Rapid and efficient characterization of cervical collagen orientation using linearly polarized colposcopic images

Collagen provides tissue strength and structural *** fication of the orientated dispersion of collagen fibers is an important factor when studying the mechanical properties of the *** this study,for the first time,a new method for rapid characterization of the collagen fiber orientations of the cervix using linearly polarized light colposcopy is presented.A total of 24 colposcopic images were captured using a cross-polarized imaging system with white leD light *** the preprocessing stage,the Red channel of the RGB image was chosen,which contains no information of the blood vessels because of the low-absorption of blood cells in the red ***,which is an ImageJ plug-in,was used to estimate the local orientation of the collagen *** result shows that in the nonpregnant cervix,the middle zone(Zone 2)has circumferentially aligned collagen fibers while the inner zone(Zone 1)has randomly *** collagen fiber dispersion in Zone 2 is much smaller than that in Zone 1 at all four quadrants region(anterior,posterior,left,and right quadrant).This new analysis technique could potentially combine with diagnostic tools to provide a quantitative platform of collagen fibers in the clinic.

User profiles representing users’preferences and interests play an important role in many applications of personalized *** the rapid growth of social platforms,there is a critical need for efficient solutions to learn user profiles from the information they shared on social platforms so as to improve the quality of recommendation *** problem of user profile learning is significantly challenging due to difficulty in handling data from multiple sources,in different formats and often associated with *** this paper,we introduce an integrated approach that combines advanced Machine learning techniques with evidential reasoning based on Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence for user profiling and *** developed methods for user profile learning and multi-criteria collaborative filtering are demonstrated with experimental results and analysis that show the effectiveness and practicality of the integrated approach.A proposal for extending multi-criteria recommendation systems by incorporating user profiles learned from different sources of data into the recommendation process so as to provide better recommendation capabilities is also highlighted.

Antibiotic usage in surgical sperm retrievals among IVF centers

Surgical sperm retrieval(SSR)is currently one of the most common procedures in in vitro fertilization(IVF).However,a gap between the guidelines and routine clinical practice regarding antibiotic use in sSR,which might lead to antibiotic resistance,is a challenging problem worldwide.A cross-sectional survey was conducted from May 1,2021,to July 15,2021,to investigate antibiotic usage by medical professionals when performing SSR in IVF centers in *** confidential questionnaire comprised 12 items,including characteristics of the study population,awareness of antimicrobial resistance,attitude toward prescribing antibiotics,and current practice of prescribing antibiotics when performing *** were completed by 30 of 45 registered IVF centers(66.7%).Among 67 physicians working at those centers,the age and work-experience years(mean±standard deviation[s.d.])were 38.6±6.6 years and 11.2±7.0 years,*** 60%of them held a degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology,and over four-fifths were *** respondents"often/very often/always"raised awareness of antimicrobial resistance to their patients(83.3%),but only half of them"often/occasionally"prescribed antibiotics to patients with SSR in cases where the prescription would be *** one-tenth of respondents followed the recommendation from the American Urological Association using"prophylaxis only"for SSR *** more invasive SSR,physicians tended to prescribe more complicated and sometimes inappropriate *** conclusion,antibiotic usage in SSR was not always appropriate among IVF *** studies may define specific recommendations for regimens,intervention strategies,and programs to promote appropriate antibiotic use for SSR patients among IVF specialists.

Background:Strongyloidiasis,a neglected disease caused by intestinal nematodes of the genus,is endemic to tropical and subtropical areas such as *** methods only identify the genus,while DNA-molecular techniques are susceptible in Strongyloides *** study aims to determine the prevalence of dominant Strongyloides species among the population in duc Hoa district,Long An,***:A cross-sectional study used 1190 stool specimens collected from July 2017 to November *** samples were transported within 2 h,stored at 2-8℃,and processed within 48 h for microscopy smear and culture at the Laboratory of Medical Parasitology,Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine(PNT).Then all positive samples with the above 2 methods were verified by real-time PCR ***-time PCR amplification was conducted at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology,***:Direct microscopy and modified Harada-Mori culture detected Strongyloides *** in 79/1190 sam-ples(6.6%).About 94.2%of the DNA samples were Strongyloides stercoralis,2.9%were co-infections with Strongy-loides ratti and ***,and 2.9%were patients with *** identity of 12/14 sequences was confirmed as *** with a high level of similarity(91.3%-100%)and over 98%for ***:DNA-molecular techniques and sequence analysis are highly suitable for identifying Strongyloides species isolated from stool *** is remarkable evidence of the presence of zoonosis *** disease in human,not just the known *** is likely to result in a certain proportion of people being infected by this animal-borne infectious pathogen.

