shed more light on a complex anatomical area.

We report the successful use of RADPLAT to treat a patient with an unresectable T4N0 sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma. This patient received 4 cycles of weekly intra-arterial cisplatin together with thiosulfate infusion with concurrent radiation therapy. Radiation therapy was given in 28 daily fractions to 54 Gy using intensity-modulated radiation therapy followed by a hypofractionated stereotactic boost of 3 fractions to 13 Gy to a total dose of 67 Gy in 31 fractions to the nasal sinus and bilateral neck. Intra-arterial cisplatin was administered using a bilateral approach due to the midline site of this tumor. Within days of the first intra-arterial cisplatin, there was an obvious decrease in tumor size. She has been followed with magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography, and remains disease-free 47 mo post-treatment. Centers with expertise in intra-arterial chemotherapy could consider the RADPLAT approach for patients with unresectable sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma.

The GSSP marking the base of the Cambrian System was ratified by the lUGS in 1992. Ratification of the GSSP point at the base of the Trichophycus pedum Ichnozone in the Fortune Head section, eastern Newfoundland, Canada, automatically defined the conterminant base of the lowermost series and stage of the Cambrian although names for those subdivisions were not proposed at the time of the decision. In 2007, the lUGS ratified the names Terreneuvian Series and Fortunian Stage for these previously unnamed chronostratigraphic subdivisions. The Terreneuvian Series replaces the provisional name ＂Series 1,＂ and the Fortunian Stage replaces the provisional name ＂Stage 1,＂ of the Cambrian System.