Changes of the blood vessels and collagen are associated with the development of abnormal cervical ***,optical coberence tomography and Mueller polarization images were 1used to provide information regarding the presence of collagen fibers in the cervical ***,most of these methods need a lot of time for image recording and are *** addition,the general survey on the absorption and distribution characteristics of collagen and blood in the cervical is still *** this study,we developed a colposcopy combining cross-polarized inage and image procssing algorithm with an fficient analytical model to map the distribution of blood and collagen in the *** this system's proof of concept,we captured and processed the case of cervical ectopy and Nabothian *** results show that the distribution of blood and collagen maps matched with anatomical and physiological when compared with Lugol's iodline *** technology has some advantages,such as low cost,real time,and can replace the 11se of acetic acid or Lugol's iodine in the future.

The human visual sensitivity to the flickering light has been under investigation for *** finding of research in this area can contribute to the understanding of human visual system mechanism and visual disorders,and establishing diagnosis and treatment of *** aim of this study is to investigate the ffects of the flickering light to the visual cortex by monitoring the hemodynamic responses of the brain with the functional near infrared spectrosoopy(ENIRS)*** the acquired fNIRS signals are afected by physiological factors and measurement artifacts,constrained independent component analysis(eICA)was applied to extract the actual fNIRS responses from the obtained *** experimental results revealed significant changes(plecting the contrast of hemodynamic concentration between rest and task,became *** indicated the improvement of the NIRS signals when the noise was *** subsequent studies,statistical analysis was used to infer the correlation between the NIRS signals and the visual *** found that there was a slight decrease of the oxygenated hemoglobin con-centration(about 5.69%)over four frequencies when the modulation ***,the variations of oxy and deoxy-hemoglobin were not statistically significant.

Tail dependence in emerging ASEAN-6 equity markets: empirical evidence from quantitative approaches

This study contributes a rich set of quantitative methodologies including a nonparametric approach(Chi-plots and K-plots)as well as copulas(traditional and timevarying with Student’s t-copulas)to the existing literature in terms of determining the dependence structure in ASEAN stock *** on the emerging ASEAN equity returns of six countries from January 2001 to December 2017,we found that Student’s t-copulas under time-varying approach is the most appropriate approach to explain these *** all research return pairs,the dependence between Vietnam and other ASEAN equity indices has the lowest ***,all couples show left-and right-tail dependence by each pair for pre-and postfinancial ***,diversification across these pairs of equity markets from ASEAN is still adequate for international investors,though it might trigger contagion risks.

Effects of NaOH Concentrations on Properties of the Thermal Power Plant Ashes-Bricks by Alkaline Activation

The use of the thermal power plant ashes including fly ash(FA) and bottom ash(BA) for producing unfired building bricks(UBB) using sodium hydroxide(NaOH) solution as an alkaline activator was investigated. A low applied forming pressure of 0.5 MPa and various NaOH concentrations of 5, 8, 10, and 12 M were used for the preparation of brick samples with different solution-to-binder(S/B) ratios of 0.35 and 0.40. The bricks were subjected to various test programs with reflecting the effect of both NaOH concentrations and S/B ratios on the brick’s properties. The compressive strength, unit weight, ultrasonic pulse velocity, and thermal conductivity of bricks increased with increasing NaOH concentration, whereas the contrary trend was found with increasing S/B ratio. Also, the water absorption of bricks was observed to reduce with increasing NaOH concentration and decreasing S/B ratio. As the results, the combined utilization of both low forming pressure and coal power plant ashes can produce the UBBs with low unit weight, low heat conductivity, and acceptable strength and water absorption rate as stipulated by TCVN 6477-2016. Furthermore, the outcomes of chemical analysis and microstructure observation also demonstrate that a high concentration of the Na OH promoted the geopolymerization process. Notably, the use of NaOH solution of either 10 M or above is recommended for the production of UBBs, which are classified as grade M5.0 or higher.

To the Editor:Recent randomized controlled trials,as well as high-quality systematic reviews and meta-analyses,strongly support the use of corticosteroids in patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)who require oxygen support.[1]The use of pulse cor-ticosteroid therapy has been reported in case series and studies,showing significant improvement in patients and a reduction in mortality rate.[2]In this letter,we report the mortality rate among patients with severe COVID-19 receiving pulse corticos-teroids with methylprednisolone(500 mg/day)for≥3 days and≥24 h before intubation(median duration of therapy:3 days)compared with standard of care.
